This is as a good spot in the center of Córdoba for a beer and tapas during the Uruguay vs France game. I had the Califa La Rubia and the wifey had the Califa Stout. The bartender was so nice and attentive and she shared points of interest and other craft beer locations in town. She recommended the ibérica mixta tabla and it was delicious. We recommend they offer honey or mermelada for the cheeses...

Maybe it was my broken Spanish or the fact I am hard of hearing. Heck, maybe it was the fact I came in an hour and a half before siesta. But, I must have rubbed the server the wrong way when I ordered the house IPA. The beers were good enough and a welcome reprieve from the light lagers I had been drinking in most of Spain, but the server was callous to my California craft beer sensibilities. So I subsequently ordered the morena and the stout, because I don't travel to Spain to just try one of the house beers (flights are literally a foreign concept). Any way I didn't have the Spanish to inform the server that the refrigeration was off on the morena, but he must have known right ?! Anyone that sure of themselves must have known. Any way... Another thing I learned the hard way was cañas are only offered during the weekend. So three full sized copas later I was left a bit bloated and confused. The beers were good, and either the server or myself was a little off. In the US, craft beer folks are really salt of the earth. Here in Córdoba I feel like they are a bit more saffron.

Finding craft beer in Spain can be a challenge - but, we were so thrilled to find Califa in Cordoba. The owner was friendly and his beer was tasty. The brews were heavy on the IPA - and, I'm really not a fan of IPA - but I really enjoyed the stout and wheat. If you need some relief from not great spanish beer, don't miss Califa.

I've always been a huge fan of fresh juice... but theirs was way better... most likely due to their combination of fruits. We had the one with apple, pineapple and lime. Refreshing! To date, I still think about that glass of juice! Please note that there were no English menu and the servers do not speak much English. This is a sign that they cater to locals and not a tourist trap! We had to use google camera to translate the menu while we were there. However, the translation didn't work properly so we didn't understand most of what was on the menu. LOL. 1) We had the duck pate dish. Note that this is popular dish in Spain: duck pate, marmalade sauce and bread. This was our 2nd or 3rd time having this dish and we loved it each time! 2) Sardine pate - it came with lettuce, capers and bread. While my husband liked it, I swear I will not have sardines anymore in my life. (The other time I almost puked was when I tried sardine sashimi in Japan.) The fishy taste was just way too strong for me. I ended up just devouring the duck pate dish and sipped juice and latte. It was such a simple meal but I really enjoyed the experience! We had also just gotten to Cordoba after a long ride. We used this opportunity to chillax and figure out what to do in Cordoba.
