EH HEMMM That was me clearing my throat, by the way. The steps on the north side of the building can be a little tricky. However, the firme ramp that is 100% ADA compliant on the south side of the building has its own obstacles. I'll get to that in a little bit. My issue with the steps is that when I pull up and park my ranfla, I get too hyped for the ridiculously good looking employees and ridiculously good customer service. 60% of the time, I have a ridiculously good experience 100% of the time. However, these menacing steps come out of nowhere and occasionally I don't have the opportunity to clear my throat. I always come in trippin, but sometimes I'm actually trippin. I prefer to announce my presence as I enter the legendary Downey branch of California Credit Union with an undeniably super sexy outdoor voice. Some might consider this a bit of an unorthodox greeting. Personally, I'm quite fond of my unique entrance ritual. In my opinion, saying CCU as I take my first few steps inside sets the tone for duration of my visit. Some might also say that me describing my entrance as "saying CCU" an understatement in regards to the volume. I already typed CCU in caps. What more do you want? So anyway, it's the same thing on the south side of the building except I have more time to prep because there's this zigzag ramp. Aside from being 100% ADA compliant, I feel like on my way out, it functions as a self-reflection type walk. If you think about it, you go the 15 ft or whatever it is, over yonder. As you make your way back, you have the first opportunity for reconsidering tonight's decisions/judging yourself in advance. I see it as a physical metaphor where you have a chance to take back what you've done or spent your money on by walking back and forth. I kind of just said the same thing twice which makes my next statement particularly excellent. Personally, I take my time walking down that ramp thinking about how I'm about to go be irresponsible. I had another great experience working with Alan Shelley at California Credit Union! Alan took the initiative to let me know that I was eligible to refinance my home at a lower rate. This was greatly appreciated because I do not keep my eye on the mortgage rate market since I am terrible at financial planning. Usually have a pleasant experience here and very friendly service. There's a new(?) employee, unsure if they go by teller number and if so, 697209, that does not have the nicest personality and makes every visit an unpleasant one. She does not give a welcoming experience and does not show empathy. When my mother withdrew a good amount of money she also did not give an envelope. Usually they are quick and put it in an envelope for you without asking. She just didn't say anything and placed it on the counter for us to put in. This credit union is something else. I'm a big proponent of Credit Unions, they're suppose to work for their member. This credit union advertises car loans as low as 5.49% APR, "On Approved Credit". I fit the OAC criteria, 740+ credit score stellar payment history, $15k account balance, etc and they want to stick me with a 10.25% car loan. They're out of their mind! I will never do business with or endorse this credit union again! Bank somewhere else where they value your business. read more

People may think this bank is odd because it's not an actual building like most banks. It's not fancy, but it definitely offers an array of benefits to its members. Who wants a fancy building with bad service? Not I! They do have other branches in actual buildings. I have been a member for 20 years and wouldn't think of switching. They won't charge you outrageous fees for having pennies in your account. Each time I visit one of their branches, I receive great customer service. I was a little skeptic about switching my account to this place.. Finally decided to do so & I have no regrets.. I came in to their branch because I lost my atm card .. I walked in and was greeted with a smile and told "of course we can get you a new card".. I was surprised because at my previous bank they never had emergency atm cards to issue (and yes I have a habit of losing them :(..). Long story short... I got a new PERMANENT atm card on the spot!!! I have open an account about 2 years ago, everything was great till last year. After speaking to my tax person in regards opening a Retirement Roth account, advise to stop at my bank to open one. One Saturday I decided to do it, stop at the bank and spoke to one of the CSR and explained to her what I needed. Well, she decided to say that in order to open one, that I needed to open a CD w/ $ 1000.00 and that would link to the retirement account, so I explain that a CD and Roth acct. have nothing to do with each other. ( I knew the difference, I don't think I was an ignorant). Well, it did not happened, because she insisted for both, I left the bank. When I got home, I call their branch in San Diego because I couldn't get over it. I was transfer to a retirement professional and explained what happened (I wasn't wrong, she explained CD & Roth Ret. are two different things.) I end up closing my accounts after that, I became unhappy with their poor customer service. Please Note: Honesty, Professionalism, CRS is a big plus, to keep a customer. Have you ever had one of those days where you felt like you should have never gotten out of bed??? Well I had that day today. Started out doing some Christmas shopping and after a couple of hours I was just getting into the swing of things when I realized my wallet was gone. I quickly retraced my steps and figured out when I must have lost it. This kills me because I don't typically lose stuff like this. Needless to say I was pretty upset when I phoned the call center. I spoke with Eddie and Genevieve and they were able to calm my nerves by canceling my card and informing me I could walk into a branch and get a new card. Not a temp, a full on permanent new card! That's cool. They reminded me of the Downey branch. I had been to this one before when it first opened. I remember not being too impressed with the site itself the staff was good, but it was not very inviting. I guess that's why I just forgot about the place. I walked in today and was greeted by about 10 smiling faces playing ukulele and singing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". I know that they were just caroling and spreading cheer and the timing was purely coincidental, but that was AWESOME! I totally needed that to help remind me of whats really important. When they were done with their beautiful rendition, Carmen helped me with my new card. She was very friendly, greeted me with a smile and was able to answer a few questions i had about my new card.
