This one lady was very mean with me, I'm very offended. She kept on interrogating me, i Don't know what her name is but shes the first one next to the door And she's an Asian lady. I'm leaving this review so her boss can keep an eye on her and see what she does to people. She was so unprofessional and treated me as if she had something against me just because I asked her why she had something many questions when she was clearly asking me unnecessary questions. i told her I didn't trust the machine that counts the money and she threw the money my direction and took off, this other lady had to go get her back to count the money. Before she threw the money she said "there's cameras, take your money and go". And while I was leaving she's keeping an eye on me and giving looks. Crap. I forgot to hit up the bank for some pesos for my trip to Mexico... and I was leaving the next day. There's got to be a currency exchange place SOMEWHERE in this city that's convenient, right? Correcto! There was one downtown, but I didn't feel like dealing with Friday afternoon in downtown Calgary. Thankfully, another location for Calforex is in Chinook. No lineup, no fuss. I walked up to the counter, asked for $150 worth of Mexican pesos. It cost me $151.26 and I got $1800 pesos. We went to exchange Hong Kong dollars into Canadian dollars and were told the money was not good because they don't appear in their catalogue. We were being treated like frauds! I wouldn't have imagined that the staff can be so inept in a place like Calforex, which I thought to be a reputable company. They told us to wait until next week to talk to the "manager". The following week the manager told us the same thing: money isn't good. Wow, what a great help that was! We happened to know for a fact that the money was perfectly good because it was given as a gift just a week before by a person who actually lives in Hong Kong. We ended up changing the EXACT same money at Money Mart, right behind our house! I wish I knew, I wouldn't have bothered driving to the mall twice, for nothing. The exchange rate wasn't that great at Money Mart, but at least we weren't treated like frauds. read more

This is the only place I go to for currency exchange. They always have the best rates and have several different currencies too. I am going to Southeast Asia and Australia in January and they had all the currencies I needed. It is a busy place (many tourists exchange money there before they begin their shopping it seems), but they are friendly and efficient. I also like that they have no hidden fees, as that is my biggest pet peeve. Just a heads up to those wanting to exchange back into CAD, they do not accept coins. Only dollar bills! My heart was racing as I calmly obeyed the speed limit of Macleod Trail; I'm on my way to Chinook Centre. Five more minutes and I am there. The new Degree anti-perspirant is executing its role to perfection keeping me dry as the rest of my body sweats under the pressure. I pretend to not feel the tension. "There is nothing to worry about" I tell myself, a nervous cackle lets me blow off some pressure. My heart calms back down, I'm good. In the seat next to me a $4,000 dollar collage of bills sits on the passenger side suffocated in a white envelope. I hear them calling to me. Slightly at first, but the voices get louder. Borden, King and the Queen laugh at me. "You know together we are worth more than the vessel you are transporting us in," they tease. "Shut up!" I snap and the red light lets me recollect my thoughts and I can get back to just driving. We park and the letter bag that contains the envelope hangs diagonally across my body giving me that attractive man-purse look. The beach sandals I am wearing also enhances that "he-could-be-a-tourist" style that I have been working on for a couple of years now. I slowly find myself tiptoeing across the mall to the Califorex exchange and am greeted by a friendly face. A friendly face that wants a 3.6% cut of the exchange, but a friendly face nonetheless. "Thanks, but it wouldn't give me near the adrenaline rush" I reply. Fast service, have large sums of currency available (at least in Yen), the buy price makes you lose about 3.5 - 4% of market price exchange rate and you can use your debit card to exchange currency. It's a bit pricey, but more convenient than banks. These rates might actually be better, at least they were for me. Open M-F 8:30-7:00, Sat 10-6, Sun 10-5 in the summer. Call before you go to get the exchange rate. I was pleased with my experience here. read more
