Following my father's unexpected death on Feb. 15/22, I called the day after to notify the Herald to stop his subscription. The papers continued to be delivered. I also continued to receive notice of attempts to bill his card. When I'd call the subscription dept. to try to clear things up, I was always assured the bill had been cancelled and paper delivery would be stopped, but it never happened. I just made my 7th phone call as yesterday as I received an email saying his paper was cancelled on Mar. 14 and there was a negative balance on his account of 28.58. My understanding of "negative balance" is that that means my father is owed money, but the rep. told me that it's the other way around. He says the money owing will be cancelled, but I've heard this on each phone call I made. Empty words. I could barely understand the service rep. as English was clearly his 2nd language. I have found this to be an issue on each phone call and I suspect this is perhaps what the communication break-down hinges upon, but not sure. I am awaiting my 2nd call back from a supervisor, but I have no trust at all that there will be any resolve to this. I am trying to settle my father's affairs as his executor, will is in probate and it's extremely important not to have any outstanding monies owed. Am considering sending a 'letter to the editor' at Calgary Herald, perhaps someone in a different dept. might help, but doubt they'd post it. Frustrated beyond belief and not sure what to do at this point. read more
