We wandered by yesterday and just loved the building and the fact it was a bookstore. Today we had breakfast there and I was knocked out at the food and beauty. In the middle of a shady street right off the main shopping street here. We both had scrambled eggs with bacon set on a delicious potato pancake. So, with one bite you get the whole dish! So good! Bread on the side with a wonderful dark German coffee. Service was great and friendly. So easy to see why it's busy here. Now, I'm counting the hours until it's time for a cold Rosè in the garden!!! Stuck in time? Yes, but in a very pleasant way. Food was decent to very good; lox was the highlight, egg scrambles were merely solid. The architecture of the building is quite nice, art work on the walls tasteful and service was friendly, timely and accommodating. A very pleasant overall experience, certainly not cutting edge but somehow very satisfying in a "transported back to another, more serene time" sort of way. read more

For what the place used to be and for the prices currently charged, you don't get adequate service. In the noodles "with crayfish" you could look for the few mini pieces of meat with a magnifying glass. Put together, they certainly wouldn't have made a quarter of a crayfish. And the latter are not big :-). That's not all: the latte was lukewarm because some "expert" had poured cold milk into it. Even the newly brought cup was anything but warm - let's not even talk about hot. Now everyone can make a mistake, but this establishment lacks everything except overpriced prices. The "New York Style Cheese Cake" was dry, more like a normal cheesecake and the size was more suitable for the "Miniature-Wonderland" in Hamburg than for a serious café. Going to the toilet rounded off the picture: one of the two men's toilets was locked. This saves you having to clean, but not a visit from the health department because the prescribed number of "quiet places" is not reached. In the second booth it was impossible to get the paper out of the roll holder. A number of small scraps on the floor testified to the unsuccessful attempts of desperate visitors who tried before me, who hopefully, like me, had enough tissues with them to avoid embarrassing situations. At the end, the manager came to our table and, in an extremely aggressive tone from the start, wanted to know what we had to complain about. He couldn't stand the above list, became more and more aggressive and asked us to leave, of course not without first paying his overpriced prices. He refused to give us his name to file a complaint. Overall, this cafe seems to me to be extremely poorly managed. The service and food are not even remotely worth the money they charge here. There are certainly enough good cafes on the Ku'damm. That's why I strongly advise you to avoid this store. By the way: I'm not a "troublemaker" who couldn't spend my time better than with such reviews. But if reviews make sense, it's to advise against such stores. read more

A magical garden in the middle of Charlottenburg. On a byway of Kurfürstendamm lies an amazing garden in contrast to the people-filled shopping area. The ambience of the winter garden is lovely, especially on a hot summer day where it is possible to sit outdoors. The staff is professional and kind. We shared an Apfelstrudel with a vanilla creme, which was great and I highly recommend it. With that we had a glass of rosé, which was also just perfect for the occasion. The food they have is nice, especially their cakes, our neighbors had a fruit cake which looked amazing. However their food isn't extraordinary, so don't except a culinary masterpiece. But in nice weather the ambiance outside is amazing. I wouldn't say the lack of extra quality in their food is enough to take away a star - most of all because I would recommend this to all. All in all, this is an oasis that you cannot miss. read more

Visited this place the first time 14 years ago, recommended by my German friend, and it was love at first sight. The peaceful garden tucked away so close to the busy Kurfürstendamm, magical. And the vegetarian food is excellent, especially the breakfast selections. We've had breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts here and everything is lovely, but the breakfasts enjoyed in the lush summer garden or on the veranda are special. We make sure we have several of them here whenever we're in Berlin. In fact this is one of my favourite cafes/restaurant in the world, the ambiance, the excellent food, the service, the sophisticated and intellectual vibe, what can I say but l-o-v-e. I came here with my 2 friends who are from Berlin and an 11 year old. It's a cute place but the food is very mediocre. The worst service I have ever had. We ordered breakfast and the waiter who had zero personality brought the food for 2 of us while the other friend had to wait 1.5 hrs for her breakfast. After one hour and fifteen minutes of waiting she cancelled her order. I then went to complain to the shift manager who defended the restaurant saying the food takes a long time as it states on the english menu. The waiter who was so busy came over to yell and insult me as I complained about the poor service. The bill came and not only were we charged for the food but we were overcharged for things we didn't order. Both the shift manager and the waiter continued to argue with my friends at the table and made a scene in the middle of the restaurant and behaved so rudely in front of a child without showing any respect what so ever. This was such a low class experience that I had to leave a review. I have never been abused verbally by a waiter or a manager. Worth mentioning my friend ordered Hash Browns.....which doesn't take 1.5 hrs to make. The waiter forgot to put the order in but he refused to apologize for his mistake and tried to blame my friend. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Berlin. Great atmosphere with beautiful art on the wall. I've come here so often I'm now a regular and the friendly staff give me and my husband a window seat overlooking the garden. The food is excellent. I often order Breakfast No. 5 on the menu. Their chocolate croissant is amazing. I also love the fresh carrot & ginger juice. There's so many great choices on the menu. Good food, service, and atmosphere! read more

Beautiful place. Although service is absolutely terrible. I asked the waiter to order a piece of cake and as she left looked me up and down. We then got served by a different waiter and got the same treatment. Extremely unfriendly and rude to say the least, as we are buying their food. Surprising as the place is so nice. The servers were very helpful with my allergy and carefully checked what I ordered. Our drinks were good (Berliner Weisse grun- is not too sweet) and my husband's wine was lovely. I ordered the special- sausages and potato salad. Delicious! We sat outside- and it was lovely, EXCEPT for The Wasps. If you don't like wasps, or are allergic, you might not like the outdoor tables. The wasps fly all around you. They explore your food. It's rather disconcerting- and I was glad to leave, despite the fact that the garden is lovely, and I really like this place. read more

I didn't get to spend much time in Wintergarten which was such a shame. For some reason I thought I'd arrive at Berlin's most popular eaterie bang on lunchtime. Not very clever of me. :-( But, I did get to see how pretty the gardens are. They're just of the Kurfustendamm (fogive me if that's spelt wrong), the main shopping street in Berlin. It's lovely to have a little tiny oasis away from busy streets. It's so secluded here. Wish I'd been able to stay. They do have a restaurant inside, but it was too sunny and I wanted to be out playing. I did find a perfect people watching spot to have my lunch, but not before a trip into the little bookshop to buy some presents and postcards. Great little place. If you're hear for a while, book a table, otherwise, it might be better not to try and get a table between 12 and 1. Silly me. read more

Beautiful location with tables in the garden as well as on the elevated terrace and inside. The food is average at best, but nothing to go out of your way for. Very simply presented and overpriced for what you get. We ordered a la carte, which was a big mistake, as the breakfasts all come with a varied bread basket with a croissant, which we of course didn't get and had to ask for more bread, which was only a simple white roll. Not worth the price, but very serene location and the garden is beautiful. Maybe coming for a piece of cake and a coffee and hanging out with a book is more appropriate.... read more

Literatur Haus in Fasanenstrasse 23 is a fab place to be! White and red roses flourish in the garden of the Literatur Haus. People are sitting at the tables in garden sipping wine, enjoying each other and the idyllic view. (There is a winter garden for freezing winter days too) I feel tempted to join them for a while but pay the bill just in time not to be late for one of the wonderful events of the LH itself. Its charmingly profound program varies from exhibitions to movies and from poetic readings to lectures. It is something above the ordinary entertainment. Accordingly the public is over 40, which is a pity, because the events are everything but boring. Our breakfast was perfect. We were so happy to discover a place that served breakfast until 2pm as we are quite jet lagged and woke up late. The menus were in English, our sever spoke English as well. The food and coffees were fabulous. It was pouring down rain so we sat here for two hours and the atmosphere was great. Would love to return on a sunny day to enjoy the outdoor seating. Highly recommend. read more

Nice spot for breakfast, quite classy with high celings and large framed paintings on the wall. Outdoor dining in nicer weather I understand. The calming atmosphere plus a choice of set course breakfasts with plenty of a la carte additions to choose from has kept me coming back on my various trips to Berlin. Sometimes I have an egg breakfast, sometimes just breads and coffee, and the quality has been high on each of my visits. A great location just off Kuhdamm. The place itself is tucked away in a side street and has a great garden. In summer this is just perfect to sit outside and enjoy a coffee. We went there for brunch, they offer all day breakfast. The quality of the food was good. The croissants were amazing, the omlettes were good and the healthy option (müsli) was also great. Prices are a bit higher but ok for location and quality. Solid food with good execution but nothing too special. For being great this place is lacking some more innovative dishes. read more

Nice sitting outside in the summer. Able to have good wine and also good quality non-alcoholic drinks.

The food was good but the wasps was insane! We couldn't sit outside and enjoy the food. It was also a lot of birds eating from the food.

Most of the other reviews are positive so we could assume that we went there on an unusually unlucky day, but the experience was not enjoyable. It took about an hour for our waffles to get to the table, and they were not particularly impressive. Another customer made quite a fuss about the delay and just plain abandoned his table. On this sunny morning in the garden we also shared the coldish waffles with a dozen rather enterprising wasps - for some people it is probably best to eat inside in the late summer. The place does look nice though, and the waitresses were nice despite the situation, but I would not go there again. Perhaps best for tea during a slow afternoon? read more
