St George is fine, pretty expensive. I live on San Andres and parking is difficult. Pretty though but you could find cheaper.

Boy did we dodge a bullet when we ended up in Santa Ynez! My kid originally signed up for a "loft"…read moreroom at Campus 880. But they did a bait and switch after we signed the lease and announced that she'd be getting a crappier room at a higher price. At that point I had read enough of the nightmare stories about that management company and it's evil owner that frankly, I was glad to get my kid out of their clutches. That's a whole story and I'll tell it on their yelp review, but suffice to say that the experience made us paranoid about being scammed so it was a real relief when we showed up at Santa Ynez and found a decent apartment project run by decent people. Check in with Santa Ynez was a cinch at the beginning of the year. It sucks that there are FIVE students in 1 apartment but space was already an issue at UCSB and was made much worse by the pandemic. The only hard part is that 3 of her roommates had roomed together in the past and were good friends. They've been very cold and rude to my kid and the 5th girl. As if the apartment is theirs and the other 2 are interlopers,. My kid is now going thru the process of being relocated. She had to prove that she was living in a hostile environment and that wasn't too hard to do. The place wasn't exactly sterile, in fact, it appeared to have not been cleaned or touched at all since the previous group left. The counters were covered in crumbs and other such evidence that the clean up fees are absolute bullshit. The Santa Ynez complex is pretty nice and the apartment is comfortable. And no issues w/ bugs. It's not their fault that the roommates are a-holes.

Nice community to live in! I feel pretty safe when I'm walking alone outside, and there's a bus…read morestop right in front of the apartments. Santa Ynez is located convenient distances away from school, iv, and Albertsons, Costco, etc.... plentiful parking spots, laundry room with lots of laundry machines, 3 community centers with a piano, flat screen TV with cable, couches, vending machines for drinks and snacks (cup noodles too), studying tables, pool tables, and more :) The apartments here aren't that updated, but it's pretty spacious and not shabby at all. Lots of trees and grass where you can play soccer! My only complaint is that there's so many random bugs that fly into the apartment ): Update: my roommate and I leave on the weekends so the apartment is empty for a few days every week. When I come back, I always find multiple spiders invading our kitchen sink and windows it's really creepy. I live in the 200s, bewaaare ); pretty sure they come in from the bushes planted outside the windows and doors. LEAVE ME ALONE )': UPDATE: ITS 5AM AND I FOUND A SPIDER CRAWLING ON MY PILLOW WTF THANK GOODNESS I WAS AWAKE OH MY GOODNESS WHY ME

Santa Catalina is a residence hall outside of campus. It's the largest residence hall, housing 1300…read moreundergraduates. A third of the freshmen class live here. Santa Catalina is divided into North Tower and South Tower, 11 floors and 10 floors respectively. The learning living communities here are First Generation, Outdoor Adventure, Scholars Floor, the Wellness Floor, and the Substance-Free Floor. It was originally called Francisco Torres, nicknamed FT. The named has been changed almost decade ago, but it is still called FT by everyone.   The rooms are doubles and suite style. Two rooms share one bathroom, verses a whole floor sharing one bathroom. The rooms are a little bigger than the other dorms. Like the rest of the dorms, there's study lounges, kitchenettes, laundry rooms, and a recreation room. Since it's off campus, FT has its own Dining Commons, Portola. Food isn't the best at Portola, it's the definition of bad dorm food. However, there's a pool and fitness center on site. If you live on a high floor, you can get a view of the mountains, oceans, or Isla Vista. The main concern living here is the distance to class. It's more than a mile away, around a ten minute bike ride. There are buses you can take, but it gets crowded on rainy days. If you're on a top floor, it could be more of a hassle to go in and out. The distance to Isla Vista is similar to the on campus Chi-5 dorms. FT is also considered a social dorm, comparable to Anacapa. Compared to the rest of the residence halls, you'll probably meet a lot more people because of the high density of freshmen here.
