We were in the area picking up something off of CraigsList and my dad wanted to pay his respects. I'm somewhat saddened to see the surrounding area is becoming more modern. This used to be in the middle of nowhere and now the cemetery is being encroached upon by town homes. However, it's still pretty peaceful among the headstones. Our favorite part about this place is the old windmill. It's been there as long as I can remember and my dad says he remembers it from before I was born.

I attended a service here on Thursday afternoon. I appreciated that the bathrooms were near the…read moreservice room and guest book table. I very much appreciated that it was a single restroom, not the room filed w stalls. The service/memorial room was big and they had separated the chairs in to w sections...so only having to walk in front of four people versus eight. A small parking lot, but I had arrived early. It's a nice touch that there are a few benches out front, under the carport so if you need to take some time outside. When I left I circled over to the other side of the room to look at pictures and exited the room through the south door...very nice that that room was used for desserts. There was a clear plastic card box w a slot on top next to the guest book. Thank you Miller Funeral Home.

They handled every detail with such care, compassion, and patience. We primarily worked with Melanie. Exceeded expectations by a mile!!! They went far and above anything we have ever experienced before in any memorial service. They really listened to us and seemed genuinely interested to know who Jeff was; then made areas in the room that reflected Jeff's interests and personality with pictures, memorabilia, and more. They had to have spent hours and hours on getting it ready! It was like a showcase of Jeff's life. He would have absolutely loved it! The quality of everything they did was top-notch. The printed programs, the guestbook, and everything was so thoughtful and well-crafted. The pictures I have included are just a small sample of what they did. The walls around the room had slideshows with pictures of Jeff's life. It was EPIC! Daniel, Corrine and the entire staff were wonderful to work with. Always pleasant, helpful and supportive. We had never planned a funeral or memorial service before and the staff here helped us every step of the way and made the process actually enjoyable. They took care of everything before, during and after the visitation, service, and luncheon so we could spend time with our approximately 70 guests. The building was spotless, comfortable, and perfect for our family and friends to get together. I really can't stop raving about this place to everyone. Absolutely a great value, worth every penny spent. They really made a day we were dreading into a wonderful memory spending time celebrating my brother's life. A+++!!!

I have racked up experience visiting a cemetery within the last 1.5 years. It continues with a…read morevisit to Maple Knoll Cemetery. Recently, I visited IRG (formerly IBM Woodlands) park in Rochester. I thought fondly about my mentor at IBM. He had passed away in 2015. It occurred to me that I had never paid my respects, as I had started returning to Minnesota for visits in 2019. A bit of research was required. When he retired from IBM, he and his wife moved from Rochester to Maple Grove. He continued to teach at the University of St. Thomas and moved closer to it. Looking up his obituary led me to this cemetery. It is roughly a 45-minute drive from Eagan to it. Most would think that such a drive on interstates is long. This drive is roughly my commute from Markham to my workplace in Mississauga, so I'm used to it. I had no problem finding this cemetery. It's tucked away on a quiet residential street. It is on a grassy knoll, with Rice Lake on one side of it. Being from Toronto, when I think of cemeteries, large ones come to mind, such as Mount Pleasant, where you need a directory and perhaps a car to get to the headstone that you want. On the contrary, Maple Knoll Cemetery is small. I found my mentor's final resting place rather quickly. He is near the American flag, which seems fitting. He was a gentle soul. He never flaunted the fact that he held many patents at IBM or that he was a professor. He was humble and quiet. He was a decent man. I was fortunate to have him as my mentor for two years and beyond after I was laid off. It was nice to visit him. The calmness of the area matched his temperament. It is a one-way entrance to this cemetery. The entrance is on the right when you are facing the cemetery. The downside is that it feels wrong to pull over onto a grassy part. Instead, I drove around and found a grassless patch of land to pull my rental car over and walk over to where he is. Of course, you could park on the street, but I didn't see any parked cars. I would assume that it's okay, but I am a tourist in a neighbourhood that is new to me. The cemetery seems nicely maintained. The grass was green, which was nice. It felt like being in that park in Rochester with him, but we moved northwest by a 1.5-hour drive to spend some time together. It was a nice visit. I am glad that I got to say goodbye, albeit several years later. Better late than not at all. (138)
