The Marché aux Fleurs et aux Oiseaux is one of the oldest markets in Paris. Located at the Place…read moreLouis-Lépine, it dates back to 1808, when Napoleon Bonaparte ruled as Emperor of France and implemented a number of upgrades to the city, including several different food markets, la Colonne Vendôme, l'Eglise de la Madeleine, and rue de Rivoli. On any given Sunday, the Marché aux Oiseaux is one of the busiest spots in the city. During my last visit, three cages passed before my eyes within five minutes, as overjoyed children tugged on their parents' arms, pointing to their newfound feathered friends. Very cool flower stalls

No lie. The place overflows with a ton of caged birds in every size and color and the tweeting and chirping is magnificent. On this day, they also sell bird seed, bird-care books, and bird cages. One guy, unclear on the concept, was even selling bunnies. WTF?? With their beautiful color patterns, feather designs, and graphic simplicity, birds are awesome to look at and this is a pretty sweet place to indulge. I can't imagine what size bribe I'd have to pay to what Customs official to sneak a French bird back into the country. Looking though, is free, and nobody seemed to care that I was there to look, not buy.

I ordered the avocado toast, the pink matcha and a slice of carrot cake. I wasn't the biggest fan of the avocado toast or maybe I've just had better. The carrot cake was the star for me. I've noticed that France is pretty big on carrot cake so I've had about a dozen cakes from different places. The matcha here was just okay. All in all the presentation was better than the food itself. It's worth going to if you're in the area but definitely not somewhere I'd frequent or crave.

Okay I'm OBSESSED with this place. I love that it's called Peonies (my favorite flower) and they…read moresell flowers! They'll have peonies in the spring/summer time. The decor in here is absolutely daring and the open space is really inviting. Most coffee shops in Paris are crammed into small dark spaces. So the large windows and bright green tile is lovely. The decor in here is absolutely adorable (see pictures) and it smells heavenly because of the flowers. I usually get a latte here which is very good and usually a little treat. They also offer mint water for free which is a nice little gesture. They switch out their bakery items regularly. I ordered a cookie with flowers on it, it was so yummy and like no other cookie I've tried. It's not overly crowded in here yet, which is also nice. So many coffee shops here have so many people so I'm glad I've found this cute little gem. If you're in the 10th check this place out!
