I only started going to this store after the other two camera stores nearby closed in the past few years. I will gladly travel further to one of the other camera stores in the Oost or deep Zuid by subway rather than walking to this tourist rip-off trap.

We walked in and after being welcomed with "hallo!" my husband asked for passport photos. The man then points to the mini studio set up. He gave quick instructions to look straight ahead and not smile, took three photos (by hand!), and asked which one he preferred. A couple clicks on the computer later, the photos were printed. He then manually popped them out of the photo card and put them in an envelope. We found the price to be very reasonable at 10€ for 6 photos. I saw a sign that they take travelers' cheques if you have them, but there is also an ATM close by, and of course they take PIN.

Don't get mislead by the shop front, this place is huge! And it's not a stationery store (like I thought because of the display) but an artist supply (like it says on the plaque). But they've also got stationery. Only when you enter and walk around you notice how big this shop is and their assortment is HU-MUN-GOUS! I haven't seen so many different paint / acrylic brands in all my life so far. I guess Van der Linde basically has got everything that you may ever need for painting (thousands of paint tubes and brushes) or being creative with paper whatsoever. They have more different articles than you can even imagine. All kinds of paper colours and sizes, sketch blocks, maps, foam boards, books about relevant topics, a vast stationery assortment, spray, easels, and and and. And they've been around since 1910 and know their writing instruments, and in a friendly and accessible manner. Actually my penmanship is atrocious and is nothing like the neat and beautifully flowing left-handed writing of my parents. But I still like a good pen for its heft, good feel, comfortable writing, and maybe as a piece of pocket jewelry. At P.W. Akkerman, you'll find an extensive pen selection for all budgets, plus fine papers, notebooks, and other accessories. I've recently needed to buy clear mailing labels for sending a bunch of cards out. They have a good selection of avery labels. Although this shop on Rozengracht didn't have the size I needed in clear labels (many in white) they called the store on Linbijstraat close by to see if they did. They did! So I just hopped over there. If you have time and can think about these things in advance, you might be better off ordering supplies online, where prices might be a bit cheaper. However, the service is good, the quality is good, and convenience of location is great. They also have a large selection of pens, paper, etc.
