We had a nice seat outside that overlooked the bustling street below. We shared the Munich Weißwurst, which is a traditional white sausage made from finely ground veal and pork. The sausage is mildly seasoned with minced parsley and other spices. (Note: You remove the casing before eating and it's a little bit reminiscent of what you can use your imagination for because I won't get more explicit here.) The sausage is something that I assumed would be bland, but even without the Händlmaier's handmade mustard, it was a delicious bite. Mild, but delicious. The mustard was a surprise because it was sweet; I think it could've been best served with a hint of heat, but it was a nice experience because it was a novel one. Rischart is one of the better chains of bakeries that you'll find all over the place in Munich. If you're looking to grab a sandwich or a cheesy pretzel on the go, Rischart is the place to do it. At this particular location, there's also a great outdoor cafe on the second level where you can see Viktualienmarkt come alive while enjoying your breakfast on a sunny summer morning. They have some pretty good pastries for a chain. I bought a piece of Johanisbeer Tort and Butter Kuchen and some other things that I have no business eating, which were just elegant--not too sweet, but flavorful. There are so many choices in there that it's hard to make up one's mind. Unfortunately, they don't have decaf. ("Haben Sie Entkoffeiniert Kafe?") I also learned that the Honig Kuchen with the almonds on top that I'd been so keen to try in Germany is a Christmas treat only. Damn it. The Viktualeinmarkt is a nice location to people watch and plan your next escapade. Very nice service in the evening when not so busy. I'm still amazed at how the Germans will take their dogs everywhere, even in here. read more

I wish I could give this place a "-1" for service. We travel a lot and are usually met with kind, friendly staff. The waitress we had was literally the rudest woman I've ever encountered. When we sat down and she heard some in our party speak English, she tried to tell us they only had bottled water; then gave the table next to us tap water when they requested it. When one member of our party told her in German that they were allergic to dairy she scoffed and said "there's nothing here for you; and I don't have time to help you" and walked off when we tried to find something on the menu that would be safe for our allergic friend. We were shocked at her rudeness. In our 10 days in Germany we'd never met anyone who was rude like that. Food was so so and certainly not worth it with such rude staff. read more

Wow, I have never been treated so rudely at a restaurant in my life. The blonde woman expected me and my son to know what ice cream flavor we wanted before we even had a chance to see what they had. I tried to be quick, but my son didn't know what he wanted. The woman rolled her eyes, yelled at me in a German, and pointed to the line behind me. I yelled back. I'm not going to stand there and take abuse. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING YELLED AT BY THE RUDEST STAFF ANYWHERE. read more

I've been here before and enjoyed the view and the food, but on my last visit here the service was incredibly bad. In fact, the waitress brought us drinks but would not take our order for food. She told us to wait and then never came back. By the time we finished our drinks, she still would not come by for our order even though she brought food to all the tables around us. When we tried to pay her for the drinks she would not stop to take the money. So on the way out, we told her the money was on the table. It was the oddest experience in a cafe. My husband and I are quiet and polite people and we can't imagine what set her off. There are plenty of other places in the area to have lunch. Avoid this one. read more
