Ok so the place is kinda austere with a rabbit's warren of small dining rooms. The lighting; bright! But the pizza... Huge menu. Lots of toppings. Cheeses, eggplant, anchovies. It's Sicily. The crust is thick, not Napolitean style. But crispy and good. Then they cut it checkerboard style. This I haven't seen before. But you can then eat it with a fork. It gets very crowded so get there early. Seems to be a favorite with the local families. A unique experience and a wonderfully different kind of pie. read more

The place is really local and busy when open. We walked by around 6pm and they were starting the preparations in the kitchen. It is possible to ore order take aways. The place is open for customers from 7pm. The pizza was super delicious, but I felt dehydrated the next morning. May be too much dough at once. If not this feeling it would be 5 stars. read more

A hidden pizzeria mostly object of visits by the locals in the once premises of a brothel. Very high quality of the ingredients, it doesn't look like a classic pizza: it is thicker - almost like an American - and crispier. Service is quick and direct, all revolves around the quality of the pizza served there. Prices are moderate, but you want to go there because of the authenticity of the place which probably didn't change much over the years. This place was everything other reviewers said it would be. The crust was a little thicker than other Sicilian pizzas but with a crunch, not soggy at all. Toppings were perfect. The pizza came cut in a checkerboard with pieces maybe 2 inches to the side, I had never seen that before. We got there right at 7 and it's a good thing because it was packed out at 7:30 and that is eating early if you are in Italy. No reservations accepted. Menu is Italian/English but our waiter spoke Italian only, so ordering involved pointing and gesturing. Not much in the way of ambiance but who needs ambiance when the food is so good. Bottom line: Possibly the best pizza I have ever had, for 10€. If in Trapani, you must eat here. read more

This is an institution in Trapani, and a must visit! When we went on a weekday evening at around 9pm, the place was absolutely heaving with local Italians trying to either order a takeaway pizza, or waiting for one of the few tables inside to open up. There were kids, couples, families... everyone seemed to enjoy Mr Calvino's pizzas. I recommend going for the medium pizza for two; its actually a large size by non-Italian standards, and go for a half and half, choosing two different flavours. I've never thought I would give 5 stars to a restaurant which interior look like an hospital's rooms, that gives you a plastic glass and doesn't have dessert. (In fact the restaurant looks more like an entire hospital as it is composed of several small rooms that look like a labyrinth.) The pizza was so good that it is a 5 stars! We went there one night buy it was so buzzy that it looked like you had to wait half an hour to give your order so we took a reservation for the next day.
