Really enjoyed my first time coming here! After riding a coach bus for 4 hours it was a welcomed place of comfort to relax and stretch out before preparing for the race! The day lodge is a fairly roomy building, lots of seating with bathrooms in one section and shower/change rooms on the other side of the building. The Fresh Trax Cafe was also a welcomed snack/coffee stop for those that needed a little extra boost before & after the race (ps - their yam fries are deliciously crunchy and so tasty!). There's a huge field out back with several different trailheads to choose your own adventure from I was there specifically for a 5 Peaks trail race, to which the trails were awesome! (Regardless of the amount of snow present or not lol). To my surprise there was also 2 sets of paved trails off to one side, which were being used as training laps for cross country skiers (which is pretty handy - not having to practice around sidewalks or traffic!). If you want to take a quick peek at the building and amenities, see here: https://www.albertaparks.ca/media/6492898/canmore-nordic-centre-pp-facilities-guide.pdf ‍

This was just a 5 min drive away from the Worldmark Resort in Canmore so it was a close drive for us, but I would have been fine driving 30 min from Banff just to come here - it was one of the highlights of our week-long Canada trip. There are over 100 km of trails here: in the winter, you can cross-country ski, but as I was here in the summer you can use the trails for mountain biking and skiing. I'd stay in Canmore over Banff if I came here again just to be able to come here. It's amazing if you like to bike/run. You can rent mountain bikes (~$36 for 2 hours, ~$55 for the full day) and they are nice bikes in good condition. Helmets are included but no pads (you don't really need it on the trails here since they are not steep downhill descents). This was my first time mountain biking on trails and it was the perfect kind of terrain for me - rolling hills, a good mix of paved paths, gravel, and dirt trails so that it wasn't boring, and beautiful tree and mountain views. We biked for 2 hours and could have biked even more if we had more time. There are so many different trails here of varying difficulty, we chose the easier ones because it was my first time but they definitely had harder, steeper trails. If you like trail running, biking or doing things outside, this will be like heaven. They also have roller skiing which looks super cool and we want to try it next time we come back. I would definitely stay in Canmore again next time I go to Banff just so I can come here every day.

Great cross country skiing trails and a nice, clean lodge. I particularly like the historical items displayed in the lodge and the location near the ski rental facility.

There are a slew of great props and a changing room. The class was made for everyone, with lots of clear instrution. There are classes many times of day and lots of instructors...easy to fine your fit. Students are encouraged to listen to and respect their bodies. I will return many times during my two weeks in town.

Lovely yoga studio in Canmore, located on the main street of the town (which also happens to be…read morecalled Main Street, ha!). It's a flight of stairs from street level, but the view from the studio is simply breathtaking. Different types of yoga are taught, and teachers all have their expertise. Even though one can get used to the sight of the snow-capped Rockies after a few weeks in the region, nobody can really stay cold to the mountain panorama that can be seen through a ceiling-high window. Make sure to come to a class that starts before sunset so you can fully enjoy the view! The studio is small and cozy, which makes the practice much more calming, and the hardwood floor adds a homely touch to the whole studio. If you're more of an outdoors person, teachers often offer outdoors classes directly on the mountains, especially in the summer. As for any yoga studio, drop-in class fees are $18, and there is no student discount. There is a monthly trial package if you're new to the studio, but since you won't be disappointed, the best deal is obviously the yearly subscription. Mat rentals are cheap ($1). Review of BHA Sadly…read moremy daughter attend the Banff Hockey Acadmey for the 20019/2020 season in hopes of being coached by Petra Pravlikova. Petra has a lot to offer with being an Slovakian Women's Team member. Yet the owner seemed to step in and run the practices, the games and the dressing room. The cost of the program was $32,000.00 it was to cover practice ice, busing, billeting, lunch/dinner, and exhibition games. We watched as the season got closer to an end and so did the ice, from five days a week to two, to one to nothing. The first two showcases we saw the team take a bus, then that was replaced with two 15 passenger vans, the food was ok but some feedback was it as not fully cooked, was gross, and sometimes was not even edible. The Billet home was awesome this family opened their home to six female players and in my option did a great job of keeping them in line and even offering to help the players out with schooling and appointments. Petra was able to keep the core group of girls in Banff over the seven months even trying to keep my daughter in the program even after the owner called her a quitter. I really hope Petra will be able to turn this Acadmey around should she stay in Banff. Petra has the skills and knowledge to do so but needs the owner to step back. With her efforts the BHA would be have been a better place for all the girls on the team, as most lost respect for the owner Billy. The owner Billy would yell at the players, call them names, tell them they suck, tell them they can't even play hockey, lied to many of the parents and players about a number of things that were promised (bussing being used for all showcases exhibition games against numerous teams across Western Canada the ability to help the player grow both physically and mentally as well as develop on the ice all lies) in fact most of the players took a step back with development The only thing that was true was this would be a "losing year" as its was re build year and yet half the players did not want to be their. Sadly I'm not shocked with that type of attitude from an owner who would want to play or stay their. It's sad as this program could be great and has had a number of really great coaches try and turn it around but it seams the owner (Billy) only wants to find parents willing to pay not to develop the players. Very disappointed in the experience, would suggest you look into the program and ask for real references of current players in the 2019-2020 program. This is not just my opinion a few parents have voiced their concerns to Hockey Alberta and the CSSHL as Banff Hockey Acadmey is making a bad name for its self. It should be noted, Banff Hockey Academy's owner Billy was one of the pioneers behind the building of the CSSHL back in the day the program was one of the best in the west and did attract players from all over Canada or the US and overseas. Not really sure where it went wrong, even talking to past players, coaches and owners it's gone down hill and really needs a new owner to step in and fix it ASAP and bring back what the CSSHL was build for, development of the elite athletes along side of schooling. I wish the BHA all the best and hope this will turn around for them in the future.

Hey, When I went to…read morethe Rec Centre in Canmore, I really enjoyed it. They have a gym, the Cascade Fitness Room in the Rec Centre, that doesn't seem very big, but is a deceivingly good gym. It's got a family atmosphere, so it's nice because there are families there and not people on 'roids'. When I went there, I'd often joke with the people that work there at the front desk, They have a good sense of humour and are friendly. One of the good things about the gym was that it was close to my place. Even when my car was 'dead', it wasn't a big deal 'cause I could walk there pretty easily. It didn't hurt either that the Starbucks was between my place and the gym. :) The gym has quite a few things actually. I use to go through some different excercises when I went. They have really nice free weights that don't hurt your hands, some good stationary bikes and treadmills, an elliptical machine and a stairclimber too. They also have a place for bench press excercises. On top of that, they have a 'squat rack', which is a place to do free weight squats, pull ups, chin ups and even T Bar rows. The back extension equipment is nice, and is designed in such a way that people can also use it to do dips if they want to. Then, they have a mutistation part of the gym, where multiple excercises are basically put into one machine to save space. When I first saw the multistation, I didn't think it was all that great...but you know what...I was wrong. That multistation is AWESOME. They have a leg extension part of the machine that is really nice. One of the features of it is that there are multiple 5 pound weights that you can use between the 15 pound increments. So basically, people can increase the weight by 5 pounds instead of 15 on all the excercises on that multistation machine, which is awesome. The machine also features a really nice standing leg curl section, a lat pull down section, and a low cable section for tricep extensions and other excercises. One of the parts of that multistation that I love is the shoulder press/bench press section. It's nice because you're not 'locked' into the machine if you're doing shoulder press or bench press excercises. The shoulder press is fantastic. The bench press is really nice because it compliments a free weight bench press in that you can probably add more weight to the machine and give your muscles 'a different look' so that there is not as much muscle memory to the same excercise. There are also some nice mats to just relax and stretch. One of the nice things about this gym is that it is usually not too busy, and most of the people there seem pretty laid back, which is really important in a gym. They have a great view of the moutains there, so it has a nice feeling to it. The membership rate is unbelievable for a gym that has so much. 5 stars all the way.
