The main character is an Argentinean writer living in Paris with his mistress, La Maga, surrounded by an eclectic group of bohemian friends who go by name, "The Club." This must be their clubhouse! Located nestled between residential homes on the outer edge of Colonia Americana, the front of the building is unassuming, aside from the bold signage spelling out the name: Rayuela in big red letters. As you enter the space, you feel the allure and charm of the place. Your eyes are directed past the intimate tables in the front, and toward the long stretched bar. The warm lighting and french doors in the back seduce you to venture outside to a small patio. The place has old world charm, those that you would expect to find in Latin America or Europe. The colonial buildings that surround the neighborhood and decor transplant you into another era. Like the wine they curate, their are roots grounded in this place. I love that they offer wines from Valle De Guadalupe and other regions of Mexico, despite being a Spanish restaurant. The tapas were bursting with flavor. The Artichoke dish was my favorite, blending sweet and savory flavors. But you'd have it easy selecting something good at this place, every dish we had was memorable.

Our drinks were beautifully prepared and absolutely top notch. Our food was beautifully prepared, and had amazing flavor and presentation. I would have loved to have given 5 Stars, but unfortunately we waited for more than an hour for our entrees, and sadly, when the entrees were finally served, all of our three were cold. It seemed that they had been sitting out, waiting to be served for quite some time. It was disappointing to have waited so long, and then have everything arrive cold. After finishing our entrees, we ordered the chocolate cake for dessert. 25 minutes later, we asked if we could just have our bill to pay, and take our dessert "to go." We were just too tired to keep waiting any longer. What would have been a fabulous, 5 Star dining experience, was diminished by slow service, and cold entrees. I'm sure that this is not the norm, and I would still recommend trying this fabulous restaurant.

Service is what leads to the 1 star, some of the worst service I have experienced. Staff makes you feel like you are an inconvenience from start to end and rush you by all just standing around trying to take plates while you are still eating and then awkwardly just stand and stare until you leave. It was a really strange experience. I would have rather just not been seated to begin with if staff did not want to wait on new customers.
