Ask for Feedback On this camera that I just bought used and told him that was the purpose of me bringing it in to know whether I should keep it or send it back. He said that he would have to clean the sensor to know whether it works well or not and will give me feedback. And that it will be $60 came the next day after a text when they said it was ready when I arrived they said that they take cash only and that they told me that which they did not then I asked well. Is there any feedback on the camera? He said no I don't know. I did not fix it or look at it, and there was nothing written on the paper after he argued with me about whether or not I have been told about the cast only process I left to go get the $60 from the ATM and returned and picked up my camera with the same knowledge that I had when I dropped it off which is none terrible service and I felt like I was disrespected and scammed a little read more

I am happy to say that I had an extremely pleasant visit at the Camtronics repair shop today. I went in because my camera needed to be cleaned up a bit. John stated that it would take a few days to throughly clean it and I could pick it up Wednesday. I explained that I was leaving for vacation on Wednesday. At that point he cleaned my lens, shutter and screen very throughly. I asked how much I owed him and he said nothing. It truly meant a lot to me that he was so kind and considerate, and that he cared enough about my situation to do it! I will definately be returning in the near future!! read more

0. Stars. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I dropped my camera off on January 30 and the gentleman at the desk told me that the sensor could be fixed and that there would be no worries. I get a call back on February 1 giving me an estimate of the cost for fixing it which was around $350. I then don't hear anything back from them so I give them a call on February 12. The guy that answered the phone tells me that he will check and see tomorrow. When he calls me on the 13th, he tells me that the sensor would cost $500 to get shipped from Canon plus the $350 fee to fix it and says it would cost around $900. If there was a possibility of a part needing to be shipped into the store, especially when you are told what is wrong with it, then look at the camera itself and see what is wrong with it, why would you not factor that in to the final cost? I also believe that he forgot about my camera and didn't check on it until I called and asked because he was so quick to tell me about it not being fixable the NEXT DAY. Also, the professionalism that is portrayed within that business is nonexistent. I did call Canaan customer care and they said that it would range between $179, $359, and $619. How is the manufacturer cheaper than the local repair shop? Not to mention, they charge you a "bench fee" of $60 for even opening it up and looking at the camera. I hope they go out of business soon. They do not deserve any type of customer interaction. read more

Honestly if I could give a zero-star review, I would. I dropped off my Sony A7IV to them on March 30th because the mechanical shutter was malfunctioning. He said he'd call me in a couple of days to let me know what the problem was along with the cost to repair it. A week and a half later, I still hadn't heard from him so I called. He told me the shutter was broken and the shutter motor needed repaired, and that it would cost $700 to fix. I told him I'd think about it and asked if I could call him back to let him know, he was fine with that. I called him a few days later and said to go ahead and repair it (it would cost to be repaired if I did it through the authorized company Sony uses, plus I'd have to pay for shipping) he told me he wasn't at the office and to text him so he wouldn't forget. I texted him all the information he asked for and didn't hear anything back, which I thought was a little odd because I expected at least a text acknowledging he'd received my message. Over the following 4 weeks, I called him a couple times each week trying to make sure he was going to be repairing my camera (because again, I never heard back from him when I texted) and to see how long he thought it would take. He didn't call me back a single time nor did he answer any of my phone calls. I had a friend call just to see if he'd answer, because at this point, I was wondering if he was on an extended vacation, but he answered them the first time they called so he was obviously ignoring my calls. I had to just show up to their store to pick up my camera. At first he couldn't find it, then once he found it he acted like I didn't want him to fix it because it was going to cost $700. I'm a professional photographer and this was the first time I've needed to have anything repaired; I can honestly say I would never trust them with my equipment after this experience. It's now May, and I've wasted so much time because of Camtronics that could have been spent actually getting my camera fixed. read more

After telling me the price, I said I couldn't pay and to please wait, then when I went to get my camera back, they fixed it anyway. They called to let me know the camera was ready for pick up and they closed at 3pm - I arrived at 2:57 to locked doors and no one answering the phone. It was very frustrating. At pickup they said to bring cash only yet couldn't make change, I had to drive to a gas station to break a 20 because "they don't have a cash register" per the owner yet only accept cash. I would not go back. When I dropped off the camera I stood in the tiny waiting area for over ten minutes before even being acknowledge, it was the most bizarre experience. 0/10 do I recommend wasting your time. read more

Some people have cited smoking as a problem here. It's clear that somebody in the building smokes and smokes a lot, but there's no indication that anyone in Camtronics smokes, so let's just leave that alone. When the multi-selector on my Canon 60D stopped working, I took the camera in. Returning the camera to Canon would have cost several hundred dollars to replace the control. When I picked up the camera, Danny (son of the founder) said that the selector isn't intended to be taken apart, but he took it apart. He found rust (yeah, the camera was out in some pretty heavy drizzle a year ago) and was able to clean it. The camera works as it should and the cost was less than $150. This place has been in operation since the 1970s and a business survives that long only if it provides a worthwhile service. If you have a camera that's in need of service, take it here. read more

I have taken four cameras in for evaluation and repair over time. They rejuvenated 3 of the cameras and helped me to understand that the 4th was not economically feasible to repair. They could have repaired it and charged me, and rather gave me the options as to how to go forward. They have always had the information I have needed to make a decision on how to go forward, and let me make it. No hard sell or vagueness. We all increasingly grapple with businesses and staff that seem further and further distant from us, not helpful, commonly not knowledgeable, nor engaged. I feel I have been blessed to have this business available to help me move through matters that need technical know-how along with a solid professional presence that informs me as we go forward with my business. This place gets the job done well, but I must say, they are a bit strange as well. After Burning Man I took my camera there for cleaning, and a lens for repair. Seems there are two levels of cleaning, one being $50 and one being $250; the more expensive cleaning being a full teardown of the camera. Needless to say I went with the cheaper of the two, which was done within 2-3 days. The lens repair took a few weeks and in the end wasn't done in-house and was sent instead to Nikon. I did wonder to myself why I hadn't just called Nikon and sent the lens directly to them, and what additional service Camtronics was offerring at that point if they were unable to do it in-house. Perhaps it was cheaper through them, but perhaps more expensive? Hard to say, but that value wasn't conveyed very well. For some reason to clean my camera, they needed me to bring in the charger, since they didn't have a charger that would work with my Nikon D7000. I wish I had been told that upfront so I didn't have to make another 20 mile trip out there. It wasn't even mentioned when I dropped off the camera. So what's strange about the place? Well, a few things. First of all when you're Googling for them, they don't come up first. Nor do they come up first for "Camera Repair Columbus" or "Lens repair Columbus". This seems odd since they are pretty much the only place in town to have decent repair services. When you call them, whoever picks up the phone is often unable to answer your question. They say, "I'm not a tech, call back later" or if the question is about billing, etc they say, "I'm just the tech, call back later". They don't note down that you need called back by the appropriate party. I think at one point when I called them I just got a 'voicemail box is full'. Interestingly enough, the $50 camera cleaning I was charged for was $20 more than what is on their website, which advertises camera clean and check for $30. Overall, their website is just bad I feel. The location itself is odd. Its beside another camera store and doesn't have good marking from the street. The building itself seems a bit... faded? Its a weird lobby thing with empty cases that looks like it used to be a tiny jewelry store or something. I don't know. They don't have any products on display that they show on their website. Frankly, you'd have a hard time telling its a camera repair place and store from the inside if you didn't know better. The staff is nice, but they don't seem to cross communicate with each other very well. And finally, while they generally take credit/debit cards, for my camera cleaning I was asked to bring cash for the technician because they were the only one left that evening and "didn't know how to run credit cards". Not a huge deal, but just weird. I'll go here for camera repairs in the future, because its the only real option in Columbus. Overall Columbus is really weak for photography stores, and I basically just wait until I'm in NYC to go to B&H or Adorama for big things and film. read more

To be fair, I didn't end up getting anything done here, but here is why. When I walked in it smelled very strongly of cigarettes, as though someone was actively smoking. This seemed a little odd to me in a place with sensitive photo equipment and lenses. Also, right to the left of the counter where they take your information, there is a "back room" of sorts. I think that this is where the owner smokes. As I was giving them my information, it sounded like a dog was scratching and sniffing behind the door. I'm a dog lover, but again, in a place with sensitive photo equipment, maybe not the best place for a dog. I dropped the camera off, as this was the only place I could find in Columbus, but when I got back in the car with my husband who had been waiting outside, he remarked that I smelled strongly of smoke (after being there for no more than 5 minutes) I ended up going back in and getting the camera. I ended up shipping my camera to a place in Michigan that was recommended to me. Not only did they do it faster than this place did, it cost $100 less than I was quoted here. After reading the reviews I was a little reluctanct to go in and try them, but I figured what do i have to lose. These guys are amazing! My camera had a little issue and they quoted me a price and told me how long it would take. They fixed my issue and I can't believe the "big" camera store told me to send it to fricken MICHIGAN! I did call them and they quoted me almost twice what Camtronics did and it would take 4-6 weeks for repair! NO WAY! I came home from a trip and transferred my pictures to my computer. When I put in the media again my camera would not function. I called Camtronics and described the problem and asked if it sounded like something the could fix while I wait as I had a 3 hour drive to get to them. They said it was hard to tell without looking but would try. Upon arrival the found a bent pin and damaged media. I hated throwing away $300 worth of media but my problem would be back if I didn't. They suggested they might be able o fix it but is have to drive back the following day. I decided it was more economical to. Have it shipped. I called the following day and they had an issue and it was not back together when I called. The following week they were having more issues as it was not functioning with all media. They communicated completely and kept me in track with repair and sent me tracking numbers after normal business hours. Other reviews mentioned smoking but the only odor I noticed was that of the clothes of a heavy smoker. I saw no evidence of smoking in the shop. read more

They avoid phone calls and when cornered lied and said that it was still at the manufacturer, when I contacted the manufacturer directly they informed me it was repaired and sent back 7 months ago. I have an older Nikon 500mm prime lens along with a 1.4 teleconverter that I recently mounted on a D500 and placed on a tripod with a gimble head. For the first time in over three decades of photography, I apparently failed to fully tighten the mounting plate on the gimble head and the lens and camera fell to the ground. I tested the unit right after picking it up and the images seamed fine. However, when I broke the system down, I found that while the camera and teleconverter separated normally, the teleconverter itself was wedged onto the back of lens and could not be removed in the normal fashion. Faced with sending this large and heavy lens to New York City without knowing if this problem was fixable without a lengthy and significant investment of both time and money, I researched local camera repair services on the internet to at least get a professional assessment if nothing else. Camtronics was the only dedicated repair shop I could find so I took the lens to them. When I walked into this shop that has a small lobby counter, several work benches beyond it, and at that time one seasoned technician, I said . . . "I have had a tragic accident with an old lens I really love"; to which he immediately replied . . . "Well you have come to the right place because we love old lenses too. Let me take a look". Within 30 minutes he brought my lens, minus the stuck teleconverter but mounted on a compactable camera back to me and tested it through the lobby window. He then said "no charge for getting the teleconverter off but let me look at it for a few minutes more to see if I can repair it. This all happened 4 days ago. This morning he called to inform me the teleconverter was repaired for the exact price he quoted, which I suspect is less that it would have cost to properly insure and send the lens out of state. I couldn't be more pleased or happier to highly recommend this shop to any and all photographers who love their gear. read more

I went to three different camera stores in Columbus to try to get my lens that was stuck on my camera body off of it and I was told by all three places there wasn't a camera repair shop in Columbus and that I would have to send it out. Some required a $40 deposit and all of them said it would take 4-6 weeks to send it out and figure out what's wrong with it... Even longer of time to get it repaired. I wanted to have my camera for my graduation but wasn't banking on it. I also thought my lens would pretty much have to be destroyed to get it off the body. To my sweet surprise, these fellas got the job done in less than 24 hours, SAVED my lens and body and I can now have my camera for my graduation. The two men working in there were polite, professional, friendly, personable and didn't smell like cigarettes despite the other reviews below... The price for my repair was also reasonable. So convenient to have a camera repair shop in Columbus Ohio where I live instead of having to ship it across the US. read more

took advantage of half off sensor cleaning if dropped off on Saturday, took in 2 bodies one of which I knew sensor and mirror were very dirty. no issues no problems, I had advised was in no hurry. they called on Tuesday and asked if O.K. for another couple of days, no problem. done on Friday. price very reasonable, and even better at half off. did a very good job, cleaned the bodies also, looked really sharp. also cleaned 70 -200 2.8 lens I had attached at no charge. all wrapped in plastic when picked up. no issues what so ever, will use them again with out question read more

My first time coming here for a Nikon Camera repair. I was referred here by another local professional photographer. They were completely upfront in the likely prognosis of my camera being damage beyond repair within the memory card slot, however that being said were in fact able to come through and bring my camera back in working condition again. Couldn't have been happier news! They stated up front that they would completely diagnosis it and if it was unfixable there was no charge for the time. I found that to be pretty fair considering you can't get anything diagnosed now a days at no charge. Second they gave me a two week turn around time and it was done in 11 days. Another nice surprise. Charged me exactly what he said he would and everything was upfront and straight forward. So relieved to have found a place local that does in house repairs professionally and don't have to send equipment off to the manufacturer since they are certified in their training. This place stunk to high heaven! I went in there and the smoke was enough to make you gag on the spot. Now my camera and camera strap smell so bad. I cannot review their work since I would not leave my camera and lens with the company. My camera was not working properly and the lens was severely damaged. The man upon looking at everything for less than one minute informed me the lens was not repairable to go across the street and buy a new one. And that it would cost $150, to repair and clean the camera. When I asked what that entailed he said that I wouldn't 't understand and that it would be $150. I am not completely blaming the gentleman, I did have my 3 children with me and as the lobby was not large enough for a stroller, my 2 yr old was not confined as I held my 1 yet old. This was obviously upsetting to the man helping me and he yelled that people were trying to work there. As I could not see this and could only here a dog barking I told him I would take my business else where. He had a few choice words for me as I left. I hope this man finds peace but I will not be returning to find out. read more
