Camas Cove Cellars recently opened their tasting room doors to the public. They have been growing grapes in the Moses Lake area since 2004. The vineyard was planted on a former sand dune which is now stabilized by the grape vines. The sandy volcanic ash soil produces rich flavors in the grapes adding depth and complexity to the various wines. Founded in 2009, they hired a knowledgeable wine consultant (Cameron Fries from White Heron Cellars) to help them produce the wines in the style that they enjoy drinking themselves. They are currently offering 3 Reds and 2 whites including: Their Estate grown Syrah plus, a Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (aged for 4 years in French oak and neutral barrels). Their main focus is crafting Bordeaux & Rhone styled wines. The whites are: Thelma and Louise (50% Chardonnay and 50% Roussanne) which has been aged on the Lees for 2 years in neutral French Oak barrels and was named after the owner's Mothers. They also offer a Roussanne Reserve. Their tasting room is open Saturday's and some Sunday's from 1-5 pm. Call ahead to make sure they are open on Sunday. Directions: Driving west on I-90, take exit 174. Turn left at end of ramp over the I-90 Bridge. Left at the "T" onto Frontage Road. Proceed straight onto to Sage Road (follow ORV signs). Right turn on Sand Dunes Road, proceed for mile, turn left on to Camas Place, proceed for about 1 block, then right turn into the winery driveway. Driving east on I-90 take exit 174. Turn right on Frontage Road, go 1/2 block then turn left onto Sage Road. Turn right on Sand Dunes Road, proceed for mile, turn left on Camas Place, proceed about 1 block, right turn into the winery driveway.

It's a must visit for those coming from out of town who want to enjoy afternoon or evening filled with curated pleasures, wines, beers, tasty small bites, and truffles. Bruce keeps me coming back because, well, I like him, he's engaging to talk to. He also offers unique and high-quality wine selections, including a wide variety of reds, whites, and in-betweens. He has plenty of both still and bubbly options, which is very rare around here, and his palette is excellent. He's talented at introducing people to new flavors that fit their tastes, and I now have some stellar WA wines on my favorites list thanks to him. And I appreciate that he features WA wines only (except for bubble options, I believe) because drinking a region's wine is a great way to get to know it better. Speaking of bubbles, he actually found me more than one WA option that I really enjoy, and I say actually because 1) I'm very picky, and 2) WA doesn't make many ones that suit me in my overall experience. He works magic. The atmosphere at Roost showcases the owner's creative side, with a boutique flare and fun household and life accessory finds that are available to buy but also act as part of the eclectic decor that has a rural chic French vibe. (See the antlers picture for an example). I can't imagine surviving here without this oasis.
