The Forest Hill Military Academy in Millersburg Kentucky is all over the internet, we have our own…read moreblog that we make updates on every single day and sometimes more then once a day, you always know when and where we are or where we have been and you always know exactly what we have been up to.. *Now... to start this off, you referred to this camp as hell on Earth.. well if that is the case then don't join any part of the military because this is just a taste of what basic training is all about, literally learning the basics for the military.. *Second..You said there are two friendly troop handlers, well honestly you are not here to make friends, you are here to learn your basics, learn discipline, and if you are interested in the military then you're here to learn what basic training is in order for you to decide whether the military is for you or not.. *Third.. The weather is very hot but you have to remember, its Kentucky, its the summer, and the whole country was affected by a heat wave, so you're guaranteed hot weather.. *Fourth.. It is correct that there are no air conditioning units in most parts of the barracks but again if you were thinking about joining the military and you get shipped to Afghanistan then you better believe that it is 100 degrees hotter and guess what? There are still no air conditioning units.. *Fifth.. your wording for "In the beginning you are not wearing hats," is completely incorrect. The General himself made it clear that no human being was to be out of cover, meaning you were not suppose to be in direct sunlight without a PC (Patrol Cap) on your head at all times.. *Sixth.. It was stressed multiple times that you WILL be in the SUN, and you NEED to bring SUNBLOCK.. so leaving it on that note your head was oozing and sunburned because you didn't wear your PC and apparently didn't properly use sunblock.. *Seventh.. Every meal has been sent to this Military Academy by the Health Department and yes it isn't the tastiest food on the face of the planet but that's because it isn't the junk food you're use to every day. You should be thankful that you had three healthy meals a day that prevented you from passing out if you ate and drank water properly in order to keep your hydration. Which we also stressed that you do every time your platoon was at halt!! *Eighth.. It is correct that in the first five days you have no free time, but your parents do not pay for you to have free time when it's desired for you. Your parents pay for you to have a military experience, learn discipline, and help you figure out what exactly you want to do with your life. *Ninth.. It is completely incorrect about juvenile delinquents because it is required for every recruit or Cadet that they have a background check sent with there paperwork to the Military Academy before ever stepping foot on this campus. *Tenth.. We are described as a team and nothing different. None of your stuff got stolen otherwise the staff would have known about it and would have done a search for your belongings.. The Cadre got into a "Heat of the Moment" because you all as a team could not keep your barracks clean and when it was time for barracks maintenance you all would lie on your bed and sleep.. In return your rooms got "Tossed" so that way you would have no choice but to clean your rooms. *Eleventh.. If you have asthma you can't get into the Military whatsoever because it is not healthy for you and no branch will take you. Meaning, you should not be at a Basic Training Course. *Twelfth.. You weren't able to get out of bed because apparently your body is not use to so much Physical Training which caused your body to swell.. Meaning you should get physical. *Thirteenth.. Again the floors are filthy because during barracks maintenance everybody would sleep.. *Fourteenth.. The showers do have hot water , but how can you have so much hot water if you said there is always about 10 showers running at a time for 30 minutes for each person? *Fifteenth.. Fire watch is one of the most important concepts of basic training, and if you fall asleep while being on Fire Watch and there is a fire , then you can guarantee that you and your team will not make it through that fire because someone couldn't stay awake while being on their Fire Watch because they were selfish and too busy worrying about how much sleep they get.. If you decide to go into the military and go into combat, the most sleep you will ever get is 30 minute intervals because your other teammates watch out for you. Shall I go on about more stuff? This place is amazing and if your thinking about joining the military then this is the place for you, it gives you a variety of what the military is all about and teaches valuable lessons!!! Hardcore out the door!!!! HOOAH!!!

Cons: -The weather is extremely hot, usually above 100 degrees. -There is no AC at night, so you sleep in 90ish degree weather. -In the beginning, you are not wearing hats, and many many people get extreme sunburns, some are forced to go to the hospital, I had my head oozing pus. Then it began to flake a lot with dead skin, resembling dandruff, which is not a pretty sight when your in a public place. -The quality of food is very unhealthy, and every day i'd still be hungry after each meal. -The food is also unsanitary (won't go into detail here, but it's not clean) -Silverware is often uncleaned, bits of food still left on -During the first 5 days or so, there is no free time, so you don't have time to make friends or anything. -Some of the people are juvenile delinquents, there were druggies and a few gangsters. -One of the staff members went into a rampage, which he described as getting into the "heat of the moment"..... He rampaged through every ones private belongings and ruined much of it. I had letters lost, powder, lotion, dirt, everything imaginable in my clothes. -If you have asthma, there is a lot of pollen here, and other things that'll make your asthma act up. -Because of Physical Training, I developed an extremely swollen leg. It was so swollen I literally grew what looked to be a kneecap on the side of my kneecap. After leaving camp, I couldn't go up or down stairs, or even walk up or down a hill for ~3 days. It also hurt getting up out of bed. -Much of your belongings WILL be stolen. -The hygiene is overall bad, the floors are FILTHY, wall paint is PEELING off. -Showers are ice cold, because the hot water heater apparently can't even produce enough heat for 1 shower, yet there are always about 10 showers running during shower time. -Lack of sleep... They SAY you can get up to 7 hours of sleep. Yet lights out is supposed to be at 10:00, usually ends up going until 11:00 or 11:30. Even then, firewatch people who are on duty will shine flashlights in your eyes and wake you up because their goofing around. They make lots of noise and can wake you. It's also so hot that it takes me 2 hours to go to sleep usually. Giving me 3-4 hours of sleep daily depending if I was chosen for firewatch. -Firewatch resembles guard patrol, makes you feel like your in prison because you can't stay up or move too much, and if you're chosen you get even less sleep. -There is no contact with the outside world whatsoever.... No calling.... No tv... No internet.. No newspaper... NOTHING. It really gets to you, as you know nothing of whats happening. -If you do laundry, your clothes will often be stolen, or still wet because the laundry drier sucks. -There are a crap load of bugs in the area, including fleas in your bed (I think they were fleas)... MANY flies.... And mosquitoes... Etc. -The water you drink is dirty, unfiltered, and you can taste the uncleanliness in it. -The room I slept in had a suicide about 3 years back, so that was rather creepy to find out. -You also will have 2-3 roomates you sleep with, and some people get VERY unlucky and get people who snore all night, and are very messy, etc. -You are supposed to keep your bed neat, as well as your floors clean, though the mops they provide with you are already filthy. I put on white socks, walked ~20 feet to bathroom and back. When I looked they were brown on the parts that had touched the ground. -Physical punishment (like being hit by the staff, etc) isn't tolerated, though they do YELL IN YOUR EAR EXTREMELY loud, which damaged my hearing badly. They also forced many people to do push ups in the tar, which gave my hands burns. -There are other things that may slip my mind at the moment, but believe me when I say this, unless you truly like suffering and being miserable, don't go. Overall: The camp costs a VERY high amount of money, and they provide you with terrible living conditions and food. You are to be treated as dirt during the RED PHASE, and still like dirt in the other phases. Much of the staff here are also cops who work in the Police Department just across the street. I think they chose this small town (at least one reason) is because they can corrupt the Police Force to turn a blind eye to the Legal issues they break, because Millersburg is a town of ~800, all the policemen belong to the camp as well.

One of my friends put me in touch with Brett, and he was literally a dream. Everything about the way he conducts his business is professional. He makes the entire process as easy as possible, and even though I am a very high-strung, anxious individual, his calm nature coupled with his compassion, made the experience beyond fantastic. There were several skills that were more difficult for me to attain, and he was patient, understanding, and always provided me with the information to complete the task at hand. He worked around my schedule, was efficient, and now thanks to him, I'm ready to scuba dive all over the world. Quiet Trails was my find of the year!…read more I am hesitant to write a review because putting it on the Yelp map might make it a little less secretive. I only found out about this place through word of mouth from a few friends as there is very little information online. For the locals in Harrison County, Quiet Trails has been a popular hiking spot along the Licking River. This year-round hiking trail loops 1.7 miles down to the river and back up. The loop is actually two different trails that meet up at the same point - so you can choose to go down and up the same path, or go back on the other path. We initially choose what we thought was the more difficult path (Challenger Trail) to get down to the river, and the 'easier' path back up -- but I think it should have been marked the other way around. One path is rather wide and easy to see -- the other (Deep Hollow) is very narrow and goes through some very steep areas. While some areas are clearly the path, some parts were a little bit harder to see and we had to use intuition to figure out which way to go. Yet, it is a stunningly gorgeous hike, especially on the Deep Hollow path. We were told that it would be an easy, short hike. It wasn't easy or short at all with a toddler that wanted to be carried nearly the entire time. Once we got to the river, we had a little bit of a break as he wanted to wade and splash, but we were eager to get out of the heat and back in the car. By the end of the hike, my back was so sore (can you guess who carried the kid most of the time?). We will try to come back when my child is a bit older and more willing to walk himself, or just without him on a day date. If your kids are used to hiking or over the age of five, they will most likely be fine. Also, the GPS will take you here -- but be prepared to be a bit confused as you drive through back roads to find this place. The little gravel pull-off [parking lot] with the gate and a small sign is actually the entrance to the preserve. You'll have to shimmy through the fence to get to the paths. We were so confused if we were even in the right place until we saw a person that was a seasoned hiker in this area. Thank goodness! Oh, and bring a stick to knock down some spider webs. I'm excited to come back here next summer and do more hiking!
