Decided to take a ferry ride after visiting the nearby Swan Island Dahlias Festival. It costs $5 each way. It is a rather quick ride, but worth the money for the experience alone. The ferry holds about 4 full-size cars, maybe more for compact cars. The ride is smooth and you can get out and take pictures while parked on the ferry. Staff is friendly, and you pay once you're parked. A staff member goes to each car to collect. Would highly recommend if you're in the area!

I have a soft spot for the old ferry system. It's a little time consuming so if your in a hurry stick to the main roads. But when your ready to take your time it's a relaxing ride across the Willamette with a great view. $5 each way you can purchase a frequent crosser punch card online. Makes an inexpensive family adventure with the kids.

This is not a mighty ferry you might have in Seattle, or internationally. This is a Canby-size ferry. Where there is a Taylor's Ferry Road, Scholls Ferry Road, Sauvie's NW Ferry Road or a Boones Ferry Road, there was a ferry. There was a St Johns ferry, a Sellwood ferry and a Stark Street ferry downtown. This tiny electric powered ferry holds 6 cars and is popular with bicyclists touring the area's back roads. It can back up and with 6 cars per about 15 minute round trip, plan your delays accordingly. The Canby side has farms, including acres of rhubarb. The Wilsonville side has estates amid the working farms. The ferry is well maintained. It has 2 staff who manage the loading and collect the fare - $5 per vehicle. Cash only! It's good for families, but it is not set up for children to run around on. No restrooms. See the Clackamas County Canby Ferry website for hours of operation - http://www.clackamas.us/roads/ferry.html Google maps will route you over the ferry. Yelp directions will only route you to the Southern end.

If your around the area I would recommend trying it out. Not a lot places where this still exists. You drive uo to the stop sign and wait for the barge to come from other side of river. Once there you get guided to drive up to boat barge. You can stay in your car or go outside to enjoy views. Short river ride. Come during sunset and you'll relax and enjoying the ride. It cost $5 cash or check only. No debit or credit cards.

Going on the Canby Ferry is one of those fun little outings we tag on to a trip to Canby/Aurora. Rates are currently $2 for cars (but folks size does matter) and $1 for motorcycles. Passengers and cyclists are free. This is beautiful cycling country, so on summer days you'll see many people and bikes crossing the river as part of a long ride or run. It is a cable guided ferry and the M.J. Lee crosses the Willamette River in less than 5 minutes. If you are thinking of Seattle's ferry system, drastically reduce your expectations (this ferry holds 6 cars). But, I can't think of anything like it in the Portland metro area. Also, if I-5 is at a stand still around Wilsonville, this is one of your few options to cross the river and it is a beautiful way to do it.

This little ferry is amazing. Quick hop across from Wilsonville (ish) to Canby and you can wind around a few country bends and head on up 99E or 43 without hitting the wall of I-5....though I'd only use the ferry as part of a scenic tour not a regular commute if you know what I'm sayin. I feel like I step out of my current life and am in a bit of vacation land or time warp worm hole when crossing here. If you live anywhere nearby and have not done this yet you are missing out on a slice of Oregon history. Tip: don't blink while crossing or you will miss it!

This was a great experience of the Willamette River which I did not even know existed! I will definitely bring my young nephews along for the ride next time. The ferry ride is only about 5 minutes long, but the drive to and from was scenic and a relaxing alternative to I-5.

Traquair House in the Borderlands was a definite highlight. They even have a hedge maze out back! All that aside, Ginger knocked it out of the park. She put together a trip that allowed both of us to see some bucket list places in the region. There was never an issue of a lack of transportation, or a hotel failing to recognize our booking. We spent nearly three weeks trekking across the UK and everything was right on schedule. We did miss a ferry on the way to the Isle of Skye, but that was our fault. The three hour detour was worth it though. Scotland is one of the most beautiful countries you'll ever see. I could go on all day, but the point I'm trying to make is that Ginger put together a dream vacation of a lifetime. So many memories and moments that we'll never forget. If you're considering a trip to the UK, give Ginger a call. We'll without a doubt be contacting her again for a future trip to the Isles! Cheers Ginger!

No trip is perfect, but this one comes as close to perfection as you can get. We did 10 days across Greece which included Athens, Corinth, Mycenae, Epiduras, Delphi, Meteora, Mykonos, Delos, and Santorini. As you can see from the packed itinerary, there was a lot of logistics to be figured out. Our driver Kostas was amazing. We were driven to each site we were visiting and a private tour guide was there to meet us at every step of the way. We have all been completely spoiled by this trip Encounter tours took care of everything except our flights to and from Athens. I will say it again "our driver Kostas was amazing!" We felt like family. In fact, when (not if) we come back to Greece, we will be requesting him again. The one singular problem we had during the trip (which was hotel internal miscommunication) was handled by Chevy at Encounter Tours in real time despite being the middle of the night back in the USA. If you are thinking about booking a trip to Greece then using Encounter Tours is a no-brainer. If you're thinking about booking a trip to one of the other areas they serve I would seriously consider it as well. We will be taking another trip with them in the future!

I'm so happy that we took a chance and went with Chevy. Before the trip, he was very patient with us as we finalized the itinerary. During the trip, we felt like VIPs with our drivers/tour guides - they were all very professional, timely, and friendly. I've been on a "roll" of late with my transportation-related reviews. This is the first time I've…read moreused WES Train service ever in all my TriMet riding experiences over the years. It is now two days in a row that I have used this train to get to and from work in Tualatin. It has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. WES (Westside Express Service) covers the commute with stops at Beaverton Transit Center, SW Hall/Nimbus, Tigard, Tualatin, and Wilsonville. Whilst most of us call MAX "the train," it is light rail and runs with use of overhead wires. WES is a real train and uses diesel fuel and even produces all the proper train sounds with all the bells and whistles and horns. I'm still enough of a kid to take some delight in this. The seats are far sturdier than those on MAX and are plush and even recline a bit. The trains are as spotless as they can be. Another difference here is crucial. While you might have surprise fare inspection checks on the buses and light rail once or twice a year, WES employs what I would call conductors who check fare at least once a day. They are very professional, pleasant, and helpful, but they will ticket and fine you as well for not having a valid fare. When I have ridden the bus to Tualatin or further via I5, it can take an hour or more. WES takes about 20 to 30 minutes to do the job. No matter how you commute, it is not getting easier. However, WES really is a pleasant addition to our transportation menu.

WES (Westside Express Service) is something that is mostly very cool and also a minor "irritant."…read more I'll start out with the negative. This is review # 767, so it would make some sense to me that it would address transportation! In my review of Trimet, the organization which has WES under its umbrella, I indicated my displeasure that the southwestern part of the metropolitan area, roughly along I-5, has not yet seen a MAX line nor does it seem like it will in the near future. Southwest Portland, Tigard, Lake Oswego, Tualatin, and Wilsonville could certainly benefit from one. Thus, WES is an "irritant" because, rather than departing from downtown, it begins its journey to these suburbs from Beaverton, requiring another train ride to get there. Then, its hours are limited to commuting hours. What if you live in Wilsonville, puked your lunch buffet because of the MSG quotient, feel sick to your stomach, and need to go home at 1:30 p.m.? What if you live in Wilsonville, want a Voodoo donut at midnight, and don't have a sled at your disposition? All right, then, WES is obviously commuter rail in the true sense of the word. However, there's a lot to love about WES and that's why I give it 4 stars. WES does provide a link between MAX-serviced Beaverton and somewhat distant Wilsonville, albeit being restricted to peak hours. It is smartly integrated with numerous transit centers en route, such as the ones at Beaverton and Tigard. Stops are few, so the transit time is shorter and feels more relaxed. The trains are of the old school variety, though they are not old in terms of age, running on a wider gauge track and providing creature comforts that are superior to those of the MAX trains. The conductors on board, complete with uniforms and caps as if on a long distance train, are very helpful and friendly. Also, the flip side of limited hours is that you don't have the full moon crowd on board and the experience tends to be free of melodramatic antics. Folks, a WES ride is a real treat. Try it sometime. If you have a day pass ($5), which is exactly what a round trip with individual tickets would cost anyway, you can ride WES. Just don't stray too far from either the Beaverton or Wilsonville terminuses since there isn't much to see and do and you don't want to miss the next train. If I'm on the West Side and I'm using transit, I try to incorporate a WES ride if possible. It brings back memories. The rail cars have "all the right moves" of a larger train, meaning those longer lasting and smoother undulating motions, instead of the more jittery jolts and noise of a MAX train, though those are also fairly smooth and quiet riding. Then, you'll discover that there is some bucolic scenery outside your window, mostly between Tualatin and Wilsonville and, to a lesser degree, between Tigard and Tualatin. It is very cool to have such a train in metro Portland's urban transit network. So, if you're a Wilsonville or Tualatin resident, and you work an 8 to 5 either on the West Side, reachable via another rail or bus connection, or downtown, by connecting at Beaverton, WES has your number. If you just want to feel like a kid or a country bumpkin, WES has your number as well.

My friends and decided to visit Portland for the weekend. For some, it was their first time there,…read moreso I wanted to take them around to see the city, eat donuts, and drink beer. Since we had multiple stops and there were 15 of us including 3 toddlers, it would have been a huge hassle to call so many Ubers/Lyfts. Not to mention all the heavy car seats that we would have had to carry with us to each location. My solution: renting a private bus! I reached out to multiple shuttle companies, but Shanghai really stood out to me. Dusty responded almost immediately and was very helpful in providing details about their pricing and buses. While my main goal was really just to safely and efficiently get my group to the various spots, it was a plus that Shanghai's bus also included a karaoke machine. Once we decided on the terms and details, Dusty sent over a contract within the next few days. The morning of our ride, Dusty texted to let me know our bus was on the way. Our driver, Ron, arrived a few minutes early, so by our reservation start time, we were all set to go. He was professional, kind and drove cautiously. As it was raining, I appreciated that he dropped us off as close as he safely could at each location, and then picked us back up when we were ready to continue to the next spot. The cooler was also stocked with ice, as promised. We ended up riding the Solid Gold bus, which is literally a converted school bus. I must admit this was very different from our typical sprinter party bus experience. For one, I had never ridden a party bus with kids before, and blasting "Wheels On The Bus" instead of dance music was such a different vibe. Lol! The bus was unique and had a vintage feel -- very Portland. Given our situation, I actually preferred this over the dark, tinted windows of the sprinters we are used to. The Solid Gold allowed us to see the city during our rides. We got a lot of stares every time we pulled up to a donut shop or brewery, but it was a fun experience.
