You just can't just like Cal Poly Meats...you got to love them! If you check them out on Facebook, they are good about updates on special seasonal items....like homemade Octoberfest Brockwurst & Bratwurst. Neither did the wonderful person there knew the difference in spices, nor did I....so I got two of each at only $5/lb.. The Ribeye steak was far superior to most markets or even steakhouses. They have a full range of other products, such as: Fresh Chicken Eggs, Cheeses, Jams, Ham, Bacon, Summer Sausage & more Cal Poly produce. Their freezer is stocked with all kinds of carnivore goodies. Their best is in the fresh, none frozen sections. Prices are quite fair for local homegrown homemade items. Between this place, the AG Meat Shop, the Euro-Deli in Grover, and the various real Farmer's Markets/ or area Farms in the area, you have almost all based covered. As for friendly service, you cannot beat the amazing Cal Poly students who raise & produce all these goodies. In one way it is good that they are almost unknown & have limited hours, but in other ways, you wish that they had expanded hours after work. They are open on Thursday & Friday afternoons, and on Sat. from 10-2 PM. The turn off for the store is on a little road off Hwy. 1, just prior to the hill right before CMC prison...going North right past the main Cal Poly Campus.

a variety of food items

I did not even know this place existed until recently. Just the opening times before you go so as they are petty limited with hours. They have meat, eggs, some fruits, flowers, and other Cal Poly products. The price did not seem high or unreasonable, highly suggested if you are in the area.

The meats look pretty good, but sadly since we only resorted to sausages since we did not bring a cooler.

This last weekend, we went to take milk back (it's a specially processed $12 gallon of milk) because it went sour. It was purchased just 5 days before it went bad and the expiration date wasn't until May. Of course, we got about 3 cups out of it when it was opened once and then two days later, reopened it and it was sour & would not froth. One of the managers refused to take it back and said "well it's halfway gone." Well yeah? We used it for a recipe the day we got it AND it wasn't supposed to expire until May. It was just 5 days later that it went sour. No issues with improper temperature in fridge. It was NOT left out. No contamination issues. It's not about the money. It's about not only a health hazard but the way it was handled. No refund, no solution to the issue. The manager shrugged and sent me on my way. I will no longer shop here and suggest others don't either. So disappointed.

I can ask someone where something is located and they take you to the item rather than just say isle 7. I think the prices compare to other markets pretty closely. It is just a bit hard to find unless you have a good eye for sign and navigating traffic.

The Public Market hosts a diverse selection of eateries and merchants. Some of the restaurants have limited days/hours, so it is advisable to check before venturing to a specific eatery. The entrances are not well marked and it can be a labyrinth to navigate to the parking areas. Many times, there are not enough spaces for the current usage nor anticipated growth. Thus, parking can sometimes be a challenge. Near one parking area is the largest number of Tesla Superchargers in San Luis Obispo. There is a main dining hall to enjoy the many options available, as well as an outdoor patio with picnic tables to savor SLO's beautiful weather. The staff could be more attentive to cleaning the dining table after guests depart. The restrooms are usually very clean and attended to. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Here is what we noticed: - You order at the front door and then pay at the counter. There is a little store with gifts, etc., that you can browse while you're waiting. - There's a great amount of outdoor seating in a large spacious patio. - The breakfast menu is more limited as this is primarily a sandwich shop it appears, but we found a few items that were appealing. My wife and I split the Almost Famous Burrito and the Walk of Shame Breakfast Sandwich. Both were really good! The burrito wasn't especially huge but it was very tasty and I liked that it had been fried on the grill. The sauce on the Walk of Shame sandwich wad awesome. Bottom line: We would go back again for breakfast and would also like to try one of their lunch sandwiches sometime.

I had the breakfast burrito with bacon and added avocado. It was a little pricey but also half was good for one meal and the other half for another meal later on. They flatten the burrito, panini style, but that just gives the tortilla flavor and makes it a little easier to bite into. Fresh ingredients and almost a balanced bite each time. If there had been more sauce or the bacon spread out more, then this would be a 5 star review. Perfect when you got everything in a bite but lacking something when you didn't. Still one of the best burritos i have had recently. I highly recommend you try them out!

We had a last minute scheduling glitch and happily wound up inviting relatives for a last minute…read moreThanksgiving dinner. We decided to go with Whole Foods catering now that SLO Provisions is gone. It was a bit tricky to find the site online, but we finally struck gold. I also found a Youtube that described the dishes, and showed how they were packaged. The catering department has lots of selections and you can buy the entire Thanksgiving meal, or build one by picking the items you want. We opted for the turkey breast meal for 89.99, which comes with mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, stuffing, green beans, and cranberry sauce. We also chose Hawaiian rolls and a premade apple pie to have as desert. We got in line at the hospitality desk, and only had to wait about 10 minutes for the meal to come out. All the food was there, but there were no general directions, and only the mashed potatoes and gravy had times or instructions for reheating. We did find instructions online, The online directions were to reheat the turkey breast for 24-30 minutes at 375, but the skin looked raw, and it needed a butter basting. We decided to cook it the day ahead, and it took 1 1/2 hours at 375 to reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees, which is safe to eat. We figure it must have been frozen and the very middle would not heat as fast. I roasted it in a big pan, using forks as a rack, and added carrots, celery and a chopped onion to some chicken broth basting liquid. The green beans were nice and fresh, but only parboiled, so we boiled them, and I turned them into the green bean casserole with mushroom soup, and mushrooms, using grated parmesan and crispy onion bits to top it. We heated the mashed potatoes and gravy on the stove, adding butter to the mashed potatoes. I added a sweet potato and pineapple casserole which uses maple syrup as the sweetener and topped it with tiny marshmallows for the kids. We the turkey in the oven 15 minutes before the green bean casserole, the sweet potato casserole, stuffing, and the carrots, then added the food for 30 more minutes at 375. We checked everything for 165, took it out , then heated the roles for about 5 minutes, and put the marshmallows on top of the sweet potato casserole to brown. The result was that everything was perfectly cooked and piping hot at the same time! The turkey and mashed potatoes were great! Moist cooked turkey with great flavor from the butter and additional herbs. The transformed green beans were tasty, and the stuffing was good. The only miss was the cranberry relish, which had a weird, gooey consistency and was more like cranberry butter, then relish, but we had a can in the pantry and used that instead. All in all great value, but a lot of labor to boost the flavor!!

I decided to wait because I saw the timer on the oven said 11 minutes. Well, after about 20 minutes of waiting, Dawn came to check on them and stated that they weren't ready yet. She said it was likely because one of the larger chickens isn't cooked through. She offered to check the internal temp of one of the smaller chickens and pull it out for me if it was done. This worked out and I was able to take the chicken home for a family dinner. While preparing a casserole with the chicken my Dad kept steeling bits of the chicken because it was so good.
