I contacted Chef Mel, and the communication was great, and she was responsive to all of my questions and requests for the vision we had for our wedding cake. Chef Mel provided an opportunity to try 3 flavors of cake before making a decision on the flavor profile we wanted, and after doing so, we were delighted with moving forward with a 3-tier cake with the bottom tier as chocolate cake with hazelnut and pistachio filling, middle tier as lemon cake, and top tier as vanilla cake with mango jam. Prior to the wedding day, Chef Mel communicated with our wedding planner and the expectations on the arrival time since I was unavailable to receive the wedding cake. On the wedding day, Chef Mel delivered the wedding cake, and added white roses that were left on the table by the florist, and she did an incredible job making the wedding cake stunningly beautiful with the finishing touches. As for the taste, all 170 of the guests loved the wedding cake, and we couldn't have been happier and grateful for the work that Chef Mel and her team did with providing an unforgettable experience with a decadent, delicious wedding cake. If you order in advance she can make grainless and paleo options for your desserts too... fabulous spot. I ordered a gluten- free naked cake with real flowers for my friend's baby shower and it was gorgeous and so tasty. A word to the wise: I saw a review below criticizing DCD for keeping their cupcakes in a cooler, thus making the icing hard. I believe they are required to keep items with perishable ingredients in a cooler, so it would actually be a red flag if you didn't see them in a cooler. (When you go to Publix and you see cupcakes out on the floor, realize that the icing is likely made of oil. Yet the carrot cake bars, etc., are in a cooler because they contain real cream cheese.) The best way to enjoy a DCD cupcake is to let it come to room temp before enjoying. In Florida, this takes about a minute. Great spot - you won't be disappointed!

Cruising the Safety Harbor main strip with my child and her wagon, I was surprised to come face to…read moreface with a cupcake cafe. While we entered Pick Your Poison Cupcake Cafe simply because of the "cupcake" in its name we were pleasantly surprised to find that the cafe also offers beer and wine that is meant to pair with their gourmet cupcakes. They do this so that each customer can "pick their favorite poison." The cupcakes at Pick Your Poison are made daily by bakers using a recipe that has been scrutinized many times over. So before it makes it to the cupcake case, you can be sure that someone somewhere had to really like it. The cafe also offers gluten free vanilla and chocolate cupcakes but no vegan ones (cue the sad face). Despite all the unique and interesting flavors my wife wound up ordering a plan chocolate one that was speckled in glitter that cost around three dollars. She enjoyed the taste of it thoroughly. My complaint, as an outsider looking in, was the price tag. For the same price I can go to Cupcake Cache in Tampa and get a huge gourmet cupcake (so big I have to eat it with a spoon) with unique flavor blends and stuffed with a treat. I understand the cafe charging that price for some of the creative cupcakes like bacon infused maple syrup because these versions truly require some planning and the cost of ingredients is a bit more. I understand that price tag for gluten free cupcakes as they also require a bit more experimentation. But 3 dollars for a plain chocolate one? I think the cafe might want to consider a scale for their pricing instead of one size fits all. More "regular" flavored cupcakes priced a bit lower while the higher price tag remains for the more exotic flavors.
