Looking for someplace at the last minute to have Easter dinner. Luckily they were open! Our…read moreserver, Lexus, was great! She was very attentive and friendly. My daughter and I both had the catfish nugget dinner. Our side were yams, greens and macaroni and cheese. Everything was delicious. For most of our visit, real nice jazz was playing in the background until a patron complained (really?!) and so the music got flipped to RAP. We did not appreciate that. For dessert we split the red velvet cake (our second choice because they were out of banana pudding). The cake was dry - perhaps it sat out in the open uncovered. The icing was great tho. All that being said, I will go back to try some of the more traditional creole dishes on the menu. And hopefully they'll have banana pudding.

I started eating in the car because I wanted to taste it while it was fresh. The yams were well seasoned and sweet. My baked chicken was juicy and falling off the bone. It was so savory that I almost did not have any left by the time I got to work. I also enjoyed the green beans and I like that they had potatoes; this adds to the heartiness of the meal. While the macaroni looked wonderful and I could see the seasoning, I was hoping to taste more herbs. I still ate them all, but they were bland. I only did not add my own seasoning because the rest of the meal was seasoned well enough that I did not want to overdo it.

It's not really creepy creepy. And the food is extraordinary. I ate here last weekend with friends and we pretty much ordered the menu. We love Cajun and I just wanted to know what the deal is with this place. So let me just say this. It's real. It's Cajun. It's like eating in Louisiana. Personally I don't like gumbo, but that's not because of gumbo 2 geaux. Everything else I ate I loved! Check out the pictures and I think you'll see why. Anyway, if you love Cajun food, thank God you live in Alton. It's almost like you can smell the salt water from the gulf from this place.

Since there were no clams, I went for the Catfish Basket. The Catfish Basket had multiple catfish fritters, steak fries and two hush puppies. They also provided a cup full of sliced onions and pickles. Plus, a small serving of Remoulade. I enjoyed the cajun breading on the catfish, it had a flavorful spicy kick. The steak fries were cut fat and thick and I liked the seasoning. For me, they could have been crispier. The Hush Puppies were good, but I was disappointed when I saw a box of Classic Hush Puppies being delivered by their supplier. Homemade Hush Puppies are so much more flavorful. They've been promoting, Barq's Creme Soda on FB and Creme Soda was a favorite when I was growing up, so I couldn't resit ordering one. It was cool, refreshing and brought back flashes of memories. Oh, it was also a great accompaniment beverage to my Lent dinner. Customer Service is good, because chances are you will be waited on by one of the owners. They are true hands on owners and big supporters of the Alton community.

The chicken is well seasoned. I had the Cajun Hor Honey. It was fire. It was spicy with just the right amount of spice. I also ate a good salad. The customer service is top tier. I met the owner today. It is a Black owned business. I complimented him on his staff. They are exceptional. There is plenty of parking out front. They have daily specials. Always a great experience.

Now listen... for me, the flavors didn't quite punch me in the mouth the way true Cajun food should. I wanted a little more "who made this roux and how long did they stir it?" energy. BUT -- and this matters -- everything was fresh, well-cooked, and genuinely delicious. No frozen-tasting foolishness, just good seafood done right. I just wanted the seasoning to turn the volume knob up a notch or three. The seating situation started off a little sideways, like a crawfish running from the boil, but we got it wrangled and after that the night smoothed out just fine. Let's talk sides. Baby... these sides were small for the price. And look -- St. Louis has so many great spots where you get quality and value. The county can be tricky like that: the food delivers, but the prices sometimes think they're partying on Bourbon Street during peak Mardi Gras. Now I gotta say something that stayed with me all night -- that fish tank broke my heart. Those fish looked lonely. If you're gonna have a tank, give them some friends, some sparkle, maybe toss in a bead or two -- make it FUN. Right now it's giving "sad aquarium waiting for parade season." Tonic report from the bar: whew -- that tonic was way too sweet for my taste. My gin was confused, I was confused, so I tapped out and switched to iced tea, which did me just right. One thing I truly appreciated -- the owner is very personable and stopped by our table to say hello, which always earns major points. That kind of hospitality matters and adds to the experience. And here's my loving suggestion: lean HARD into Mardi Gras season. It's a BIG deal here in the Lou, and this place is perfectly set up for it. Beads, music, specials, colors, chaos -- give us a reason to yell laissez les bons temps rouler before the appetizers even hit the table. BUT HOLD UP -- because the real star of the night was our server Brittany, and baby... she was an absolute QUEEN Warm, fun, attentive, and made the whole night feel like a party. We laughed, we relaxed, and we had a blast. Brittany is the kind of server who makes you want to come back -- and maybe order dessert even when you swore you were done. All in all, Gulf Shores brings fresh seafood, good vibes, and Cajun-adjacent comfort. Turn the seasoning up, give the fish some friends, lean into Mardi Gras, rethink the tonic -- and if Brittany's in your section? You're already winning.

I love how you don't have to mention that you would like your chicken fried extra crispy, it is just served that way. A little quaint diner looking restaurant, no frills, just simple and straight to the point. The staff is super friendly and helpful, which is great for first timers because you don't know how to navigate what's going on. So we were informed to order at the kiosk and we could take a seat at any table. Our food was brought to us by a robot. The downside, yet another place that doesn't want to serve you FREE water and charge for every additional condiment. Whyyyyyy if I'm a paying customer do I need to pay for bottled water. How are you washing dishes, etc..... Also, as an owner of an establishment, anytime a patron walks into your establishment, this is a key moment for you welcome and acknowledge your customers. How rude is it that for us to be the ONLY customers eating inside the entire restaurant your staff is friendlier than you are. I appreciate that Cathy herself was making each dish and she does know what she is doing but the customer service on her part is highly lacking, luckily her employees make-up for the short coming. The catfish and grits is a delicious well crafted dish that is incredible when eaten cold. That speaks volumes to how good the dish is. The New Friday special which comes with 3 whole wings, 6 jumbo shrimp, 1 Catfish Fillet and coleslaw is another great option to try 3 items in one dish. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the catfish was tender on the inside and fried to perfection on the outside and the shrimp were large and not over cooked. Cathy definitely has her seasoning game on lock. And last but not least we ordered the cajun pasta with chicken and shrimp, added mushrooms. I would opt out of the chicken next time because it was chicken chunks that seemed to be out of the can, so it had a fake texture. The pasta sauce was flavorful and delicious and the entree was plenty for two. The wait was not long for our food which is a plus, some items I feel are over priced.
