Overall, this is a really nice place. They seem to be well organized. Even with a long line, it moved very quickly. The process of filling out waivers was pretty good too. The place has a lot going on in there, including classes. There are a lot of things on site at that facility beyond just the ranges themselves. The owner and the people at the cash register were very nice. It really is a good place. The only downside I guess I would say is the rangemaster is just a little flaky. I'm a highly trained military shooter with over 50 years of experience. The rangemaster did enforce safety but he does have some quirks so just put up with it. The main entry area oriented around retail and check-in is well managed and they have some pretty nice music playing the background, old school. The rangemaster has his own taste in music blasting in the range. In fact, that music is louder than the bullets in some cases. His taste in music doesn't suit mine but beyond that I just don't think it's appropriate for the range because of its super heavy bass blast and continually, overshadowing the sound of the rounds. This shouldn't be the place where you're thinking about your "dance moves" and your clubbing/dating strategies! It's about shooting. Sure, play some music but the music shouldn't be competing with the reason we are showing up in the first place. Keep the "disco" at the disco! If You can clean that up, this would arguably be one of the best ranges around. read more

This location served us pretty well for our WWGA self defense group. Not a large range but it's has the essentials. Many of the participants didn't own firearm so it was a long process to get them registered and with rentals . I'm unaware of cost but the ammo I noted was rather expensive. We did get a safety briefing before stepping on to the range along with reference cards My daughter came with me so I was nervous but the customer service from the range attendees was top notch they observed our stance and positioning and trigger pulls and corrected us when needed and was always available for clarity I'm very appreciative given it was my daughter first time and she was very appreciative of the customer service for our group read more

Amazing time at this Amazing facility. They take Safety seriously so don't come to play around. The ladies Tracy & Helen up front are just adorable and soooo sweet but they don't play 1 bit. The service they gave was over the talk and they are VERY VERY knowledgeable about the products and services they offer at Caliber. This was my first time at Caliber. They had a nice store on site, which if found to be not excessively priced. The range itself appeared clean, and well lit. The staff seemed knowledgable and friendly. They do offer a law enforcement discount as well. The bar on site is small, but intriguing. Yes you read that right, there is a bar on the property. This place is awesome! I've driven right next to this place multiple times without realizing it was there. There is a large parking lot. Multiple shooting lanes A-D. The staff is friendly and the prices are extremely fair. $29 for 2 people (with our own gun, ear & eye protection, targets & ammo). There is a cafe, lounge area, gun shop, and range. I'm torn on my review. I really want to give 5 stars but their ammo rule really rubbed me the wrong way. The staff is friendly and welcoming - huge plus. The facility is super clean and updated. Even their restaurant is spotless. Yes they have a restaurant and yes the pizza was great. The prices are comparable to most other ranges and I have no complaints about gun and range prices. My issue is that their no steel case ammo rule is not advertised on their website. Brass ammo is expensive (usually around .45 to .50 cents per round) and their brass was especially expensive at over .60 per round. If they're going to have that rule at least have a reasonably priced alternative for people that travel a distance to come there. This is the single reason I haven't been back yet. I understand why they don't allow steel ammo. If you've got brass go ahead and give them a try. I ordered some and I'll be back there next month. read more

Came here for the first time on a rainy Saturday morning not too long after they opened and it was pretty empty. Registering was very easy, a minute or two on the computers they have available. We paid for our lanes and just like that we were in. It's $22 per hour for pistol, a little more for rifle, and you pay extra for every extra person in the lane. The place appears a lot newer than the other ranges I've been to in the area. They have pretty neat touchpads to send the targets out and bring them back in. It's nice to know exactly what distance you're sending the target to without eyeballing it (my perception is horrible). They have masking tape at each of the lanes to tape the targets. Just a note, they do require that you keep all bags and extra things on the tables in the back which was a little different, I guess there wasn't much room to set up equipment in the actual lane. They kept time and had someone watching the lanes, we stayed and paid for another hour. By the end of the two hours it had gotten pretty busy with almost all of the lanes filled. The staff was super friendly and welcoming and the space is quite large. Overall we had a really good experience, and it's a little more modern and clean looking than some of the other ranges I've been to. read more

Excellent range! Would recommend! Went shooting with my brother and father on a Saturday afternoon. This place is fairly new, relatively inconspicuous from the road, and easy to get to. Plenty of parking. When you walk in there's a large area that serves as a lobby area. We were greeted immediately with a friendly hello which was nice. I'll admit initially I was confused where to go but a quick look around I saw the range check in, which is where you should head first. To the right is a restaurant (didn't go in) and to the left is a shop with guns as well as accessories. Straight ahead is a waiting/viewing area. The waiting area has about 10 leather sofas, and tables with magazines and such. The viewing area is lined with bar stools and is double walled glass facing the range area. At the range check in you let them know what you are shooting (handguns/rifles) and if you are new you will fill out a form with your basic info and FOID Info. They give you a estimated wait time and you have a seat until they call your name. The place was pretty busy but it was only a 15 minute wait on a Saturday afternoon. I noticed they are very quick and efficient moving people in and out so that's probably why. Our name was called and we went up. You have to have eye and ear protection on prior to going in, FYI they have ear protectors to borrow if you don't have any. Someone will walk you to your number and review basic range rules/show you how to work the system. Their system is digital and touch screen and easy to use. They have bins for used targets, and a table where you can reload magazines if you need to and also for target tape which they provide. The ventilation was great which is always a plus for a range! I never looked for the club area, but I guess I'll have to check it out when I go back. When you are done, you check out with the desk and pay for whatever time you used. One thing I noticed and appreciated was that everyone who worked there was very friendly and the patrons were very careful and practiced good safety techniques. The age group varied considerably. And I noticed and appreciated the fact that there were plenty of other women there shooting unlike some ranges I've been to. As for the price, it was very affordable compared to some local ranges, especially when you consider the amenities. They offer a police discount which is a great plus as well. They provided Tuesday free range time to Veterans just recently, this was why I supported them, I shot there, I spread the word about them, AND bought merchandise there. Today I will never go there again!!! They no longer provide free range time to veterans. Now, yes they can do that, it's there Shop, but guess what, just like Walmart they are shutting down to appease others. Well, I guess they had problems with a FEW military personnel recently so what do they do??? They take on the left, Democratic Nancy Polocy and Chuck Shumer mentality and thinking of let's stop them all, let's punish all military, let's punish all because I'm mad and want to show maybe going left ideas! Well I said my peace and will not shop there anymore. That's my right just as it is there's to punish all . OMG I said above would never go there again, well stopped to today and was interested in the Holosun 407c red dot. So asked for price and was ok but way cheaper on Amazon so since I like supporting local businesses I asked if they had a Military Discount. NO they do not so will buy a little more expensive than Amazon at another local business who does offer Military discount. 5 Star Firearms in Zion a short distance from here. Update: I've been going here over the last six months now. It's just great all around. They've been making improvements rapidly recently, as they transition fully from GTR. The staff are all great. The manager is very professional. RO's are true gentlemen. The place feels high-end with the decor, bar, and food service. I can think of one thing as an improvement for the future: it looks like they may have room to expand some of there ranges to longer distances. I would rather enjoy some longer range lanes for rifle practice, especially over the winter months read more

We had such a great time. Went and did some practice shooting at Caliber Tactical for an hour, then we went to the bar/restaurant - Armory Pizzeria Grill and had food and drinks. The food was AWESOME!!! The drinks were tasty and not super expensive. It's like being in someone's home, there are couches and tvs! They are going to be adding events and so much more - go now before it gets too crowded. What a fun evening! Oh - and the people were AWESOME as well, from the person who greeted us, the range "manager" watching the lanes, the gun shop people to the bartender, chef and everyone!! Convenient location right off of the highway with state of the art ranges and ventilation. The facility is large enough to not have to wait and there's a gunshop inside with a decent selection. Prices are very fair. They also sell ammo for the same price as any wholesale store. The gun ranges have a touchscreen monitor where you plug your target distance in and press enter to send it down range and once again to retrieve it. When my son and I went we were fortunate enough to have an instructor help my son at no additional cost. They also gave me a military discount at both the range and gun shop! Beware. Big problems here, and no one at GTR will explain what's going on without serving up a big portion of BS. As a member with a paid membership, I was told, if I wanted range time, I'd have to pay for it. The charge would be over and above what my membership already cost me. I walked out. I'm not sinking more of my money into a dying business. Hearing from other GTR members, the new manager's/owner's are telling people they need time to validate if all current memberships have been paid in full, before they will honor any membership commitments. Unexceptable. Their system should be able to easily determine whose current, and whose not. Easy fix. It appears, the current management is blaming prior management for the current problems. So the problem isn't the fault of the business. The problem is falling on the member. I had heard a few weeks ago from a reliable source that GTR was not making payroll. With a extremely small crew working the store the day I walked in and walked right out, I believe this to be true. With no cash coming in, you can't pay your staff. Not believing for one moment the new managers fired the staff. I believe they quit because they weren't being paid. Yet another creditor claim against GTR. As GTR goes bankrupt, I'll end up eating the balance of my membership. There's no money for us fools who invested in this place...once the creditors get done taking every penny owed them. read more

Stopped in and fired off 200 rounds out of my AR and another 100+ in my .22 and 9MM, the staff kept my lane clear of brass and was very helpful. My AR kept jamming and it was my first time shooting this specific gun, the range officer came over, yanked the bolt group from my gun ( with my permission ) oiled it up and she shot great the rest of the time. Very nice place and I will be back! I have to admit I was slightly worried what the atmosphere would be like given it's location to Waukegan and North Chicago, but all and all it wasn't bad and everyone was respectful and safe. read more

Range was very clean and nice, no complaints here. Prices were fair, ammo was a total rip off, do not buy it here. Everything went smoothly and I didn't have any issues, except with the bald "tacticool" RSO (yes, the one carrying 4 mags on his belt). While I was shooting with my friend, I noticed him pointing at me and laughing at me with the front desk ladies. Of course it's a nice range. It's a brand new state of the art range. I've only gone once to shoot, debating if I'll go back again. The prices are little on the high side. And only a couple of dollars cheaper for members. Even though their are a few other benifits being a memeber. Dont know if that would justify becoming a member. Rental selection for guns is on the low side. Love the touch screen use of for the target system. Lose the messy spary glue, and stick to staplers. The glue gets the rack all dirty, and makes it hard to put your weapons done. The cage wasn't open when I went, which is not a big deal. Not expecting to be that amazed by it anyway. The gun shop is a nice little setup. Overall, decent place. But still on the fence if I'll go again or not. The weekend hours suck, most places are open til 6, this place closes at 5 pm on saturday(more like 4:45), and 4 pm on sundays( so probably 3:45). The best part of the range is being able to breath in it haha. Overall I know they wanted to get the place open for all the people that were waiting to get in there to shoot. I feel it almost would have been better if they would have just waited until everything was completed before they opened to the public. read more

Holy cow - this is like the Cadillac of gun clubs. It's more like a club than a gun range. They have food, store, a lounge opening for cigars and scotch and oh let us not forget a 75 yard set of target ranges where You can rent everything from a 45 cal pistol to semi automatic military rifles. Finally, a place to shoot without worrying of stupid Cook County limitations and within half an hour drive from pretty much anywhere in Lake County and northern Cook. Great setup, the place is huge, the staff, from the owners to the range officers is very nice, helpful and knowledgeable. The whole thing is quite hi tech, put yourself in the computer if this is the first time here, sign the waiver, pay and on the range you go. Didn't count the lines, but there are plenty. This family owned business will give quite a run for the money to Bass Pro for sure. The very reasonable $22 for pistol range hour of shooting is quite in line with Gat Guns and Bass Pro. Rentals are very reasonably priced if you want to try something new. Large selection of targets, all types, ranges, sizes. Very clean and inviting. read more

I have been to GTR Sporting Club 3 times recently. I am amazed at how helpful and accommodating they are. My first time there "Chick" took me on a personal tour of the state of the art facility. Everything is designed with the shooter in mind, regardless of skill level. Although I'm retired I've only been shooting for a little over a year. I felt very comfortable and welcome. They have a snack shop, relaxed seating area with large screen TV's, actual classrooms for training, locker's to store your weapons and they're even in the process of adding a member's lounge and simulator. On my second visit I used the range. Twenty two very well lit, wide lanes with automatic target movement. The range is clean, bright, and has an incredible ventilation system. My third visit was to order a new pistol. They could not do enough to understand my needs, show me firearms and let me lead the process. My wife and I even became members.
