I come from a military family and have so much respect for these military bases. I have a family member that has been serving in the Marines for the past four years and is stationed here. So I have been making frequent trips to nearby Oceanside to visit. He has given me a few tours of Camp Pendleton and I got to attend his SOI (School of Infantry) graduation. I'm always in awe of how huge Camp Pendleton is (over over 125,000 acres). They have a few stores, fast food options, and a couple gas stations. Camp Pendleton was established in 1942 during WW2 to train U.S. Marines. It became a permanent base right after the war ended. It is one of the largest Marine Corps bases in the U.S. Camp Pendleton hosts year-round training for Marines. It is home to the I Marine Expeditionary Force. They also take in new recruits from nearby Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego for a few weeks before they come back for SOI school. There are more than 42,000 active duty service members stationed at Camp Pendleton. There is civilian housing for military family members, high ranking officers, and retired military personnel. It is such an honor for me whenever I come on base and I am very appreciative all of those that serve our country.

Ok where should I begin, I've been to many bases in San Diego, but this one by far the biggest with some history dated back in 1975 where it become a temporary refugee camp for the Vietnamese who left by boats, the base provided them all for the first 3 months, nowadays the base is known for everything you could ask for from a small isolated city, minus the drive since it was so big, it has a hospital, a gas station, a bunch of restaurants including my favorite Panera Bread although it still missing the vanilla syrup at the coffee station, the main thing for me here is the movie theater, which took another 10 miles to drive after passing the main gate. I was late about attending these special events they offered at the theater here, although smaller in sizes compared to North Island, it has the best celebrity guests you could imagine, and I said I missed a lot of big names such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and many more, if I knew sooner. Of course like any bases, I have to get a sponsor to gain access, most people get in to shop and eat because it's cheaper obviously, for me I want to watch movies. Apparently I didn't know I could get a visitor pass which lasted me a week at least or one month maximum depending on my business, so I am glad I got the help from a friend to stay on base multiple days. My first time here was back in 2018, I went to see Clint Eastwood movie Richard Jewell. Then Covid happened, I never get a chance to come back until recently I attended 2 days of movies screenings with both Mike Rowe and Kevin Costner appearances. The theater also provided free refreshments for everyone who attended. I never seen any bases that well organized and cleanliness compared to this one, and that speaks from my experience at 32nd street and Miramar. Getting in and out was just a breeze, no traffic congestion, just smooth opened road if you're willing to drive, then you'll be right back on the 5 freeway. Definitely keeping myself updated with all the stuffs going on here at Pendleton and will visit again.

Camp Pendleton was established in 1942 to train members of the USMC. It is a massive base and of the bigest USMC outposts in the country at over 125000 acres. The base exists to basically train marines. From Sea to shore and all other aspects of amphibious assault are taught here. Getting on the base is impossible unless you have business there. However, as you run along the highway the plane spotting is pretty impressive. In the first 5 minutes I was able to pull over and get fantastic shots of a USMC CH-53 practicing combat landings . Aside from that as noted unless you have access to the base there is little else to do but spot.

It helps to personalize all that is taught in classrooms across California. Mission San Luis Rey is one of the prettiest missions that I've visited so far. The parking lot is large, and it also has an overflow to accommodate larger crowds during special events. There is a large, white church that is in the center of the parking lot. Due to its size and proximity, it immediately grabs your attention. Many people begin exploring at the church, but there's much more to see. If you walk to the far left side of the property, you'll see the actual entrance. There is small gift shop as well as a counter where you'll pay your entry fee to explore the museum. One thing that I liked about Mission San Luis Rey is that replicas of various artifacts looked pretty authentic. Also, the backstory for each item was described in detail. The mission was incredibly clean, demonstrating how much pride people take in the presentation of the property. There is a small cemetery adjacent to the church. You can walk around and pay your respects to people who had either a physical or emotional impact on the mission and the community. The grounds are well-maintained and it remains inviting to people who want to explore around. The church is large and inviting. You can purchase candles and place them near the entrance as well as the room off to the side or another room closer to the front of the church. The displays are beautiful and well-lit to draw your attention to details. People maintain a low tone in the church to allow guests to pray, have a moment to themselves, or to make a connection with a higher power. Before you leave, make sure that you stop by the small coffee shop. It's located near the bathrooms near the south side of the property. There is a little gated patio area where you can hang out with friends, family, or even your dog! Mission San Luis Rey is a great place to visit. People are very friendly and quite helpful. When we went to the mission, the weather was perfect and we had a clear view of the area. It was a great experience and I will definitely come back for another visit. I don't know which mission we will visit next, but so far, this is my favorite.

It honors and chronicles the story of surfing over the decades through a vast permanent collection and has a rotating series of special exhibits focusing on narrower topics, As a music fan, I was thrilled to see one of these displays dedicated to "Stars, Cars, and Guitars" and the birth of the modern surf era 1958-1965. If you love that period's music, movies and pop culture (think Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, Dick Dale, Gidget, Beach Blanket Bingo) you will love that part of the museum. Other exhibits looked at a collection of surfboards chronicling the history of surfing, the inspirational story of Hawaii's Bethany Hamilton who lost a chunk of her surfboard and her left arm to a tiger shark, a look at the science of wave swells, a look at body surfing and much more. The museum is a blast and takes a deep dive into one of the more interesting aspects of California culture that evolved into American culture.

I am more into art than surfing itself (I'm a scaredy cat) but I found a ton to keep my interest here. The highlight is easily the shark-chomped board from that famous surfer Bethany who had her arm taken by a tiger shark back in the day. Only $7 per adult, kids under a certain age free.

Even though it is an outdoor park, it has this energetic atmosphere that teenagers would enjoy a lot. I saw a surprising number of teenagers around the lookout areas, the trails, and the picnic spots, which made the whole place feel youthful and social in a way that reminded me of the playful energy I felt at Funko Hollywood. The wide open views at the top almost felt unreal when I first saw them, and I could easily understand why so many teens were taking pictures there. The scenery practically invites you to take photos without needing anything extra. As I walked around, I realized there was more to the park than I expected. Some parts of the trail felt a little worn down, and a few areas could have been more polished, which is part of why I would give it four stars instead of five. Still, I appreciated how easy it was to explore the park without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Even with groups of teenagers laughing and taking pictures, the atmosphere stayed calm and relaxing. I only visited Double Peak Park one time before writing this review, but it left a strong impression on me because of how open, peaceful, and lively it felt all at once. It is one of the more refreshing outdoor places I have been to in a while, and I never doubted that the experience would turn out the way I hoped it would. I would highly recommend that teenagers go there because they would love the photo opportunities, the sense of freedom on the trails, and the creative feeling that comes from being somewhere with such a wide and inspiring view. It gives them a place to hang out, take pictures, and enjoy themselves without spending any money.

Unfortunately, it was a bit too foggy to see much. The volunteer ranger (John Walsh) answered questions and explained differences between various stars, meteors, satellites and sky debris. Occasionally, the sky would open up for us to see a few stars. We did get to see the summer triangle and a satellite though.
