We used to attend these faithfully pre-pandemic and this was our first one in a few years. If you're unfamiliar with the workshop, it's a free event every first Saturday where children get a kit to build an item. This month was a pinball machine! We love the Home Depot Kid's Workshop for the family engagement and the life skills. Our girls get to practice to use hammers and screwdrivers and fixing their mistakes with tools when they move too fast or attach something wrong. The workshop captain this week was (I think) Victoria. If I got the name wrong, it definitely started with a V. She was EXCELLENT with the children and families and stayed waaaay overtime, welcoming in families that arrived late and helping them build their machines. The other team member I saw periodically I believe was named Amaya. They were very friendly and helpful. When we asked, they brought us kits from past months so that we can do some builds at home of some of the projects we've missed. They also gave us a list of all upcoming projects for the rest of the year. It was interesting to see some of the upcoming builds are similar to the ones we did years back. It was a welcomed touch that they offered the parents bottled water and brought out snacks (prepackaged Oreos and Chips Ahoy) for the children. The workshops of yesteryear never had snacks!

To get good results, you have to pay attention to the details. Just like a quality thermometer to pull that brisket at the right time, you need quality clean burning dry wood. I have a box of Smoak Firewood cherry, white oak, hickory and pecan at the ready at all times, if I get an urge to grill out or smoke on my PK360 or Cookshack. Every box appears to be hand picked, and clean and fresh but most importantly it's kiln dried. Having several boxes at the ready allows me to pick and match the wood to the thing I'm cooking. The owner Amy and staff are incredible folks that can answer any questions you have and even provide appropriately sized pieces. I'd much rather give my money to a local small business like this. If I'm remembering right, I believe they also supply several restaurants with cooking wood. This wood is even packaged so nice, it would be a great gift for a foodie! If you need some on a Saturday or while in Newnan or Sharpsburg it's also available at Cleaver & Cork.

It was a little more expensive than some, but the quality is better than anything I've had before. Why does that matter? It starts easily but burns much longer. The pieces aren't from a trash tree, no rotten sections, perfectly split and clean. My full wood rack will last much longer than the cheaper products I've used in the past. I am a huge fan.

Jacobs did a great job helping define what would be the best course of action for my yard. I knew…read moreit needed aeration but wasn't at all clear what else I needed to do. Will suggested reseeding with a blend of a hybrid bluegrass, creeping fescue and mini clover. I had them remove an overgrown area and regraded it flat and level. They did a comprehensive job of mechanical aeration, graded where needed and applied the seed along with an organic growth promoting solution. He has revisited the job several times since we did it () and has reapplied the growth promoter. The fescue and mini clover are up and growing very well. The bluegrass is showing up now also and looks great. The neighborhood rabbits are eating their fill, and you can't even tell it. The yard has never looked better, and I feel the value received was well worth the cost. Will did a really good job of bidding the job, and of communications along the way. This is not just another guy with a lawn mower - he really knows how to make a lawn thrive.

Our focus is natural, soil-first lawn care. Instead of relying only on synthetic fertilizers and harsh weed control, we build healthier turf from the ground up through natural fertilization, soil testing, biostimulant sprays, aeration, and topdressing. The goal is stronger roots, better soil structure, improved drainage, and a lawn that becomes more resilient over time. Aeration and topdressing are a major part of what we do. By opening up the soil and working high-quality material back into the root zone, we help lawns breathe, level out, and recover from compaction, heat, and everyday wear. We also offer natural mosquito control using targeted baiting stations and botanical spray options, giving homeowners a more thoughtful alternative to routine chemical fogging. Jacobs Turf is for homeowners who want more than a quick green-up. We focus on long-term lawn health, smarter methods, and results that come from understanding the soil beneath the grass.
