Was in the area to visit mom and dad and to celebrate my daughter's 11th birthday. Long story short, I was hoping for a local small business as opposed to a big chain store or supermarket to make her cake. We found this place with only three days notice, and they came through in a big way. The lady who helped us was so friendly. My daughter told her the flavor cake and icing she wanted and then showed her a picture of Kirby, a video game character she wanted on the cake. No problem!! The cake was ready early the day of her birthday and came out exactly as she wanted it. For the size, and customization, it was also very reasonably priced. Thank you Cakes by the Sea!! read more

I ordered a cake for my wife's 70th birthday and chose Cakes by the Sea because of the reviews and the quality of their website. I attempted to call the store on a day they showed as open, but there was no answer. I used a link to send an email and a couple of days later I received an email response that stated they were closed for vacation and would not be open for a couple more weeks. In my opinion, this information should have been posted on their website so that customers are aware. I wanted to order a specialized cake for this occasion so I was happy to wait since I did not need it for some time. I went to the store and ordered the cake a couple of weeks before the pickup. The woman who assisted me was friendly and assisted me with choosing the cake and the specific decorations that would be added. Because this was a surprise I was not able to pick the cake up the day of the party and had arranged for a friend go to pick it up. When I placed the order there were a couple of specific things that I requested to be done. Many who read this will say that this may be a bit nit picky but the sea grass piping on the side of the cake was to be done in a brown icing and was done in white. They also were to add additional white chocolate sea horses, which they did. That being said, the cake was truly a hit with my wife and all those who attended the party. The chocolate cake was moist and delicious and the peanut butter butter cream was also very good. overall I was pleased with the cake with the exception of the seagrass color, which would have given the sides of the cake a little more texture visually. The 4 stars is given because the cake was not completed exactly as ordered and for a higher end cake it should have been correct. The other reason is due to the website not reflecting the lengthy closing for vacation. I have contacted the store and discussed for informational purposes the missed sea grass color and they appreciated the information. I would absolutely recommend this bakery as a place to have a cake ordered and will order from here myself again in the future. read more

This was the second place we tried samples from for our wedding and the samples were so good, we booked it right away! We ordered a tier of strawberry with cream cheese filling and a tier that was yellow with orange creamsicle icing along with chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. So first, the cake/cupcakes....everyone loved it SO much, we had maybe 1 cupcake left(because I hid it on our table! don't judge, I didn't get a lot of time to stop and eat lol). I can't express enough how good these cakes are, just try the samples seriously! And make sure you get the seashells and starfish because they taste really really good! Next, the workers. The people that work here are SO awesome and just absolutely the sweetest. I cannot thank them enough for how great they were to us and my girls. I love this place so much! read more

After a long day of sampling wedding Cale's, we stumbled into Cakes by the Sea with little enthusiasm, however upon trying the cupcake we were amazed. Even being completely full, I would not leave one crumb of these cupcakes behind, they were so good and stood out as a clear winner to be our wedding cake. We couldn't decide on a flavor, but the owner assured us doing these layers of different flavors and frostings would be no problem. She created us a beautiful and delicious cake, the whole process was so easy and competitively priced. Since our wedding we've been back several times and have never been disappointed. read more

The cake was decorated nicely. However, they spelled the birthday girl's name incorrectly despite me saying it was an unusual spelling and having the order taker spelling it back to me. We got a chocolate cake. It was good. Far from great, but far from bad. It was okay. Would I go back? No. I'll try some other places first. Nice people - just a fair product. read more

Cake was not what we agree on. And they didn't offer to give my money unless I came back into the bakery. I just wanted my friend to have a good cake and it was horrible. It was overpriced also for what I wanted. read more

We are having a wedding in SC but are from CT. Mikaela and her team were more than accommodating to provide a free cupcake tasting for us that my parents were able to pick up a few days before we arrived for Christmas. We tried about 8 flavors and each was amazing! The cake is light and fluffy, the buttercream is delicious, and each flavor was really just on point. We can't wait to have their cupcakes at our wedding! read more

She messed up my little girls cake we go there all the time and everything was so perfect but this time she didn't do it right it looked like NOTHING we asked for. She looked so happy about the cake but I just played along. When I went home I realized that the little decor was edible and that's why she was so happy. But the cake looked good it's just she missed the small details I especially asked for. I literally sat in a room with her and specifically asked for something and she got everything right except that one thing. read more

I was impressed with the cupcakes. they were very good the icing to cake ratio was about perfect a lot of times nowadays you get a cupcake and there's more icing than there is cupcake this is not the case here it's a wonderful balance of icing and cupcake. The cake in the cup cake was very good it could have stood alone without icing and still been delicious. Staff was great and friendly and I like the selection. read more

This was a MOST disappointing cake that cost almost $500! It looked ok although not exactly as ordered. I could take that. BUT I could not take the taste ... All you could taste was sugar... When the sugar crystals crunch in your mouth, it is NOT good! There was no butter cream flavor, no hazelnut flavor (filling) and a massive glob of chocolate filling in one of the tiers. Also, the topper, which I provided, was just shoved into the top without a cardboard layer so when we took it off the top tier to save for 1st anniversary it totally took off the top layer of icing. The quality of this cake was more in the $200 range and not the $500 I paid. Would NOT recommend. read more
