Before passing over this business due to a handful of Karen-reviews, I would encourage you to read…read morethe older reviews 'not reccomended" by yelp. Because these reviews are old, they are not taken into account on their overall rating. I did not take any classes with Blue Horizon (yet) but I can speak to Kelly's professionalism and willingness to take time out of her day to discuss my investment in my first regulator and BCD. After our lengthy 40-50 minute conversation, she sent me an e-mail with several gear options at different price points, taking into account everything we discussed in terms of what kind of diving I would like to do and weighing that with the research I'd already done. The shop specializes in ScubaPro, but Kelly was knowledgeable about Xdeep (my other top contender) and helped me price out what that BCD setup might look like. She even lent me her partner's BCD to test in the pool, So I could make sure it's what I really wanted. The rental tank and regulator set that she lent me was well maintained, clean, and functioned and breathed perfectly - A testament to the equipment being well taken care of, which is never a given with any dive center. So far, I am very happy with the solution Kelly and me settled on. She made sure it was delivered prior to a trip I had planned to Cozumel, and I've taken two dive trips with my new equipment. I love it! so much better than the rental equipment I struggled with prior. I got the chance to meet some of the folks who dive with Blue Horizon afterward, all of whom are lovely people who are becoming new dive buddies and friends. A great business run by great people and a lovely dive community!

Jim is very educated and truly is a master of his trade. His compassion to properly train his clients is admirable and inspirational. He took me from a snorkler to a scuba diver! No stone was unturned: I really understand everything I was taught and Jim took lots of time explaining things from the basics to the advanced topics. I'm hard to teach because I'm VERY type A and inquisitive, and he was patient and so smart in explaining everything- past what the book and videos show you (Part of your time is spent watching the videos and answering questions and the other part is actually spent in the water before you go to deep water diving) However Jim's clients range in age and skill level! He teaches many courses from your open water to advanced and rescue and more. He teaches 10 year olds! And they were AMAZING! He really knows how to teach because he is so incredibly well versed. And through his many years of experience he can speak to the old versions and methods of calculating and also the new versions and upgraded systems of scuba equipment. And speaking of this, he's also very thorough in managing and cleaning his equipment and tanks. His maintenance schedule is impeccable and he's very, and rightfully so, Type A about this! I was also really comforted by his use of both feminine and masculine updated suits! It makes a big difference to not wear a suit that's just one size fits all! Jim typically works with Riverwinds for the five under water dives before you go to the Dutch Springs Quarry. But I work 6 days a week and explained that this is not something I could make happen. He kindly and professionally opened up his home and back yard 45ft length pool for me to complete my check out dives. The quality of training I received is unmatchable. And Jim prides himself on putting HIS signature on your log book. He wants it to be completed correctly and efficiently. And he makes you laugh as you go along, too! The world of scuba opens up so many doors and opportunities: im grateful to have had the entrance I did into the underwater wonderland that exists on this earth! Jim at Ocean Aquatics is the place to complete your training. Hands down. You've found what you're looking for. See you under water!

Do you want to be the most competent scuba diver? If you answered yes to all of that ocean horizons scuba is for you, if you didn't reread my review five times and re-ask yourself those questions . I loved scuba diving and like most people when you initially try to get your scuba certification, your probably looking for the "best deal" like where can I get certified for the "cheapest price". Well you can go on yelp look up reviews call 15 scuba shops and I can almost guarantee not going with Ocean Horizons Scuba is a big mistake. When I went scuba shopping some places will give you your certification after one day in a pool and say "hey your certified, just go complete the course online and finish your certification dives and your PADI certified" After one lesson in the pool do you think your ready to get tested on skills underwater in the ocean or a quarry you decide? Paul's prices are so reasonable....There is really no competition. Paul & Jimmy (the handsome instructors) are the gurus of the ocean they drill the concept of diving and the risks as well as understanding. They embed information into your brain. The course is 5 weeks, that's right 5 long weeks of water time(spent either at YMCA park slope or Ft Hamilton high school) and class time... and if you aren't picking it up fast enough they wont "let you fly just yet" they will take you under there wing and spend individual time with you in the pool or tell you to come for extra classes(no they wont charge you, they genuinely have your best interest at heart). If you feel uncomfortable about a skill they will review it with you, over and over again. They prepare you to take the NAUI certification and are more than willing to help you out with anything. Paul plans trips to Cozumel and Micronesia and other places once your certified and also to complete your certification. Like I reiterated when you take a class with Paul not only do you become a certified diver but you just got a first class ticket to one of the best circle of divers to travel and dive the world with! Not only would I go back and do it all over again and again but this time I would take the paper with the list of other dive places and throw it out and not waste my time. I went to Thailand and It was such a great diving experience I owe it all to two hardcore scuba instructors. Working a full time job, and going to school Paul accommodates to every schedule possible. Weekend, Nights he has so many classes to choose from. Ocean Horizons Scuba has one goal and its making the best and safest divers in the world!

We had an incredible experience, with instruction being both academic and practical at the same time. Paul demonstrated a patience that remained unabated, answering all of our questions, and never failing to share his wealth of knowledge gained from decades of scuba experience. Pat, his colleague, was the best guy ever, fun and surprised us in helpfulness, showing up to provide assistance wherever he could. We would never recommend any shop other than OHS to do your certification, and look forward to diving with Paul again on his future trips!

The things we liked about it: It was a lot of fun, water was clean, floats were large and varied with lots of different activities for the kids to do for all ages, plenty of shade and picnic tables, and beach loungers available. The things we didn't like: Bathhouse was gross, snack shack is unreliable-make sure you bring your own food, grounds were unkempt. If you pay for the observer fee, you're not allowed on the dock. I thought this was unfair. I wasn't going in the water, just wanted to take some photos, but they wouldn't allow it. I did have a life jacket on. With the exception of paddleboard yoga, they are open to organized groups only. We came with our Girl Scout troop. Guppy Gulch is not open to the public. As of August 2023: Pricing: $27/day for swimmers; $10/day for non-swimmers; $10/night per person overnight camping. Check-in begins at 9:30am; the water opens at 10am and the last horn blows at 4:45pm. Overall we had a fun day, but this facility needs a major facelift especially for the rest rooms. The port a potty was cleaner than the bathhouse, enough said!
