I was pleasantly surprised when my main dish arrived, chicken stuffed with mozzarella and spinach. The presentation was lovely and the chicken was succulent and full of flavour. It was well worth the 12 pounds I paid for it. Overall, with thanks to the staff, the experience was charming.

Food - it seems like they offer quite standard British restaurant fare, but with little Turkish (I think it's Turkish) twists, so, olives where you wouldn't expect to find them. I'm a sucker for mezze, and these were really decent. I've advise you to get the hot AND cold to start things off, makes for an interesting beginning to the meal. Not loads of vegetarian option. Given that family were paying, I plumped for the Imam Bayildi (which I believe means the Imam weapt) and it's that good. Really tasty stuff. The rest of them had meat, which they thoroughly enjoyed... I suppose if you advertise yourself as a grill, you hope to grill meat well. Yeah, it's Cicilia's nothing too fancy, not a lot of pretention, and that's good. It does what it what it looks it will from the outside, you can't knock it. You can get a box packed with just salads or a mix of salads and hot dishes. However, the staff packs it for you so it's a bit hard to specify exactly how much you want of each. Everything is put together in the same box so things also get mixed together. This normally wouldn't be a big deal but I feel like the hot items should be separated from the salads. Like I don't want a lasagna on my kale salad. Everything I tried was absolutely delicious and fresh, it was just hard for me to get over the mess of having everything lumped together in one box. They have quite a few beautiful baked goods and quiches as well. Based on how the food I tried was, I would absolutely give it another try. My friend and I both ordered "biggest," which consisted of two eggs, toast, two sausages, bacon, baked beans, tomatoes, a hash brown and a free tea or coffee. it seemed a little average-sized considering it was the "Biggest" option, but it was good and filling nonetheless. The place seemed to be popular, there were even groups of police officers and road workers, a sign that it was a local favorite. The price was the best part, 5 pound including the free coffee/tea.

The exterior doesn't prepare you for what you find inside - not that much could. What you find is an intimate space, decorated in dark reds with baroque panels, rather like the sort of small 18th century opera house you might find in Prague or Salzburg. There are even little balcony "boxes" with tables accessed by vertiginous stairs (NB not good for long legged or tall people). The food is a mixture of French and modern European. There are vegetarian starters and mains, but the menu is heavy on throroughly meaty dishes, such as char-grill Lamb Steak, with crushed new potatoes, julienne vegetables and green peppercorn sauce, or chicken breast stuffed with minted minced lamb, herbal mash and Port wine sauce. I had the grilled Portobello mushroom, prepared with garlic and served with spinach and a roast pepper sauce; followed by roast aubergine strudel, stuffed with grilled asparagus and ricotta cheese, served with French beans and a tomato and basil sauce. Service was very pleasant throughout and I like the fact that they don't charge for a basket of bread. The prices vary depending on whether you book before or after 7pm; you'll save a pound on the starter and a couple of pounds on the main course if you go before. We had a very decent French vin de pays as the house wine. Pleasanter still was the bill - £55 (including service) for three people each having two courses, after 7pm. I'll definitely go back - or maybe try one of their other branches...

I know that every review mentions that price, but the last time I paid The Little Bay a visit, I was actually surprised at the relatively high price of three people dining and a bottle of wine to split. After walking for some time on nearby Brick Lane and getting hit up by every barker in front of every Indian eatery the family left the decision in my hands. Thank you, family. I marched them right back to Tas Firin. In truth, Tas Firin would've caught my eye even without the red sticker but the sticker did up my interest factor. The place is small and crowded with people and has plate glass windows on two sides, announcing itself to passers-by. Steamy smoke billows from the grill being actively worked at the core of the restaurant. Your clothes will smell (luscious) when you leave. Tas Firin has no doorfront barker trying to entice passers-by and needs none. Dinner began with a cold mezze platter (£8) of "maybe-we-should-rethink-the-rest-of-our-order" proportions. Four hungry diners seriously sated themselves with the goodness of this plate. But wait. We only thought we were full. Being a cheese whore I couldn't resist ordering up a second starter for the table. If possible, it was even more luscious than the first: Halloumi (£4.50), a traditional Cyprus cheese, served grilled and warm. Let's debate right now whether there's anything more satisfying than this combination of starters. I win. People who wish to not to have to loosen their belt a notch should stop right here. Pay, and walk out joyously satisfied. That wasn't us. We went on to have: * Spinach pide with feta cheese (£7) - Essentially a Turkish pizza, this dish was rich and salty and... who am I kidding? Way too much food. Another party at my table ordered another pide (Lamb Pide with Egg) and both of us barely made it through 2 slices apiece. You thought I'd say one, right? Excellent stuff, but maybe share with the table? * The Chicken Tava (£9) takes 30 minutes, is worth the wait, and again, could be shared amongst many. It's a bubbling hot stew made with tomatoes, onions, and green & red peppers and it's a steal for the amount of goodness it delivers. * A Mixed Kebab platter (£11.50) was the single most expensive thing ordered but it delivered like the rest of our selections. 2 chicken kebabs, 1 lamb kebab, and 1 minced, grilled lamb kebab accompanied by rice and warm, fresh pita. Simple and perfect. Two beautifully colorful salads accompanied the entrees. It was a shame that I could barely look at them let alone eat them. Same for the other accompaniment of grilled onion in a special, thin purple sauce. All of it so good but I was already beyond full. The perfect meal at the most reasonable prices (and possibly my favorite meal from my entire London vacation) was closed out with a honey-drizzled plate of 4 baklava, compliments of the house. Couldn't let those go to waste. Urp. Our waiter was extremely gracious about bagging up all of our leftovers and throwing in, without our asking, plenty more fresh pita. My son planted the bag of deliciousness at the foot of an occupied sleeping bag in the doorway of a Chelsea storefront late that evening. I'm betting this meal brightened someone else's day in addition to ours.

The lamb livers were pretty good although again lacking that 'straight from the market' texture. The chicken and lamb shish were more than edible, coming with rice and an inspiring salad of lettuce (which I like) and beetroot (that I don't). With more local competition, this restaurant would shoot down the list but dominated by curry houses, it certainly gets my 'great value' votefor now!

For £6.50 you get two grilled kebab skewers, rice, tabbouleh, hummus, baba ganoush and a few pickled bits and bobs. (If you're hungry, for £9.50 you can get three skewers) It's pretty spectacular when it arrives as well. Someone else got the lamb dish (which looked like a lamb curry) and that came with the same sides as with the kebab special. Given the nice weather, we headed "downstairs" which turned out to be a little outdoor area with a few tables to sit at. I love places that have hidden outdoor seating! I opted for the minced lamb kebab and the marinated chicken kebab. There's also a lamb kebab consisting of chunks of lamb meat. They were both incredibly tasty. There was a nice bit of spicy chilli sauce on the side as well. All the flavors on the plate were spot on. I can't complain about anything, except they do like to give you a lot of rice. When we left, there was more of a queue, and it looks like they do traditional kebabs wrapped in flat breads as well. Next time we go I might see if they can do the flat bread instead of the rice, it's way more my style. Not only did they have good food, but it was nice to meet some other people working around the building!

There's a number on each table that you have to tell the bartender when ordering. There seemed to be one bartender the time I was ordering which did take a while. The two other guest ended up ordering from someone else and was done before I even had a chance to order. I don't know if he was new or overwhelmed, but it was slow. The restaurant is pretty big, with a spacious high-ceilinged ground floor room (I'd guess with at least 50 covers) and an even larger but more intimate dining area downstairs. Seating is a mixture of tables, banquettes. The decor features lots of black shiny tiles, particularly in the bathrooms (which also have black ceilings and floors), which makes them a bit gloomy, although atmospheric... But they were spotlessly clean. We dropped by for lunch. Stopping outside at 12 noon, we saw the brunch menu posted outside, and thought it offered us a reasonable range of options. As we were being shown to our table, we asked the member of staff at the entrance whether this menu was still available, and he told us it was. I have to say he was pretty cool and offhand with us; but more of that later. When the waitress arrived, the menus she gave us were for lunch (and cocktails), which had rather fewer options for me; I'm vegetarian but the only options available to me you were in fact all vegan. I asked about the breakfast menu and she said that had ceased being served at 11:30. We pointed out that the menu was still outside, and she said she would get it sorted. She was very pleasant and amenable. In the end, I ordered the Rainbow bowl salad, at £15.95. My friend ordered the similar duck salad, at £16.95 with us. I had a sparkling water £3.25 and my friend the first of two glasses of Pinot Grigio £9.95. The food arrived reasonably quickly, and the waitress was very pleasant. Afterwards, my friend had the gooseberry crème brûlée at £8.95 (and his second glass of Pinot Grigio) and I had the breakfast tea. With a donation to the Maggie's Cancer charity, and service charge at 12.5%, the total bill for lunch came to just over £78 (so, without the wine, about £55). The food was perfectly flavourful and there was a reasonable amount of it, but it was on the pricey side for a casual lunch. But that would not have mattered were it not for the service from other members of staff. As well as our frosty door manager, I went to the main counter to ask the manager and the bar waiter where it was. They said it was on the lower floor; when I asked the way they said "down the stairs", as if that were obvious and I was an idiot. I asked where the stairs were, and they pointed them out (on the other side of the restaurant, and behind a partition, from where we'd been seated). None of this was done with anything approaching a smile, which struck me as patronising and supercilious. When we left, another couple said goodbye to the doorman; without even looking up, or smiling, he mumbled a goodbye. So really, only our waitress was pleasant, and the three gentlemen didn't make us feel welcome at all. Perhaps, given my friend and I are 60+ and 80+, we simply weren't cool enough for them?
