The prices at Orion is very good and a bit lower than the rest of the cafés in Borås. They have good sandwiches, cookies, cakes and pastries. So it's especially good for familes with kids, students and retired people, because you don't need to shell out 15 EUR for a latte, sandwich and a cake. The interior lacks finess but still manage to works anyway. It was renovated maybe 10 years ago, before that it had this decadent interior with old antique furniture and gold framed pictures on the wall. But it reeked of smoke. Orion was the first café that became a non-smoking cafe in Borås, and shortly thereafter they renovated it into its current look, which is a undefined retro 50s style in somber beige and brown colour palette. The atmosphere is generally laid back. There might be long lines, sometimes even outside, but the staff is efficient and work through the line quickly.

We both ordered the fish, which was lightly fried with cream sauce and boiled potatoes, it was very good, super tasty! The salad bar was ok, it's located behind the counter where you order and there's some selection but it gets a bit old by the end of the afternoon, the soup was great. You order upfront and then find a table to sit while they make your order and will bring it to your table. It overlooks the lake area and boardwalk area so there are some tables with a nice view and in the summer there's lots of outdoor patio seating, which is really cozy. The family who owns the hotel are known for being cheapskates and extremely greedy, and they charge customers money for every little extra they ask for or change on the menue. No hospitality. If you want a smiile greeting you when you enter the cafe, this is NOT the place to go to. I'm surprised that the tap water is for free. Oh, and their cinamon buns are always doughy inside. Disgusting. Go to the cafes Viskan, Espresso House, Orions, Boulevard or Bakgården instead.

I go here for late lunch or early dinner before late classes at the university because it is close. Their quiche/pies are OK. But I would honestly prefer some place else to eat. It gets pretty cramped and crowded during lunchtime.
