First step into the bathroom, there was a plastic champagne glass on the floor. Towels clean but old and threadbare. Tub and sink were clean. Area rugs and floors were filthy, looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in ages. Dust everywhere, cobwebs in corners and closets. Sheets appeared to be dirty, and very old at least. The caretaker was nice, but at no time did we hear or see him cleaning. The bathroom in the main entry area was filthy--sink almost brown it was so dirty, mirror had old water/splash marks all over it, nothing was clean. Breakfast was included but we skipped it. Even the automatic coffee maker was so dirty, it had layers of dried coffee all over it. The whole dining area was dirty--side table, dining tables had dirty table cloths over them. No way we were eating there. Do not recommend.

The staff are fabulous - taking on whatever role is appropriate for our needs from taking reservations, welcoming guests, to pouring that lovely third cup of coffee at breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, you might want to start exercising your pinky finger now so as to get it pointed properly straight out from the coffee cup handle - if you want to fully indulge in the environment. China, table cloths, attentive waitresses - all add up to one of the most special B&B experiences anywhere. It is not stuffy. In fact it is very relaxed - it is just that one can enjoy a good stuffy moment or two if one wishes to stare down your nose at the peasantry walking by the window:-) All part of the fun this setting encourages. The rooms are OK in size - more typical of the period that the house was built. They just border on the feeling of old style cluttered with lovely furniture such as a four-poster bed. The bed was fantastic! The in room fireplace and Jacuzzi tub will have to be enjoyed more fully this coming winter. What else to mention - oh yes - the grounds are beautiful with lawn chairs strategically placed for a guest and a book midst the shrubbery and flowers. Al is a remarkable man, one of those rare individuals who has many talents and he uses them in the management and running of this inn. He has made furniture that you will see in it and he has designed and built much of the inn itself. He is a chef and cooks the breakfasts for the guests. He is a wealth of information to help you enjoy the area. We highly recommend staying at the Olde Lantern Inn. The area where the inn is located is great to explore too. Wolfville nearby is home to a university so there is a very youthful and energetic feeling about the area. Grand Pre is of historic value being the historic site connected with the Acadian saga. We hiked to Cape Split on our last trip here, which is a 5 mile trip to a point overlooking the ocean where you can hear the tide as it roars in. Be prepared for the 5 mile return trip though and bring plenty of drinking water with you. Olde Lantern Inn sits next door to a vineyard and a great restaurant also so you will be treated very well by Al and those who work together to make your stay a delight.

It comes with 3 cheeses and there are only 3 options so if you don't like blue cheese, let them know when you order so they can give you more of one of the other two. The thing we found odd was the tacky Breton crackers. It would have been nice to have some kind of artisan crackers instead and perhaps some sort of a jam, jelly or spread. We found it to be a little tacky for $16. The service was a little bit in the middle and we waited around a while to even get a menu. Once the server recognized we weren't helped yet, she apologized and picked up from there which made us not want to get up and leave like originally planned. Overall, I think this place is worth a shot but perhaps don't expect to be wowed and maybe grab a meal before you show up. I can see this being a great place to do a flight just to try what they've got or just have a glass of wine on the patio that's being extended (they were working on it while we were there). We nearly didn't make it because we were in Kentville, but due to lack of accommodations (last minute, fully booked), I gave them a shout at 8pm and they had one room available. We drove over, and boy, am I ever glad we did! Let me just say - what an absolutely beautiful house. Gorgeous. A dream. One of the owners (Rick, I think) was there, he had waited for us to arrive since it was late. He didn't act rushed at all, gave us a tour & breakfast order to fill out - he was thorough and friendly. I love the breakfast idea - order what you want at what time & leave it on a desk in the front hall (the same desk that had cookies waiting for guests on it the next morning!) Our room (The Windsor Room) was actually the one I was the least interested in when I looked at pics online, but it proved my judgment wrong. Painted Yellow (with original hand painted & plasted stucco work), with hardwood floors, a big window with wooden shutters, and the most comfortable, plush bed I've ever slept on in my life; I fell in love immediately! The bathroom is built into what used to be a closet and it's very nice - heated, with a shower and natural bath & products. There were clean, plush white robes waiting for us as well. For breakfast, I assumed that it was one common room, but they put us in a private nook, in a separate dining room - so we got to enjoy our (absolutely delicious) breakfast overlooking the yard. It was the perfect way to start the morning. Being so accommodating, the owners encourage guests to hang out throughout the house, even after check-out time. There are games set up upstairs, a lovely sunroom with books, etc. We were also able to check out the other rooms once everyone had abandoned them. They were all fabulous! I think the Queen Victoria Suite is my favourite. One wacky little side note; I'm positive that this place is haunted. Not only because it is so old, but because, after I got home, I was looking at the photos of the Inn and there are very interesting coloured orbs in many of the photos - especially concentrated at the front of the house & outside. When you zoom in, they are all a strange shape & in motion. But, rest assured, I didn't feel any spooks or malicious intent. Quite the contrary, we felt relaxed, comfortable, and had wonderful sleeps! I highly recommend The Clockmaker's Inn, without hesitation. Honestly, one night was not nearly enough to take in this beautiful bed & breakfast that is ultra relaxing. Four thumbs (me & the mister's) way up!

The corner suite was about 600 square feet on the top floor with high vaulted ceilings, king bed, double jet tub, double shower, double vanities, wide screen TV, DVD, Wifi, love seat and kitchenette. The room was very quiet, it didn't share walls with any other rooms and we only heard our neighbors once in the hall. The owner meets you on arrival to show you around and you fill out a slip for your breakfast in the morning. Breakfast was awesome! The two dining rooms seat about ten and everything was from scratch plus hot coffee, tea, cereals and fruit. We'll be back! Draw backs: The website needs more photos to help you choose the right room and I tried to use the complimentary long distance on the guest phone but I got an error message. I suppose I could have gone next door to the owners' residence for help but I got over it.
