Rollin, rollin, rollin!…read more My coworkers and I took a church to Carolina Creek for a week and i was excited for the group. What a joyful welcoming, I would have stayed if they asked me:)).

PLEASE READ AND RECONSIDER YOUR DECISION:…read more I feel very guilty to send my children there. Since the camp is not allowing kids having any electronics there, I had no way to know what was going on. Upon picking him up, he rushed me to take him home with teary eyes. This is uncommon to see him, esp now a middle school boy to show such emotion. I asked counselor how he was doing this week, he said, "it's better, but was rough at the beginning." I curiously asked, "what do you mean 'rough'?" He simply answered, "Words" and did not elaborate further. When we were ready to drive away from the parking lot, my son said "They are RACIST!" I was surprised what came out of his mouth. I carefully clarified what was going on.. He said many of his cabinmate said he was a "Ching Chong" and was a "WONTON BOY"!! The counselors witnessed everything but did not report to upper and took bullying situation seriously. Counselors hid, brushed off, and did not relay the incidents to parents (as they are young college students too). My son was just reading his book upon arrival as he is a "slow to warm" personality and did not bother anyone, but was being treated with UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIORS by his cabin mates and MENTORS. I was expecting this Christian camp would be a transforming experience, but it traumatized him at very difficult middle school age. Last day of the camp, kids leave with a booklet called "21-day challenge". By having such devotion, you get a "prize" once you complete them. I encouraged him to do it, he simply put it aside with a very sad sad face... As his mother, my heart aches. May God heals him fast and understand people (whether children or adults) that being mean or brushed off his hurts do not change God's and our love to him... As I mentioned the incident to Pastor Al before we left, he said, "I myself said something when I was younger that was not right either. We cannot stop all the situation to happen because that is how the world is now, quite sad." Will you take all these as parent? If you are colored ones like us, God still love you no matter what. We are not thin skin like wonton because He brings us trials and we overcame them, at this Carolina Creek. Also, I just found out from my daughter that kids are not allowed to wear ANY shoes inside cabins including shower/bathroom area. All shoes have to be left outside cabin. Our particular cabin - no bathroom allowed to use at night because this disturbs others. You know what, she unintentionally brought a poisonous toad back home when we washed her water shoes. I cannot believe it...

I am emailing to report that we are completely floored and disappointed on how our child was treated while at your camp last week. The lack of accountability is unacceptable! That your nurse would argue with us about our child's medication instructions, after she did not administer medication to our children all week, is so irresponsible! I made an attempt to speak to those in charge, but everyone kept passing me on to someone else! On the way home, our child informed us that she was so sick, she was having accidents in her bed; and asked to call home to inform us and was denied access to a phone! This is unacceptable!! If YOUR STAFF is incapable of taking care of OUR CHILDREN while in your care, then at the very least, someone should have contacted us and given us the option of coming to get them! Her counselors bullied her and allowed for her bunk mate to also bully her the entire week! She stated that one counselor pushed her because the counselor did not feel that our child was doing as instructed. The other one stepped on her hand and stated to her, "I am so NOT sorry for doing that." Our child also asked to see her younger sister because she was so sick and was denied the request when other campers were allowed to hang out with their siblings. When she asked why she could not see her sister, the counselor told her because it was her first year; and that only campers who have been attending for several years were allowed to visit with their siblings. If there is going to be such favoritism then maybe you all should NOT have put out a Groupon. Our child came home broken and has not been herself since we picked her up on Saturday. She is distant, she does not want to make eye contact with anyone, and she does not want anyone to touch her and most importantly has not smiled since she has been home! I seriously hope that you will re-train all your counselors; but especially your nurse, because all this behavior is inexcusable!

My daughter went to camp here last year. The experience she had was so incredible. The counselors…read moreto the directors are very sharp and nice people. It is not too far from home and very new and clean. I am guessing this camp is less than five years old but the construction and thought process behind the layout is wonderful. They have a huge slide that goes into the lake. They have a theatrical theater, new, clean, very nice cabins that have AC. They keep out fresh fruit as snacks, and my daughter being a vegetarian had no problem at all. The leaders of this camp base everything (from what I can tell) about developing your daughter into a strong independent person. They stress the great women in history and the impact they made on our lives. They lead your child into coming home full of confidence and pride in the things they accomplished with out your help. My daughter did one week last year but it will be two this year. This camp made a huge impression on her life and I am excited to see how she grows in the next session this summer. This is a very nice safe and protected place for you child. I often look at the picture on her wall hanging out in front of her cabin , messing around with her friends, having the time of her life. Sincerely, Papa Bear.

My daughters have been going to this camp for 5 years. Every year, they count down the days until…read morethey can go again. It's been a magical place for them. I'm so happy that Piper and Popsie (the leaders) have been part of our lives. Some of my favorite stories my girls have shared.... When my youngest daughter went for the first couple years, she had a "big sister" from the 9th grade leadership girls. The big sisters are supposed to grant wishes for the little sisters. Well, my daughter wanted to stop time. So, her "big" got everyone in the camp to agree that if my daughter yelled "Freeze!" in the dining hall, everyone would stop in place for five seconds. It was an empowering moment to know her wish could come true in such a creative way. Another year, my older daughter was struggling with some friendship issues. When the counselors ended up giving her the firelighter award - as someone who represented the spirit of camp - her entire self-perception changed in a very positive way that carried forward out of camp. This year, the middle school girls wrote everything they didn't like about themselves on post its, stuck them on their counselors, then ripped the post-its to shreds... so they knew they could destroy the power those things had over them. On top of all these amazing self-empowerment moments, camp is just fun! My girls come back learning new songs, happy about new friends, and exhausted from having so much activity for two solid weeks. And they even rave about the food. We heart CLC.

This is a great neighborhood YMCA with a good variety of amenities and classes. One of the biggest…read morehighlights is the outdoor pool, which is heated during the winter and stays open year-round unless temperatures drop below freezing. The pool also has a 9-foot deep end and a few lap lanes. One downside is there's very little shade around the pool area. Inside, there are free weights and cardio areas, basketball courts, TRX setup, and several group fitness rooms offering classes like yoga, pilates, Zumba, pickleball, and other fitness programs. The instructors and staff have always been very friendly and welcoming. The men's and women's locker rooms also include a steam sauna and hot tub, which are nice amenities. However, the steam saunas are frequently closed or broken for maintenance, so I'd recommend calling ahead to confirm what's currently working before visiting. Another downside is that the lockers require you to bring your own lock--they do not have built-in combination locks like many newer gyms. They offer memberships for different age groups, and another huge plus is the free covered parking garage. However, during weekday evenings (around 6 p.m.), the garage can get pretty full due to after-work crowds and youth programs. I've been a YMCA member for several years and would definitely recommend this location.

I also like the weight room as it has an impressive selection of smith machines and cardio equipment such as the treadmills which have fans incorporated into their machines. There are 3 things I have noticed that I don't like: 1. the weight room doesn't have a bench that allows you to do workouts in declined mode and the staff wouldn't let me donate a commercial bench with that option. so Declined DB or BB press cannot be done which is strange as it is offered at most corporate gyms. 2. DB selections for the most common weights sets such as 10-25 lb are lacking with only 1 set of DB weights per designated weight for a gym that might have 15 people working out in free weight room (the very least offer *3 sets of 12 lb dumbbells). 3. the men's locker rooms wooden benches and the three leather seats by the tv are stinky dirty and we know this bc every-time I placed my towel on the seats or the bench to change out of my clothes; this foul smell is left on the towel. The smell is so potent that it transfers to my gym bag like trash left out on the sun for several days and I find myself having to wash the towel and the gym bag just to get the homeless stench off. I have learned to avoid the men's locker room like a plague and instead use the lockers found across the gym to put my belongings.
