We recently ordered takeout from Caliente and had a great experience. Our food was ready right on time, and the staff was friendly when we picked it up. Despite having some bumpy dine in experiences at Caliente's, I absolutely love their vegan pie, Velma. Part of the "gourmet" pizza options, it is arguably one of the top 3 vegan pies I have eaten in Pittsburgh. They have daily specials and Saturday's is two dollars off an X-LG gourmet pie. Perfect since Saturday is the best pizza eating day of the week. We have eaten in a handful of times at the Allison Park location and once at the Bloomfield location. Allison Park has a designated parking lot, so we tend to go there considering they are about equal distance, but the interior is on the smaller side. Unfortunately, we have never had very good service. On a couple of visits, they were busy, so a little slack is in order, but other times they were not, and service was no better. They have some decent beers on draft and in bottles/cans. They also have lots of other options. My step kids love their basket of fries, which are hand cut and plentiful. They also seem to enjoy the regular style pizza. For the pie alone I would give them close to a 5. The toppings are plentiful (vegan pepperoni yum), the crust is crispy yet chewy, and the sauce is a nice balance or heat, acid, and a tinge of sweet. They add fresh basil and plenty of melty vegan cheese that I find much cheesier than animal-based cheese. I would eat it anytime all the time. Service is more in line with a 2-3. This could very well be a management problem especially during those busy times. One server for the whole restaurant/bar is a lot to ask on those busy nights, and it leads to mistakes. This happened during our last visit getting the wrong food due what our server said was a rushing mistake. They made the mistake right, but we sat for quite a bit longer than others that came in after us for food. So overall this is a 3.5-4. I nudged it up in hopes the service will improve. read more

Heard this place has really good pizza, so decided to ordered xl pizza take home it's is so tasty and the bread crust was so crunchy. Service was good since we called in and order take out it was ready in 20 minutes, when I got there it was ready to pick up I didn't have to wait. Ambience place it has a bar and dining table around 8 or more table to sit and eat . Would definitely come here again if I'm in town. read more

I frequent the caliente locations in sharpsburg and crafton...not so much here after a not so great service pre pandemic. Decided to give things a shot here once again for endless wings. You can see from my prior reviews that it's rare that I have to post so negatively... I really can't get past the extremely negative first impression I had upon entry. A few tables in use and an empty bar. The bartender got off their phone and put a menu on the bar with no greeting. Leaned back on the bar until I reached out to say I'll order the wings. "Which flavor?" And "drink?" Were the only words I heard from them. I replied that I'd start with the water for now while I looked at the draft menu. So standoffish that I stuck with water. 3 rounds of endless wing orders later the 2 other words I heard were "you sure" when I ordered the cry to mommy (the hottest they have). Chef in back seemed super friendly and even once asked if I wanted another round of wings fired up. But Gordon Ramsay level food can't overcome the negative energy of the entire experience at the bar. I'll stick with the friendly folks in Crafton which is further from home when I go back. I will say the wings are good, but the sauces (cry to mommy especially) are so inconsistent across the locations. I recall once not being able to finish 5. This was my first visit to a Caliente! I decided to go after seeing the 'Made In PGH Pizza Passport', but decided to do my own little tour at my pace. Caliente seemed to be included on many local lists and they had a convenient location nearby, so I gave it a shot. While studying at the library I preordered a small pizza with half pepperoni and half sausage. Despite listing a roughly 45 minute wait, the pizza was ready when I arrived early, perhaps because it was a Monday around 8 and not busy. I was immediately helped and on my way after entering through the side door dedicated strictly to pickup orders. This was a smart feature since you don't have to get mixed up in line with others trying to order at the counter or grab a table like at my restaurants, plus they have coolers for last minute drink purchases. The pizza was hot and tasted great, with light airy crust. Plenty of toppings including crispy edged pepperoni. It was denser than a lot of local pizzas, but not quite as heavy as some like Pizza Hut. Pretty good overall. read more

Was looking for a place to pass the time while my daughter was in gymnastics class down the street and stopped in here for their happy hour specials. There were a good amount of tables inside along with a tiny bar area. The happy hour specials are okay, $2 off beer and a selection of snacks for $6. I decided to order the personal pan pizza with green peppers and 5 boneless wings with the caliente rub. The pizza was okay (I won't complain for $6), but the boneless wings were SO tiny, more breading than any sort of meat. The rub on them was amazing though. Would love to see a better chicken to breading ratio... Service was also just okay... only one server for the whole place, so I understand she was busy but not super friendly though she warmed up at the end. If "Grandma" made these "Grandma" pizzas, she should be under a doctor's care. Over 2.5 inches of over-reheated, plywood-like crust at each of the corners, yet the cheese in the center wasn't melted. The "white sauce" on the other reheated, plywood crust apparently died of shame on the way to my home. We said a few words over the shriveled corpse before sending it on its way to the Delivery Dumpster. In other words, this place should have caution tape around the kitchen. Huge gratitude to the manager and all the staff of this Caliente location. I placed a pickup order this evening while out with my daughter at a class. It was just before a huge storm hit. On our way over to Caliente, my husband called to let me know that our road was blocked and several powerlines were down. We would not be able to go home anytime soon. When we got to Caliente, they said, unfortunately, they weren't able to complete any orders because they had lost power. My daughter looked so sad, and the sweet manager took pity on us. The fryer oil was still hot so they made us french fries, boneless wings, and they even threw in some donut holes. I asked if I could give them some money for it and they said no. They just wanted to be good neighbors. So, do yourself and the community a favor and support the Allison Park Caliente. Damn good food. Damn good neighbors. read more

When I walked in a server named Tiana was very impolite to me as well as unprofessional. The service made my day so upsetting, she was eating food as she took my order in a way that almost made me lose my appetite altogether. After waiting almost 20 minutes, she handed me the wrong order. I usually give a tip, especially to younger workers, but I didn't plan on it this time. been going to Caliente (Allison Park) for approx 5 years....my first review of them... i usually get some combination of their pizza / wings / pepperoni rolls, cuz thats what they're known for...duh...will have to branch out at some point and try something different ambiance is what one would expect from a pub type place- tvs with sports on, and a beer theme throughout...very good draft list, with ample cans / bottles as well seating is on the smaller side, but the space seems to have been maximized for the location...and they do have outdoor seating for nicer weather this time i got their buffalo chix pizza and wings (hot, xtra crispy)...and while the wings were solid, the pizza was fantastic...crispy-on-the-outside, chewy-on-the-inside crust...3 different cheeses, ample amount of grilled chix, good hot sauce to ranch ratio , with some nice heat...definitely some of the best pizza i have had...anywhere and while usually solid, service was just ok this time....though only 3 table tops in the time i was there...family of 4, party of 2 and me, waitress definitely didn't have her A game...though she did take everyone's orders by memory (and seemingly got each order correct) read more

The food, drinks, and hospitality were top notch! This is obviously a home town spot and not only was the food incredibly delicious, the service was maybe the best we've had on this tour. The manager came out to check on how we were doing and was so sweet to our baby! Seriously, the pizza was amazing. We had 2 different styles of crust and they were both perfectly made. My boyfriend and I went to Caliente's in Allison Park because I was craving the Sicilian type pizza they serve at Acrisure Stadium. Was disappointed when I found out they don't make their pizza that way there, but instead we decided to get a large pepperoni pizza with banana peppers. We used to like Caliente's. We got to try it tonight for the first time in a few months. We were disappointed last time we went by the high prices and poor quality. This time, I'm not just disappointed, I'm mad. We ordered a medium Spaceball pizza, which is supposed to come with meatballs, mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, basil & peppers. Please review the picture. Two of the pieces have zero toppings and no sauce, lastly barely any cheese. The rest of the pizza barely had ANY toppings. I would be fine with this if it was a reasonable price, or if the taste was amazing. HOWEVER, somehow we spent $29 on this pizza. Absolutely unbelievable. If you are going to charge high prices (way higher than other pizza places in the area), at least top the pizza properly. read more

This was, by far, the worst dining experience I have ever had. I never write reviews, but this is easily an exception. First, our waitress was not very attentive at all. I only got one water refill and my cup was empty most of the time I was here. That wouldn't have been as much of an issue if I wasn't there for a whole two and a half hours waiting for my food. I ordered a calzone and a pizza, and after about 45-60 minutes I wondered where it was and our waitress said that they "lost the ticket". I understand because I work at a pizza place myself so I was somewhat leanient. Waited another 40 minutes and finally got my pizza, and 10 minutes after that I asked where my calzone was and they were apparently making it then. Waited another 30 minutes and asked again, said it would be out soon. By the time I had gotten my food the rest of my family already ate, everyone wanted to leave and we were not in a good mood so I just took it to go. Our waitress said she discounted the pizza because it took over an hour and a half to get, but it turned out she did not discount it. We noticed that she only charged for 1 of 2 of one of my family members' $3.50 beers, and she asked "is that good" in a sassy tone. Our pizza was a whole $31, and with how long we had to wait it shouldve at least been half off, but in reality $3.50 was "good". I have never had a single dining experience as bad as this one. read more

"Minimalism" is a movement in art following WWII & going through the 70's. It's also how this place doles out cheese & other toppings. Today I took home an onion & musroom pizza. I was going to call Gibsonia Search & Rescue to find the onions after I opened the box at home, but I spotted a few before calling 911. Also, if you like your pizza cheesy - this is not the place for you. The cheese on my pizza was more of a concept than an actuality. However there was no shortage of chewy crust around the edge that had none of sauce, cheese or topping, so there was no problem holding a piece without getting more than crumbs on your thumb & fingers. it's my understanding that most of the pizzas include pepperoni, so if that's your thing, this could be the place for you. I personally only have vegetable toppings, so if I'm likely paying for pepperoni I'm excluding. I'd be grateful if they made up for that by giving me some extra topping of my choosing, but there was no sign of that. They do offer some unique toppings such as Tater Tots (which I would never willfully eat under any circumstances) so there may be something different to try for those with more imagination than I have. read more

I want to be clear that this review isn't about the food. We didn't even get to eat, we walked out because of a waitress after close to an hour of non-service. Backstory. I had gone into Pennsylvania to visit family for the weekend. On the Friday night, they took me here because they said it was the best pizza. As with most places, the place was packed and there was a line. We were told that once we ordered it would take 45 minutes to an hour to get the pizza. So, since one of the people in our party was heavily pregnant, we asked about pre-ordering the pizza so it'd be ready by the time we got to the table and were abruptly told no. We also asked about getting takeout, and the waitress said she was way too busy to help us and there was no one else available, and walked away from us and refused to answer further questions saying she was too busy. The waitress was obviously overworked, tired of people complaining and she was very snippy. After conferring, we decided to stay and wait for a table which took about 20-25 minutes.No one was at the bar for us to even get drinks while we waited. Or when there was, we couldn't even catch their eye. First table we saw open was a very upright small bar table meant for two or three but five of us sat there. We intended to make the best of it. Then, we waited, waited, and waited longer.... Just for someone to come and take our drinks or even at least give us water. We flagged down the waitress about every 10 minutes or so to ask about water and she said they were too busy to help us. Every time we flagged her down, she got more irritated at us. She finally said, that from the time we sat down to when they could come to the table would be AT LEAST 30 minutes before they could take our drink order. Remember, they already told us we would have to wait 45 minutes to an hour for our pizza once we ordered. For context, there are only 14 tables in this restaurant with a very small bar. There were two to three waitresses who were bussing their own tables and staffing the bar. Anyway since the bar seats were really uncomfortable, we ended up moving to a regular table when it became empty around the 25 minute mark of sitting. Then we flagged down the same waitress and said we moved, we wanted to make sure the time didn't reset. Finally, about the 30-minute mark, the waitress came over to clean off the table that still had the plates from the previous customers--we asked whether we could order drinks and she said no--and proceeded to clean off the table. Not going to lie. We were getting frustrated at this point, we were all thirsty and hungry. My brother who was sitting next to me started pushing plates, silverware, and the pen and credit card slip from the previous customer from his side of the table to the other side of the table where the waitress was cleaning the table. Unfortunately, the pen bounced across the table. Well, at that point the waitress had it. She started screaming at us to stop throwing things at her. This was the same waitress that had been snippy to us since we walked into the restaurant. Some words were said on both sides and we ended up in getting up and walking out. Ironically, we went to another restaurant that was a little quieter, the service was phenomenal and the food was even better so it worked out for us in the end but... It's been a while since I've been in a place where someone's been so rude. I would never want to see this woman fired because we all have bad days. But I would really hesitate about going back to this place because of the experience too. For years, I worked in restaurants and bars putting myself through college. I usually managed upwards of 10 to 15 tables at any one time and I also did prep and my own bussing. If we had a problem with a customer, we were told to come to our manager and let them deal with it. The customer is not always right and there are sometimes situations beyond our control. Training is really important as is teamwork. To the owners, I don't know what happened that night, why you were so short-staffed. Did someone call in sick? Was more busy than you normally are? It was pretty obvious that the waitress was in a bad mood to start. She was obviously feeling overwhelmed and frustrated by the complaints that she was getting. But it never should have gotten to the point where she was rude with the customers. She and the other waitresses need more support on busy nights. For people considering going there during the weekends, you're going to have a long long wait for both your drinks and food. But I hear the pizzas awesome so maybe take out is the way to go. Call them. Order online. Do not go there to order takeout. If you go in person, maybe sneak in a water bottle. Hopefully this was a one-off experience though because people rave about this pizza. read more

There's been a lot of hype about Caliente and, for me, hype has normally led to disappointing results. So when my son picked it for his birthday dinner based on a google search, I wasn't expecting much. Good news: it not only lived up to the hype, it excelled on everything we ordered, and with the service. Started with fried zucchini, which nobody seems to get right... they do here. The breadsticks came, and they could've been the main course. Just perfect. (I know, they're just breadsticks, but still perfect.) My son had seasoned fries and they were good. But the pizza? We got the Brooklyn style, which is a 20" thin crust. I can think of two places better in NYC that are better, for this style of thin crust. This is a compliment, I can think of a lot of NYC places that are worse. What about Pittsburgh? There was a guy that had a great NY slice, but I'm not sure what's up with him. There are several places, that are also hyped, that aren't even close. Now, if that doesn't have you convinced, keep in mind that this isn't even in the city. It's a strip mall on Rt 8 and only a few lights from the Turnpike. Pretty impressive and a good place to eat way too much. read more

There was a table of 4 when I walked in but they were well under way. Other negatives was the pizza was lukewarm at best when it was served. Solid pizza for the price. We ordered a medium BBQ and a large pepperoni to go for dinner. We were drawn to the BBQ pizza because it's unique with pickles and pulled pork. A pretty tasty combination, but not sure that I prefer it to other BBQ slices I've had. Neither pizza was very saucy or cheesy, so they benefit from adding some of your own when you bring it home. Decided to give this place a try on friends recommendation and were glad we did. We stopped in at dinner time on a busy Friday which may have been our mistake as it was extremely busy. We got the only two top table which was next to the beer cooler and a bit cramped. This is a small place and very popular. They have a good craft beer draft list and our first beers came very quickly. Had the Parm-garlic fries as an appetizer which were fresh and tasty. Had to have a pizza and went with the traditional white. Another good choice. Crust is thick and doughy if that is what you like. You are able to create your own craft six pack to go from a good variety of craft choices. Would stop here again but try to avoid busy times if possible. read more

Good Pizza! They have won numerous awards. I like their Godzilla loaded pie. The wings are pretty good also. Especially the Buffalo Romano. It is very Loud inside so we get takeout. They have a small outdoor dining area with only a view of the parking lot. Worth a try if you like pizza. read more
