I had been to physical therapy more than once, had an MRI and then a steroid shot in another city. When I moved to Houston and the pain was worsening and the mobility was decreasing, keeping me up at night and throbbing in the day, I made an appointment with Dr. Brian Banh. He spent time assessing and then treating the shoulder at each of our sessions with plenty of time and attention. He listened to me as I reviewed each week's improvements and added to the treatments each time creating more healing, movement, and strength. Now I'm off to another city and he has given me exercises to condition my upper body so I can continue the process of improvement. Amy, at the front desk, and Dr. Banh are professional and friendly. They run an efficient office but most importantly, they delivered results. My old injury is now not limiting my mobility thanks to HYPE Sports Medicine and I am so thankful.

Finally, after a year and a half of dealing with the pain and it and only getting worse, I decided I had to do something. Dr. Ho would tell you I have a high tolerance for pain, but this was unbearable and I would wake up every night in tears it was so bad. I went to Texas Orthopedic Hospital to a shoulder specialist who wanted to shoot me up with cortisone, I'd had X-rays, an MRI, and went to a very well-known neurosurgeon to try and find out what the problem was. I didn't want to temporarily fix it, I wanted to know what was wrong. He said he didn't know why I didn't just get the cortisone shots and walked out of the room. If I wouldn't get sued, I would tell you his name. I couldn't believe it. I'd driven almost two hours to go see him because he came so highly recommended. Needless to say, I didn't go back and was furious! A friend recommended I go to a chiropractor. Her chiropractor in Wyoming recommended two in Houston whom I researched, but saw Dr. Casey Ho had, at that time, 20 five star reviews and was also an acupuncturist. HE'S who I wanted to see. He got me in the next day. Three needles later, ART, and an adjustment, and I walked out pain free...PAIN FREE!!! I'm grateful DAILY that I found him. I've been going to him for eight years now because I tend to be somewhat clumsy, and have taken some pretty bad falls, mainly because of my dogs, but they were completely my fault. Unfortunately, both shoulders have torn tendons. Each time after my appointment, I've walked out with no pain and have full range of motion in both arms . Thank you so much, Dr. Ho. You're my hero.

Last time I checked, manipulating the lumbar spine doesn't help strengthen a leg. When I went for the assessment I explained I had atrophied from being bedridden and needed to be able to stand and walk - I was using crutches. I explained in detail that muscle imbalance was from a serious case of Piriformis syndrome where I was scheduling for surgery, and need to get in shape for the required Tavel to Nevada where the surgeon is located. I explained to her: don't stretch or engage the piriformis; I told her not to engage my glutes since that creates severe long lasting pain. The first session she decided to check for nerve issues - why? It was clearly due to muscle imbalance. Then I explained that my back was fine after 5 years of therapy and could only go into flexion, not extension. And to leave it alone. She only had 4 years of PT experience and didn't have a clue about the spine, sciatica, neuropathy, etc. But she just couldn't listen or assess with all the detailed facts. So the fist exercise was to have me sit on glutes - everyone knows that burns like hell and creates pain in the piriformis- pedal away on a compact floor pedal machine. Ok. I had pain my ankles after that. So she claimed it was nerves even though I had no strength. I had go home and rehab my ankles and feet myself bc she didn't know what do but claim it was nerves! What logic. The next exercise was trivial: prone position, knees bent, and raise the knee off the table. Ok. So after that I strained the tendons and developed groin strain. She never figured that was due to extreme weakness. Each time I went in, I showed her my leg muscles were spasming in an over nervous protective way. She never connected the observed weakness in general or the legs was where the problem. She never assessed the strength in my in my calves , adductors, or quads. She completely ignored the history and complaint, went off target, and decided to exercise my glutes, my piriformis, and then rock my lumbar spine at S1. Even though I told her not to do those, she confidently said it was ok. Ok for what! That wasn't going to help my legs and those exercises were contraindicated for my condition. Immediately after getting home I felt searing pain at S1/L5 that radiated into the sacrum. It was pretty obvious that her poorly designed exercise damage by spine. After a week of searing pain and OxyContin, I got an MRI which confirmed the pain from her exercise aligned with the symptom and the report showing a S1/l5 bulge/tear. And later confirmed with the pain med doc. So I went there with symptoms consistent muscle imbalance from Piriformis syndrome and requested during assessment that I strengthen my legs so I could walk. Instead, she ignored my detailed history, and went into areas that she had no knowledge to experiment bc in her mind it was nerves and disregarded my everyday comments about leaving my piriformis, back, and glutes alone. She didn't know what she was doing, didn't go her boss and tell him she didn't have the experience needed for my condition, or seek help from colleagues. Total negligence. Remember the old saying, "do no harm." And now my legs are more unstable, I have serious pain, and will have deal with this simultaneously with surgery and travel. And am I going to need back surgery from a careless PT? BTW, her boss doesn't view this as serious problem.
