I have been to numerous chiropractors over the past thirty years. I am also a medical writer and considered an expert in functional medicine, and have seen a number of doctors over the years for pain and other health issues - so I recognize a quality clinic when I see one. Unfortunately, this one is not.
Still, I wanted to give Campbell Chiropractic a chance, because of all the good reviews and because the staff is very nice - but truthfully, I feel that the treatments are done in a 'get 'em in and get em' out,' mill-like fashion, and I don't think that Dr. Darby truly knew how to help me. I came to see him for a pinched nerve in my lower cervical/upper thoracic spine, but after 5-6 treatments, I felt no differently.
One of the treatments I did here was spinal decompression - which didn't do anything for me but create sharp, shooting pains in my upper neck (where I don't need the decompression, and where Dr. Darby thought, based on my x-rays - I shouldn't do it anyway), so I thought it was odd that the decompression seemed to be targeting this area. However, he said it is difficult to decompress the lower cervical/thoracic spine, where I needed the help.
The other issue is that Dr. Darby doesn't really do a complete adjustment of the spine - just a few very minor adjustments here and there. I understand wanting to be careful with clients, but having seen over a dozen chiropractors, I've never had one just do a few mild tweaks to the spine. I would leave the practice not feeling any differently.
Finally - this place WAY overcharges for what they do. The spinal decompression treatments involve laying on a table, placing your neck in a cradle and having the device stretch it upwards for ten minutes (it's a less sophisticated device than the one that was used on me in the past), followed by five minutes on a table that massages your back (but which does literally nothing in five minutes), and a quick adjustment. For 15-20 minutes of therapy, they charge a whopping $150, or $105 if you buy a package of eight treatments - which is still a lot for what it is. The cost should be half this price.
I have since started seeing Dr. McAlees at JT Chiropractic/Thrive Health Systems down the road, and highly recommend his practice instead. He charges $59 for a more thoughtful, comprehensive, intelligent and individualized approach. He truly listens to his patients and has been using a technique on my spine that is finally releasing the pinched nerve. He also doesn't require that his patients buy a package of treatments in order to get the $59 price. The clinic does offer that option to save a bit, but they don't pressure clients to sign up for a package, especially on the first visit - which is really not smart for patients to do if they don't have much experience with a chiropractor, anyway. I learned the hard way not to do this again, until I truly know whether a chiropractor's approach will benefit me.
I also see a chiropractic internist for some chronic health issues that I battle, and he spends a good 45 minutes with me to assess my body and then test me for the appropriate remedies - for the same price that this clinic charges for a quick neck pull on a machine and mediocre adjustment. Yikes. This just smacks of greed to me.
Sorry guys, but as Sean (another reviewer here) mentioned, it feels like your treatments are short and the process is dragged out in order to charge people more. Just my take after 20 plus years of being in the medical field, and seeing numerous practitioners myself for over 30 years. read more
