Love this place!! My son enjoyed his two weeks of day camp and his mini 2 day overnight camp this summer. He will definitely be coming back next summer. Kayaking, swimming, archery, outdoor living skills, and crafts are just some of the things he participated in here. If I had any suggestions to the camp, it would be to find ways to take more pictures and share them with the parents. I loved the two I saw of my son on Facebook the first week, but he managed to miss all the other weeks in photos. He says he was in other pictures, but I was never able to see him. I love seeing the fun he had in photos. Also, the counselors shuttling from the YMCA were fantastic! read more

Camp Cha-La-Kee is a sleep away and day camp for children ages 6 to 15 that incorporates wholesome outdoor fun, opportunities to build friendships, and life-changing character development. Activities on the beautiful 61-acre campus, located on the shores of Lake Guntersville in North Alabama, include canoeing, kayaking, zipline, high ropes, archery, riflery, boating, tubing, swimming, arts & crafts, The Blob, nightly devotions and much, much more. We provide an eight-to-one camper-to-counselor ratio and a Healthcare Professional is onsite 24 hours a day to administer first aid and dispense camper medication.

YMCA Camp Cha-La-Kee was founded as a rustic retreat for youth and now welcomes children, families, youth and church groups, and business organizations to its picturesque campus on the shores of Lake Guntersville.

Meet the Manager: Danny L.

Danny Lawless is the Executive Director of YMCA Camp Cha-La-Kee! Our camp exists today to give children opportunities to make friends from all walks of life, try new things, overcome challenges and fears, imagine, create, grow and make lifetime memories. An experience as unique, unplugged, and special as ours at Camp Cha-La-Kee is only possible by ensuring that every activity, opportunity and moment spent at camp is safe, fun, magical, and adheres to the core values of our YMCA. Danny was called to the world of overnight camping and previously worked at YMCA Camp Chandler on the shores of Lake Jordan in Wetumpka, Alabama. Danny has 12 years of YMCA service, and 5 years of camping leadership, and is proud to call Camp Cha-La-Kee and the Heart of the Valley YMCA his home.
