I came to Calvary Temple in the fall of 1985. I know that I will get the Word of God without compromise. I do not hear what I want to hear. So many times the teachings are not always at the congregation but the messages come to meet the needs of one or two people in the congregation. This means that my needs will be met. I am involved in several different ministries that reach out to the needs of the community. The most important meeting of the month is home fellowship or what some churches can cell groups. The leader of each cell group will report back to the senior pastor what the needs are. While there is a general structure to the services, services have been changed to reach out to meet spiritual and physical needs. I have been encouraged to keep an eternal perspective. The environment exists to seek Father without distractions. For over 20 years the sanctuary has been opened every evening so there are no distractions. The congregation has been encouraged to share their faith without compromise. One of the real treasures is getting encouraged by like minded people. This is one of the main ways I have been encouraged over the years. I grew up in church and the worship is alive. We sing some of the classics hymns like Amazing Grace and It is Well with my Soul as well as some of the contemporary hymns like Lord, I'm desperate for You. One of the great joys of this fellowship is that an environment exists for seeking God. In the Spring of 2008 after having a MRI I had to have emergency brain surgery. The image showed that I had a tumor the size of an orange or tennis ball. This was an overwhelming experience. I knew that the care would be there but it went far what I would imagine. I went through the process with no complications. The care of the body overwhelmed my parents. I told them that this is the way that the body should work and that I am no exception. The hardest part in the process was receiving. I want to give back to those around me. The body has lifted my hands up in time of warfare. One of the battles that I face is that my life does not make any difference in the congregation but I have encouraged others. A second and more humbling circumstance occurred in my life recently when I watched several men in a foot washing service. It is very humbling to being compared to men like this when I still battle with this self-esteem. I'm in my mid-twenties, and I've been attending this church with my family since I was a child. Through college, I had many friends who attended other local churches, and hearing about their experiences (of being the only twenty-something, or wishing they had more Christian friends at church their age) made me very thankful for what Calvary has to offer. One of my favorite things about my church is the number of other people in my age range (19-35). Most churches have huge gaps in ages--either lots of families with young people, youth group, or more elderly-geared ministries. What's great about Calvary is that there is at least 100 people in my age-group. Many times, young adults get lost after they "graduate" youth group, and the fact that we still retain that sense of unity and family into our twenties (and thirties) is so cool. (The Young Adult group has one monthly meeting, one monthly activity (like baseball games or camping), and weekly opportunities to just hang out and play games/fellowship.) Being a kid who was raised in church, I wasn't always so excited about having to go to services all the time. But, as I matured and developed my own relationship with the Lord, I became so thankful to not only be taught such strong, foundational messages, but also to have people who know me well enough to see if I'm actually living what I claim. Many churches are large enough to where people can get lost in the crowd, but I could name a dozen people right now who could look at me and not only know if I'm struggling or hurting, but take the time to pray and encourage me until I feel strong again. Calvary Temple offers three service times a week (Sunday AM, Sunday PM, and Wednesday PM) in addition to opening nightly for prayer. Every Friday is "Family Night", where families are encouraged to come out and play board games/field games, or just unwind and fellowship after a long week. There are lots of opportunities to volunteer in local outreaches--from retirement homes to prison ministry to car shows to community events, and I'm excited to be a part of the Sunday School ministry for the last seven years. I have been attending this church since January 1991. At the time, I was in my mid-20s with a wife and three children (now 4, with grandchildren!). The thing that stood out to me the most was how the people truly love one another. The genuine sincerity of this love is seen everywhere you look. The second thing that stood out to me was the faithfulness of the people. The ministry is set up in such a way that there are church services, prayer meetings, family night...something every day! I have attended other churches in the past and if they had meetings other than Sunday morning, they were never well attended. The people at this church are at everything together! In the early years of my time here, this intrigued and drew me. It didn't take long to realize that the love and faithfulness was real and as a result of people that had truly encountered Jesus. Now, after these many years, I am part and parcel with this big family. I highly recommend to anyone that is looking for a church that teaches and lives the Word of God, provides many ministry opportunities (receiving and giving) and will help prepare your family and you to stand before Jesus and hear "Well done, good and faithful servant" that you come and see what the Lord is doing at our church! read more

I have been coming to Calvary in Sterling since 1999. I moved down to Sterling from NY to go to Calvary through the Lord's leading. I never knew my Father growing up but when I came to Calvary, the man that I was rooming with became my friend and then my Father. The Lord had finally given me a Dad! I've been through a lot of trials and triumphs and my close family at Calvary, especially the leaders, have always continued to bring the pure Word of God even when it seemed too hard to do. I'm so thankful for that. Because of some the different trials I've gone through, I could have easily given up, but my Dad and the men of God there continued to encourage and reprove me and ultimately the Lord is more important to me than anything! I met my wife here at Calvary and we have 2 beautiful children which are being trained up to love Jesus with all of their hearts. Calvary teaches the Word, requires the Word to be lived (being a doer of the Word and not a hearer only-James 1:22), and has an incredible body of believers that loves the Lord and the other members like a family. There are a lot of ministries to be involved in which has increased over the past few years. I love Calvary and hope you will too! read more

The Presence of God is in this place! I could comment on a number of the great traits of Calvary Temple, like the genuine care the congregants and leadership have for you, or the accountability to the Word of God that is maintained by the leadership first, and as a result throughout the congregants. However, if you are a true Christian, or are seeking for "something", I can GUARANTEE you that from the moment you walk through the doors of the sanctuary the presence of God is apparent. If you don't believe, come and see! I've attended Calvary Temple for 20 years in the fall. One of the top reasons for my tenure is the leaderships obedience to the Word, and the presence of God that is noticeably here. Other fantastic aspects of the ministry are the multi-cultural backgrounds represented, ministry for all ages, and focus on the children's ministry that follows Psalm 78:4-7. I am very excited to be a part of this community of believers in Jesus Christ. It's a blessing to fellowship with folks who really strive to pattern themselves after the church in the book of Acts - sharing the gospel and encouraging and loving each other. My husband and I have attended Calvary Temple for many years; our daugher was brought up here and now attends with her own family. They love the Lord with all of their hearts and love others; that pretty much sums up what this ministry produces! On a personal level, the love and care shown to us has been incredible. We have friends and leaders that have walked through the fire with us, and shown us a pattern of God's love that is very humbling. If you want to go to church once a week and not have close relationships, this is probably not the place for you. But if you are looking to be challenged to know God and His Word, and to live it out, you'll love it here. I know I do! read more

God is so great! During the first 18 years of my life, my family moved around between 5 different churches. As a teenager who had a heart for God, I visited many other churches that had youth groups and bible study's throughout the week so I could fellowship with other believers and learn more about serving God. After I graduated highschool 8 years ago, the Lord ordered my steps to Calvary Temple and I was so excited to finally find a church "home" and be part of a church that has groups and activities for the youth and young adults to be actively involved in. We are encouraged to be ready for the return of Jesus, seek God in prayer, know the Word of God for ourselves, actively share the love of Christ with the lost, and not to forsake fellowship with other believers as Hebrews 10:25 exhorts us. The Lord is doing a great work in our hearts here at Calvary and I encourage you to come out see how great is our God!! read more

I attended Calvary Temple for many years so I speak from experience. Run as fast as you can from this place. Families are routinely divided if any member decides to stop attending Calvary Temple or even asks questions about their practices. If you are looking for a good church, this is not it. They use the bible but they manipulate and twist the scriptures to support their own ungodly narrative. Not a good place. Please do not go to their "free" summer camps, movie nights, or car shows. They are only for the purpose of drawing you in to their unbiblical brand of Christianity. By the way, there is NO accountability over the hundreds of thousands of dollars that have gone into Star Scott's pockets. The money funds his addiction to very expensive automobiles, motorcycles, vacation homes, and anything else he or his wife desires. Please stay away. read more

I began attending Calvary in 1980 at the age of 8 and as soon as I walked through the door, I knew I was home and after all these years, nothing has changed. The Word of God is consistently taught and more importantly consistently applied in every area of our lives. Nothing is off limits. This is a place where you are encouraged to be sold out to Jesus and give Him 100%. The men of God have equipped us as members to do the work of the ministry and to provoke one another to love and good works. They are living examples of "to live is Christ and to die is gain." I've met lifelong friends here (one of which is my husband) and now we have the privilege of raising two wonderful children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. I've been attending CT since the 1980s and am so grateful to the Lord for allowing me and my family to be a part of this church. I have many people who I can truly call friend; we have walked through difficult times and shared in many joys as we have followed Jesus together. The men in leadership are an example to me of what a Christian is. They teach what it means to have faith in God by their knowledge of the scriptures and their ability to not only help me understand the principles but to apply them to my life. They live what they teach and pattern their lives after the life of Jesus. My marriage of over 30 years has been made stronger. My wife and I have been taught how to truly love each other and how we need to put the other one first as we walk out our life together. read more

My husband and I came here because of the hypocrisy we saw in our prior church. We wanted a church that walked the talk, not taught religion, but a way bof life. What we found at Calvary was more than we expected. Not only do the people and leaders walk the talk, they require it of all of us. And the expectations from God's Word doesn't change for the leaders or teir families. No more hypocrisy - and tons of love. Here we can truly say we are loved, protected and well-cared for. The teachings are from the Word, not men's opinions or interpretations, they let the word speak for itself. I am confident this is the safest place to be to give us the best chance of being ready for the Lord's return. My husband and I have been attending Calvary Temple for over 30 years. Calvary Temple leadership not only preaches The Word, but requires it as defined in The Bible. That is very rare in this day and age. The members, who attend here, are loving, caring and looking out for each other's souls. From the nursery staff, attending to the needs of infants, to the care of it's elderly members, Calvary Temple provides it! If I could give this place no stars at all, I would. Calvary Temple is a very controlling cult. When you first attend everything is so pretty and everyone is so nice. Once you are there and become hooked, so to speak, the "leadership" becomes controlling. I attended from 1995 until December 2007...my family was destroyed by this place. Please google Calvary Temple of Sterling, VA and you will see many articles from The Washington Post, the Loudoun Times Mirror, many blogs, and hundreds of negative posts and accounts. If you value your family, if you value yourself, if you truly want a good church, and there are many around, despite what Calvary Temple states, do not go to Calvary Temple. I've been at Calvary for just over 4 years now. I was raised a Christian and my family and I were faithful church attendees. I backslid during my highshcool years and then I met some believers who went to Calvary and they invited me out. Immediately I knew there was something different about this church, they were REAL christians, not the kind of people who say they are Christians and then live contrary to the word of God. Living by the word of God is required by the leadership and they really help cultivate your relationship with the Lord by speaking the truth in love. I love Calvary and I know more about what I believe and the word of God than I ever did. I'm thankful for where God has placed me!! read more

This church is fantastic. They do the word of God--what better compliment can you give a church? The thing that caused our family to stop and really consider this church was the children's ministry. They care about the kids (it's not just a day-care, it's ministry)! I am very excited to say that after being raised here, I get to teach the kids and sow back into this wonderful ministry! (2 Timothy 2:2). I've been attending the church for over 20 years; and I can say without the people there, I would be lost. The environment is perfect for fellowship, ecouragment, and devotion to God. If you are looking for a church home and are serious about the worship of Jesus Christ, Calvary Temple is the place to be. I have been attending for the last eleven years and now I can say with the those that have preceded me the blessings of the Lord make rich and add no sorrow. It is not so much that my circumstances have changed, because they I have not. But I know now that the Lord is my helper so I have no need be afraid not of death or having to continue and this world, because nothing can separate me from the love of God. This is a frightening organization with strong cult-like overtones. The leadership and members are extremely manipulative and controlling. I attended for about 7 years. They use children and psychologically abuse them in order to purport their ideology. They have no qualms about turning family members against each other. They will not tolerate ANY questioning of Star Scott's teaching -- he is the "end all be all" (essentially God) in their eyes. They are blind to their own sins because they are too busy passing judgement on everyone else and announcing (from the pulpit) who is and isn't going to hell. I've visited many churches in different countries, and I've never felt the presence of God so strongly as I have here at Calvary Temple. My life has been transformed with the help of the Word of God, the Holy Spirit and the Pastors, Deacons, teachers, friends and family. We have prayer daily and service 3 times a week. We also have meetings on Saturdays for the Young Adults, Pastoral Care Teams, and other fun activities. I am so thankful for Calvary Temple who has been around for more than forty years, and would recommend this church to anyone looking to following Jesus with their whole heart. read more

Doers of the Word! Not only does Calvary Temple have incredibly sound doctrine based solely on the Word of God, but the leadership and members truly live the Word of God daily. They also require it of each other and provide an environment for daily prayer and fellowship. If you are looking for a church that lives out James 1:22, "But be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves," then you should visit Calvary Temple.
