Garvie & Co in Milngavie became my 1st stop when I landed in Glasgow, after the long flight and…read moreshower and before heading off into the night I needed a proper meal. And I have to say it was love at 1st bite! Since the 1st meal, I went back quite a few times, each time service was great and friendly, Garvie just has a nice cozy feel to it. The 1st time I ordered a pint of beer and the Roast Breast of Chicken wrapped in Parma ham on top of truffle mashed potato with sautéed gem lettuce with peas and pancetta and peppercorn sauce, oh man was this dish perfection, and the truffle mashed potato was divine! Another time at the Garvie again, I ordered a flat white and carrot cake, oh sweet bliss, this was a darker carrot cake then ones I have had before and the frosting was not the cream cheese type nor a buttercream type either, it just was perfectly sweet and complemented the cake perfectly. Ever since my 1st visit I had been craving the truffle mashed potatoes and knew I had to go back one more time before I left, so my last meal at the Garvie was the Garvie & Co Club, it had chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and topped with a fried egg came with a salad and I added a side of the truffle mashed potatoes, this sandwich was perfect, loved the fried egg on it, so good, the truffle mashed potatoes were still just as good at the 1st time. If you in the area, give the Garvie a try, I bet you won't be disappointed.

I'm never really in this neck of the woods but tonight I was and it was time for dinner! My friend…read moreand I decided to pop in for dinner and I'm pleased to say, we were not disappointed. There were plenty of booths and tables. At first it looked really busy (good sign) with plenty of families tucking into their food. Walking round, we found a booth straight away. Usual style of pub grub you would expect, with many coming in 'big plate' portions as well as standard servings. With pub favourite dishes being offered at two for £8.99, it's reasonably priced. Every day, they have a different offer on too; tonight was a free starter/dessert if you otdered a big plate. Ordering is done at the bar. I ordered the chicken skewers with piri piri sauce, lemon rice and a side salad with a coke. The waitress quivkly brought over a stand with cutlery and a range of condments in full sized bottles (not a sachet in sight!). Food arrived prompty and I started tucking into my meal.. I love spucy food and it's not often I say that something is too soicy but this piri piri sauce was HOT! The chicken was delicious but the highlight was the rice. I wasn't expecting to like it much (not a massive fan of lemon in savoury foods) but the balance was just right. The salad was okay, but not that exciting and I didn't like the salad dressing much. If I'm in the area I'd definitely head back but it wouldn't be my first choice.

It was only after i had sat down and ordered the 'morning combo' of coffee and square sausage…read more(other hot beverages and roll fillings are available) that i noticed how entirely inappropriately i was dressed for this place. Wearing my new ' oh my god Margaret its a hoody', ripped jeans and grubby vintage navy jacket i casually sauntered like the prole i am into this hotbed of hegemony, i could almost smell the new dfi sofas, recently built extensions and two car driveways. My first thought was i should steal something, my second was 'wow', i actually like this place. Located in the upper floor of what appears to my laymen eyes as an old Victorian style building (white exterior walls with black wooden beams) this beautiful wee tea room offers quite a lovely place to grab a coffee and have a nosey. More of an old style tea room rather than coffee shop (read Costa; Starbucks), it offers the usual fare of breakfast and lunch snacks; sandwiches, soups, baked potatoes etc, along with some yummy looking cakes, biscuits, pies and other treats. I have to say I'm a little surprised at myself in liking this place despite it being completely not my style. I think it has more to do with the interior of the cafe rather than anting else. High wooden beamed ceilings are combined with a vast old marble fire place and wooden mantle in addition to a wonderful massive old window basking the entire cafe in as much winter sun as is possible. A definite if your into your quaint and fancy a tea, coffee, snack, cake or even just a questioning look from Margret...wear a hoody, i dare you!!

As it happens, Tea Cosy is actually the sort of solid, welcoming cafe it can often by frustratingly hard to find when all you desire is a quick bite to eat. Offering the usual tea/coffee/hot chocolate/cake fare, it also offers a reasonably substantial menu of light bites. I had an egg mayonnaise baguette here which was tasty and cheap. It's a slightly bizarre set up. The barren staircase leading to the cafe would have you believe you are heading into someone's house as opposed to a homely cafe, but somehow it adds to the appeal.
