Not sure what everyone is looking for in a barber shop, but I had to pop in here for a haircut when I realized I'd be on vacation here for another six days and didn't like how my previous cut was growing in. So I'll tell you all I know, as there seemed to be a lack of barber shops around the area, most places labeling themselves as "salons" and "spas" on Yelp.
I called and asked if they took walk ins and the answer was yes. Walked in at around 11:50am and was told he couldn't take me until 12:45pm, which was fine. There's a board to write your name in appointment slots. There's plenty to do and look at around the area, so killing time was no big deal. If you're used to the honor system where you have to stay and maintain your place in the queue, it's nice that there's a board.
It's one guy (or was when I went), so the prospect of a walk in seems like you'd be waiting for a bit. I got back at 12:40pm and he took me right then. I explained that I'm receding up front and usually do a 2 on sides and back, cut top short with scissors and proportionally trim the front flip. He mostly focused on buzzer work, blending middle area using a comb and the buzzer and wet the top and trimmed it. Had to call out a few random stray hairs that were missed on top and he seemed very focused on his upcoming lunch break (appointment board is off limits from 1-2pm for appointments). The name of his game seemed to be speed, which is probably the biproduct of being the only barber there and being hungry.
Cleaned up the back neck area with a buzzer (no razor, if that's what you're accustomed to or looking for). Also wet my hair before announcing he was finished, but it was below freezing so asked for him to blow dry it which he did. Showed me the back with a mirror to ensure it was cleaned up.
Total cost was $24 - I gave him $30 and he said thanks have a good day. Wasn't about to tip $6 but that's alright.
When I left I had hair all over my boots, so a blow dry of the shoes / legs would probably be a welcome addition. read more
