I have been working and living in Banff for a year and a half. This is the place I come to just…read morechill and get warm on my shopping trips downtown. I have library cards from both Calgary and Banff. I must say that althrough the collection is small, interlibrary loans make getting certain books faster compared to getting the same books in Calgary. I looked up the same title in both libraries and Calgary has 60 holds for half as many copies. Banff and its system of small town libraries have 14 copies available to borrow. The only downside is that all holds are interlibrary loans, as there is only one location in Banff and therefore loans take longer to arrive. My only suggestion would to open an hour earlier , i.e 9 am instead of 10am. This way I have ample time to pick up holds and head up back to work . My schedule doesn't allow me to visit the library at all on the days that I work. Their hours are pretty much my hours. On my days off I go back to Calgary and have to catch 10:30am bus so I just have enough time to pick up a hold before I head to the bus station. But that's not on the library, that's on the crappy bus schedule we have in the winter. In the summer I would have enough time to go pick up a hold before heading back to work. It sucks that on Saturday they open even later at 11am so I can't even go pick up a book because my bus leaves before that. Aside from hours I think this library is pretty good.

None-the-less, there are many reasons I personally love this place and the first would be because it's large. The third level I found quite usual these past few years of my university life because it's a good place to have a group meeting and speak at a little more than a whisper without feeling guilty about it. The size also means they have an excellent selection of everything you would possibly want (fiction, non-fiction, crafts, DVD's, music, foreign books, etc.). There are plenty of seating areas, a number of computers, and the place has this relaxed feel to it. The location (as long as you're in the south) is also quite nice since it's close to Southcentre, in case you're tempted to do a little shopping, perhaps grab some Starbucks or food, etc. It's also built like a pyramid, and what is cooler than a pyramid library? Nothing.

The library is open from morning till night, and I was surprised by how many people frequent here throughout the day. First things first: Could this library be ANY easier to get to?!?!? It's situated right across (literally a 10 second walk across the street) from the Lion's Park C-Train stop. The library itself looks quite small, until you step foot inside. It's a lot bigger than I expected it to be - looks really can be deceiving! They've got 10 complimentary computers with Internet access available to everyone, immaculate washrooms right at the door, a calm, quiet crowd and a very friendly and efficient staff. I'm most definitely a fan of this branch. Easy to get to, cool vibe, and shopping right next door - I'm one happy camper!

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I go to the library for the books and this building is hardly a library. A mobile library would have more books, very disappointing based on all the high reviews I read prior to going today for the first time. There was modern looking seating and a big trolly of Chromebooks to rent, but not a single person I saw was even reading a book, they were all just on their phones!

I'm going to be in town for the summer, with a lot of research and reading to do, and I'm so…read morethankful for having found this facility to do it in! It's spacious and well-lit, with plenty of comfortable seating and good wifi. It also has a separate quiet study room (in case you find the noise made by people browsing books distracting?? I don't quite understand this). I can't vouch for the book selection here just yet, but I will say that the variety of magazines available is solid. The only slight complaint I have is that, on the two occasions I've been here so far, it has been a little on the cold side.

There are 4 stories with computers, meeting rooms, tables, coffee shop, art installations, children's area, etc. They definitely made it so there are plenty of resources available for whatever you may need. The only downfall I can think of is that the library has quite a bit of drugged up people in there as well as right outside and some of them causing a scene or clearly making others uncomfortable. I understand it's a public facility but it's still a negative aspect about the library.

If you don't have a printer that works at home you can print paper for I think it's five cents per page. They help you with the computer when you don't know what you're doing with complicated questions and best of all they are welcoming place for children, every time I'm there it seems like there is a class trip from the local kindergarten and it's lovely that they are introducing kids at a young age to addictive healthy habits like READING!!!!!!! While planning my trip to Alberta, CA I was trying to find decently priced accommodation away from…read morethe overpriced, touristy confines of Banff. Now before anyone comes at me, I'm not dissing Banff. Banff is great and has lovely scenery with a robust nightlife. I enjoy that on occasion but it's just not my vibe, especially 24/7. I prefer my peace and traveling low key while still getting that excitement in spurts. Queue in the town of Canmore! Canmore is like the underrated, shy sibling of their neighbor to the north (Banff). It's still going to be somewhat pricey but not exorbitantly out of range for most. Canmore has a nice number of restaurants, shops and bars and you won't encounter the foot traffic Banff tends to get. Canmore also has a lot of walking trails and points of interest like the Engine Bridge, Big Head sculpture, Policeman's creek and Main Street. If you're biking I highly recommend the Legacy Trail that connects the town of Canmore to Banff. If you're driving, Three Sister's viewpoint is great stopover too. There are a few food spots I suggest if you're heading into town. My favorites were the following: Bridgette Bar - slightly upscale but good food and drink Tavern 1883 - Amazing patio with great views of the mountain range as a backdrop. Burgers are decent, poutine is better. Lovely Ice Cream and Treats - Really good creamy, made in house fresh batch ice cream. The Rose and Crown - Good bar atmosphere. Drinks are made well. Summer seems to go on for longer out here. The one thing I noticed is that the sun sets way later than what we are used to in the lower 48. I went in May and sunset didn't happen until 10pm. It was the weirdest thing ever and it definitely threw my sleep off for weeks afterward. Despite the prolonged sunshine the benefits are having the opportunity to take advantage of a full day out. Canmore is generally a safe town to walk through day or night. I would suggest if you plan to do the trails, bring bear spray. You never know if you're going to need it. Also, stay hydrated. I had stayed for nearly a week and picked up a case of water at the nearby Safeway which covered me through the entire trip. Enjoy your time in Canmore if you're able to and safe travels!

There's a grocery store in the form of Safeway in the area, which is great. There is also a fairly low key / sad town center area which pales in comparison to Banff; 10% of the visitors and not much to do. Canmore isn't cheap either; for a week long Air BnB, the daily costs were still $300-400 CAD for something fairly basic. There's also limited nature options in the area that you can explore for "free", most of the hikes require an additional paid pass for visitors outside of the town. The parking situation for any hikes in the immediate Canmore area requires another pass in addition to the Canada National Parks pass; this is a pain for non-locals. We pretty much drove to Banff daily for activities and just came back to Canmore to sleep.

They have a rather impressive collection of audio books as well as DVDs, CDs and movies. Plus there are lots of windows so the sunlight streams in from all angles. Plus once you're done working/reading/researching/signing out books, you can head over to the mall to shop, or grab a bite to eat. And if you're feeling up to a 25 minute walk, you can head over to Dalhousie Station and take the train to any part of town! Great location, great selection, great atmosphere.

Time will tell once the CPL Crowfoot renovations are complete, along with the new CPL Rocky Ridge location opening up in January 2018. PS. All CPL locations have wifi; however. most have issues as their routers are only designated to accommodate 12 people at a time, or so I was told. CPLs are very popular; hence, often CPL wifi networks are either hard to get onto or drop you after a certain amount of time. Hopefully, wifi will be upgraded accordingly very soon to better accommodate the popularity of CPLs. PPS. Most times the bathrooms are dirty/wet for heavy use, and lack of paper towels. The hand dryers are very hard to use for most, since you need to place your hands up into the dryer for it to work properly.
