My wife attended this school for junior high and she said it was the best years of her academic life ! After our first tour, I thought I died and went to heaven. We literally nicknamed the school "Ed utopia". Let me say as an educator with 20 years experience, it takes a lot to impress me. This school has it all. Amazing teachers that truly care, a community sense where every teacher (no matter the grade) knows every child, multiple teachers for every class, ridiculous technology innovation, opportunities for public speaking, and the parents truly join together and get to know one another and help each other in true community form. I now have a fifth grader and first grader here. We live 30 minutes away but it is well worth the drive for the experiences my children have that only this school could provide . Its hard to drop him off, I want to get out and participate in the activities.Where to begin...well first off its super well run by a well-trained friendly staff. They help with everything including applying sun screen at beginning of the day. Kids are assigned to a coach with same age kids, and let me tell you these coaches are hand-picked- super nice, love kids and know their sports. You can tell many of them play elite sports themselves. The camp is well programmed with different themes each week- basketball one week, Olympic week the next. Competitive but in good way. Lunch is really good- food kids like to eat like Popeye's chicken, pizza, and Fridays they grill hot dogs and hamburgers for the kids. Pickup and dropoff is fast and easy and location right off the highway- or there is bus pickup from many Northside locations. We moved to Park Ridge but Jack insisted he attend camp regardless (he met his best friend there) so Mom and Dad take turns driving him an hour each way sometimes (so worth it). They have a great photog who sends out super cool videos each week. Field trips to Cubs games and water parks. Its so great we usually sign him up for most of the the summer, and take advantage of the early bird pricing before January 1st each year. We cannot wait for the camp to start this summer, its hard to imagine a summer sports camp as good at this one. I live in the neighboring condominium community, and Patty Turner frequently hosts our monthly board meetings. As well, many local city meetings will convene here when the Deerfield Library is overbooked. On occasion, several city and county sponsored day trips will board here. The Patty Turner building also houses the toilet and drinking fountain facilities for Brickyards Park during the spring and summer seasons, where many festivities are hosted (particularly the 4th of July). The Patty Turner Center features plenty of parking, including more than average handicapped parking spots right near the building. The inside of the building is spacious, with many places to sit and offering many amenities to area seniors. Their meeting rooms are also very spacious, offering lots of comfortable seating, and are lovingly decorated. The indoor facilities are all ADA-compliant handicap accessible, and well-maintained. Every area is well lit; most featuring room-wide windows and skylights for natural lighting in the daytime. It's quite apparent Deerfield cares very much for its seniors, based on how much care the Deerfield Park District puts into the Patty Turner Center. I think it's one of the top community features of the whole town.

I wasn't involved in the planning or budgeting, so I can't speak to those aspects, but from the moment we got into the property to set up to the last moments of tear down the staff was nothing short of exceptional. They were consistently able to help us with any questions we had. They assisted us when the layout needed a few modifications. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and cared for while we prepared. They were available exactly when promised, as was the space. After the event they were so helpful with tear down. Giving us good directions about what we needed to do and how we should proceed. We couldn't have had such a successful event without their assistance!! And I haven't even described the venue itself! It is lovely. The room we used was spacious enough for all of our tables and a dance floor too. The kitchen was ample and situated nearby. The outdoor area was perfect for cocktail hour and cool respite from dancing. The light fixtures in the event room are gorgeous and the ceilings are high. We had a terrific event and would recommend it to anyone having an event.

The last thing my family needs is another activity, but I like the flexibility of Code Ninjas. We signed up for a monthly membership for 4 hours. You sign up ahead of time for a day/time that works for you so that you don't have to commit to the same time every week. As of now the options are 4, 5 or 6pm on the weekdays and 9, 10 or 11am on Saturdays.  I've learned that you just need to sign up at least a week ahead to grab the day/time you want. I would love to see more time options on weekends- later on Saturdays and Sunday times too. My son has been 4 times so far and seems to love it more each time. He submits the actual work he's doing so that I can see it and actually play the games he's creating. His 5 year old brother absolutely loves playing his big brothers games and is begging me to sign him up for coding too. They do have a class for junior coders, but it's more of a builder class (I believe on Sat mornings) vs coding on your own. The work they do is graded by senseis and they progress to new levels similar to how it works in karate (yellow belt, etc). That keeps him and his peers extra motivated, although he seems motivated by the work itself. He's also already asking about doing a roblox camp next summer and while we have time to decide on that one it's something we'll definitely check out.

I've…read morealso toured the building, and I have to say each time I set foot in the front lobby I'm reminded of how spectacular Takiff is... we're talking a first class facility that's as clean as a hospital (in a good way). Takiff is a huge space that consists of a bunch of rooms for classes, for kids to adults, like art, yoga, cooking, enrichment programs, and I think there is even a pottery studio. The gym is oversized for sports activities and events (I don't think they allow food or drink in there). Today I saw how organized their staff is when it comes to managing the many kids coming in and out of the building for day camp. For those thinking of signing up for a program, the team seems to really have their act together. Everyone is lovely and professional. Aside from the various classes and classrooms, GJK is onsite, and I think they also have another Park District preschool. Wiggleworms hosts music classes here too. Though I haven't actually seen the beach rentals, I've seen pictures. Inside there is a more formal room in Takiff with gorgeous windows and high ceilings, fit for a beautiful wedding reception or other formal event. The main level party room with a stage seems like it would be great for kids birthday parties. So much to do and see. I could go on and on, but you'll just need to go check it out for yourself! If you're coming from the north, the turn is a bit tricky, so keep your eyes peeled for the entrance. Parking lot onsite.
