I'm afraid to say that Canine Comprehensive is something of a scam. We consulted Kalif for our rescue shepherd mix. Our pup had begun displaying excessive guarding behaviors, especially inside the home, beginning three months after we adopted him from a shelter. He would bark and growl at visitors. Kalif came to our home. After a very brief walk with our dog, he came inside and asked our dog to be crated. He then interviewed me about our dog's behaviors for about an hour. Just before he left, Kalif said he would "see" how our dog behaved if came close to him. Kalif approached our dog's crate in a threatening manner and low and behold, our dog barked and growled. Kalif told us the "only way" to improve our dog's behavior was through a two-month long board and train in which we could not see our dog. The board and train would cost around EVELEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. When I consulted our dog walker about his advice, she said this was ridiculous. She said dog was guarding us inside the home; removing him from the home and putting him with strangers after his already unstable life would only make things worse. So, instead of sending our dog to an insanely expensive board and train, we hired a different dog trainer, a lovely mild-mannered woman. The new trainer took time to get to new our dog. By the end of the first visit, the dog trainer was sitting on our couch, rubbing our dog's belly. As a German shepherd-pit bull mix with an unstable past, our pup may never be the friendliest toward visitors. When folks come over, we put him in another room. Now he's at the point where we can let him out as visitors leave to say hi to the guests, and he's usually ok. I'm 100% sure that if we'd send him to board and train, our dog would have only gotten worse. In short, Canine Comprehensive WANTS TO TAKE YOUR MONEY AND MAKE YOUR DOG WORSE. We could not be happier we chose to work with Canine Comprehensive for 7 weeks of Board + Train, plus follow up sessions. Our 3 year old Portuguese Water Dog is so much more relaxed; he now knows how to go for a walk in a heel and stay engaged with us when his triggers go by (at his worst these included: trucks, vans, any car bigger than a sedan, bikers, skaters, scooters, other dogs, the mailman- walks were super unpleasant, but not anymore!). He can follow new household rules like not jumping onto furniture, waiting to greet visitors, ignoring distractions, no longer barking at everything that moves -- and generally now knows how to chill. We didn't know what his behaviors were communicating - like resource guarding - and Tobey helped us see the source of these behaviors and how we could adjust our environment to help support him (crate placement, toy placement, etc). Tobey told us early on that the main goal was for us to be able to enjoy our dog more and we can safely say mission accomplished. Tobey and Kalif are the top of the top when it comes to dog training and behavior modification. Our dog is a border collie who was great 90% of the time, but became highly sensitive/anxious as he got a bit older. This resulted in him resource guarding rooms, couches, people etc. He had aggression towards toddlers around his "things" and tried to bite a toddler twice. He also was only obedient to commands when there were no distractions. But if he wanted something, there was no chance of him listening to our commands. When he came out of board and train, he had a whole new bag of commands. He was extremely sharp and obedient, had a much calmer demeanor, and was all around a more relaxed dog. We can tell he was treated extremely well with Tobey and the crew. Our dog now is much more relaxed in the house, has been very calm around our newborn and very obedient in times of high stress. Our experience was very educational and it helped us tremendously with becoming first time dog owners for our pitbull/staffy/mastiff that we adopted from a shelter. He was a very anxious dog because he had a traumatizing experience with owner abandonment, and he was living at the shelter from a very early age. His separation anxiety was so difficult that he would have panic attacks every time we left the house even if it was a short moment, to the point he would bark until he blew out his vocal cords, vomit, defecate everywhere, and struggle with eating and drinking due to his immense anxiety and fear of being alone. Our dog was also very stubborn with a high pain threshold and destructive power toward household items, and he was not food or toy oriented. We adopted our sweet 3-year-old pittie mix Baloo back in 2020 and soon after realized she needed some training. She is so strong and walking her at the beginning was so frustrating, not to mention hard on my body. She could easily pull me across the street and if she saw another dog or a squirrel all bets were off. She demonstrated some resource guarding, plays a bit too hard with other dogs, and while she never tried to actively run away, her recall was on her terms only. Tobey has experience working with staffies and had worked wonders with another friend's dog, so we chose them. And we chose right. Tobey is an incredible dog whisperer. We did 1:1 sessions with Tobey and now Baloo walks right by my side and is a pleasure to walk with. Tobey is the best! Our family made last minute travel plans for my boyfriend and I over the holidays -- so we had little time to find a cat sitter for our kitty. Tobey was referred to us by another cat sitter in Oakland and we are SO GLAD we followed up. We've had previous experience with a cat sitter in the Bay Area -- one of the top rated in SF -- and he is nowhere near as great as Tobey. Tobey was on time for our initial visit, and she came prepared with questions. She set up a Google doc with all our information so we could make edits before her visits (so helpful!). She has arrangments with another cat sitter in case something happens so our kitty is extra safe. I was a little worried she wouldn't like cats since she used to be primarily a dog sitter, but she is obviously an indiscriminate animal lover and connected with our cat immediately. During our trip, Tobey sent picture/video updates for every visit without fail. She even added a santa hat to our kitty's picture on Christmas! We had a last minute flight change, and she accommodated an extra visit without trouble. She is very professional and very friendly. She always responds to text/emails promptly. The last time we had a cat sitter, we came back to a chubbier, desperate for attention cat with fleas -- our cat never goes outside so she must have gotten them from the sitter. Tobey has been my dog walker and trainer for several months (I have 2 pitbulls) and I couldn't be happier with her service. She is very mindful about what your dogs needs in terms of other dogs being present. For example, my not-as-new dog had not been socialized but is not aggressive towards dogs. Tobey would take him out with her other clients and now he is socialized and has great dog friends. My new dog has some aggression issues which Tobey identified and we are addressing. That dog goes on walks alone or with my other dog only. This kind of attentiveness is what puts Tobey apart from other dog walking services. Because she specializes in aggressive dogs, she is much better equipped to help my dogs move forward with creating positive interactions with other dogs. She also texts me a photo of my dogs on each walk, which is really a bright spot during my day. I have also met and worked with Tobey's new assistant, who I found to also be reliable and professional. Tobey is also not stern/judgmental/elitest about dog training. She is really realistic about creating a plan that can be accomplished, and very understanding that life often gets in the way of dog training schedules/plans. She has been able to help me stay on track without being pushy and always considering how busy life can get. She has a holistic approach to dog training that has been very effective for me and my dogs. When I first started working with Tobey, I had 2 dogs I had to keep completely separate (separate walks, separate living areas, separate trips to go outside). The new one wasn't house or leash trained, had a negative history with other dogs, and had never lived inside a house. My other dog wasn't socialized but had come a long way from when I rehabilitated him myself 2 years ago. Now? Both dogs are best friends and are at home alone together right now (most likely sleeping on the couch, cuddling). House training has come a long way and pulling on the leash has been an non-issue for months. More than anything though, is that both dogs are happy and confident. Canine Comprehensive is the best dog walking service I have found and I have used a few. The walkers are very good with my slightly shy mature cattle dog. They are respectful of her needs and attentive to any and all of my concerns. Cattle dogs are good listeners but they can be stubborn and wary of new situations. Toby is a dog whisperer. When we rescued Waffles two years ago and got kicked out of puppy kindergarten we had no idea what we were in for with Waffles. I was so impressed with her that I scheduled a trial day for my dogs to spend the day with her. When I went to pick them up they were totally relaxed and had obviously enjoyed the large yard and being pampered by their new friend, Tobey. My dogs love her, and yes, she loves dogs! A week later we arranged to have her take care of both of my sweet boys for 4 days at my house. I got great updates via text, fantastic pictures of my boys having a whole lot of fun, and being treated like royalty--she even gave them a bath! When I returned, my dogs were so well taken care of, I'm not sure that they noticed I was gone--that's the best scenario I could ever have imaged! What can I say? Tobey really is the best! She goes above and beyond what is expected and, most importantly, our animals LOVE her. It's like having a vet tech care for your babies while you are away. Unfortunately, last summer, while we were away for my father's funeral, our beloved, outside feral cat took a turn for the worse. Tobey was able to administer IV fluids at our home to help keep him hydrated and comfortable. She communicated everything we needed to know to make our painful decision. Tobey stayed with our cat at the vet, comforting him as he was put to sleep. When we returned home, Toby had made a beautiful memento of our cat's name painted on a rock, as well as leaving us a heartfelt letter detailing the last moments of life with our dear cat. That is absolutely above and beyond my expectations for a pet sitter! In addition, Tobey taught our 14 year old dog some new tricks. She made a feeder for our dog out of a plastic bottle that made getting his kibble more challenging and interesting. She also provided vinegar soaks for his chronically, inflamed feet. I am so grateful I found Tobey and her team. Through individual training sessions and one three-week board and train, Canine Comprehensive has helped shape our almost 2-year-old lab into a well-mannered, sweet-natured dog. He's a big goof and he loves his daily pack walks with the team. Also, Tobey has spidey senses when it comes to dogs. After dog Jasper fell through our deck during construction -- just two feet from the ground -- he seemed okay and wasn't whimpering or showing any obvious signs of injury. But a week or so later, during a recent walk, Tobey noticed that Jasper had a sore back and had been suffering in silence. He went to the vet, got some doggie Advil and seems to be on the mend. I am so impressed with the training and overall pet care that I've received from Tobey. Four months ago, I adopted Moose, a 3 year old large yellow lab and realized pretty soon after that I would need some help in training him. I could not have been happier with the results that Moose and I attained in working with Tobey and her customized training package for us. He was initially very anxious and leash reactive and now he has settled in so well. My friends and family and even my vet (who was so impressed that in our last visit asked for the name and contact of my trainer) comment on how much better he is with his calmer energy. Tobey has such a special way with dogs, it was obvious right away that this is what she is meant to do. Just as important for me is that she is great with people. She is amazing in how she worked with me; providing feedback and education in a very positive and encouraging way. I really can't say enough about how happy I am with this training with Tobey. I have also used their pet sitting services twice and was really happy with this experience. Very professional with a meet and greet with the dog sitter Joanna, Tobey, Moose, and myself at my house to go over the routine before I left. Joanna took great care of Moose and I loved getting the daily pictures with updates and coming home to a cute card with a short overview of their time together. My pup just started working with Tobey and I am more than impressed with her services. I researched other dog walkers and Tobey is by far the most knowledgeable and passionate about dogs and her services. She came over for an initial visit and spent a lot of time with me and Munchkin. She is extremely responsive and organized as well which is a huge plus for me! Munchkin is like my baby and I am so relieved that I know she is in good hands when I am away. Tobey also takes amazing photos of my dog and checks in with photos since I requested it. Munchie and I haven't been clients of Tobey's for very long but I wanted to write a review because I am so impressed with her level of service so far and how much I already trust her. Tobey has dogsat for my little guy a number of times, both at my place and at her own house, and she is the best, hands down! My dog is very sweet, but he tends to get mopey while I'm away, so most of my worries are of the emotional type... But the way that Tobey interacts with my dog is really special. She LOVES dogs, you can see it in the way she talks to them, touches them, treats them. My dog responds so warmly to her, and that's the best test! Other things of note: when Tobey dogsits at my place, she really does leave it cleaner than when she arrived! (OMG she even seasoned our cast-iron pan last time around!) She is very thorough and asks the right questions about the dog, his habits, your home, etc. so if you're not 100% comfortable leaving your pup or your apartment with a stranger she will make you feel at ease. read more

Tobey and her assistants have worked with my family for many years. Originally it was only dog walking but they are so professional and effective, we quickly asked them to help with dog training and pet sitting when we traveled. They always took great care of our dog, Ditto, who can be a handful. Knowing they are fully insured and trained gave us peace of mind, even when traveling out of the country (they even check your mail and water your plants!). Tobey worked with Ditto's behavioral problems, barrier aggression, inconsistent walking/leash behavior, and got her socialized in remarkable time.
