Daughter before Gastric Surgery
Melissa B.

Noel's Journey Begins at CAMC General with her Gastric & Hernia Repair Surgery on 01/31/2022 My daughter had Surgery at CAMC General in Charleston WV at the Short Stay area on first floor. I was there from 630am to 4pm, they didn't admit her because toomey Covid cases in hospital. Dr Shin did her surgery. The nurses and staff was so helpful & friendly. Mask mandate and temperature checks in effect, security team helpful with Visitors Pass and directions. The cafeteria food good and reasonably priced & importantly Clean!! The gift shop staff helpful and very nice!! I bought her a Get Well Balloon and Purple Bear!! Highly recommend this hospital for your needs to!!!

Blessed she is doing so well.

My granddaughter was attacked by a pitbull. She was taken immediately to Cabell. They took care of what they could but she had to be transported to CAMC for surgery. She received amazing care from Dr. O and his staff. She was so very well taken care of. She was placed on 5th floor trauma peds. Those ladies were fantastic! They all took such great re of her. I am so very grateful. Everyone was absolutely amazin to Willow and myself. She was definitely blessed with the best care. My family and I are eternally grateful. Ty all!

My daughter was there for 2 weeks last year. She self admitted because she was having a hard time…read moredealing with depression/anxiety on top of having ADD. The staff made her discharge before she was ready. Just stated that they were only there to stabilize her. They said they referred her to another outpatient facility closer to her home, but they didn't sent anything up. Told her to make an appointment. Her appointment was set for 6 weeks after discharge. During that time she has episodes almost everyday. She was unable to return to work. Basically they kicked her out and left her to deal with it on her own. She's been trying for 2 months to get her records sent to her primary care doctor and her new psychiatrist to no avail. Either they don't answer or say the person in records department is unavailable. I knew Highland was the last place that my daughter should have gone to but she insisted, now she understands why I didn't want her to go there. It's just as bad as it was in the 80's. Anyway, she has a right to have her medical records for continuation of care at the very least. I would appreciate it if those records would be made available to her. Otherwise might have to speak to a lawyer about Highland refusing to send them to her or letting her chosen proxy as named in her file to pick them up from the hospital in person.

I love this place. As a patient of Highland Hospital, I would say that this place was great. A lot…read moreof people say it's bad, but clearly, they either weren't there or the reason they think it was "bad" is because they were the problem. I spent 9 months there and obviously at first I thought it was terrible, as anybody would. And I wouldn't judge anyone for saying it was terrible, within their first week to maybe third. Any longer than that and I would say they're lying. After you settle in and you begin to actually begin to be understanding and not be an immature brat that complains and whines about it, you actually get to see how much you misunderstand the situation, and you'll start to realize that the only downside is you aren't at home. I wasn't the nicest person when I went in, I was always fighting, cussing people out, I was even having suicidal and homicidal thoughts, but the staff, that everyone says is terrible like a bunch of jackasses, helped me as much as they could, they comforted me when I needed it and they cared. There are very, and I mean VERY LITTLE, staff that are bad, and that is only around 4-6 staff out of the maintained average of 120 staff. The nurses are great, staff are nice, comforting, and sweet, and everyone says they are terrible, but I think they are a bunch of irrelevant assholes and don't know how to see situations correctly. And parents say their kids come out worse, but that's 99% of the time not Highland Hospitals fault, it's because they have shitty parents that don't raise them right and it makes the kids think that they're above it all, in which causes them to be insolent assholes that act all tough because they're a bunch of idiotic toddlers. They offer good hygiene, not the best, BUT edible food, they offer therapy and activity class. And there are countless upsides. I loved this place, and I think it helped so much, and if you are ever looking for a place to get help, I would recommend this. If not, I would recommend you find a therapist that actually cares. Or you can believe all the irrelevant shit brains and stay away. All I know is this place was great and it helps so many people, including myself.
