Cafe Odessa is located on Beaubien just beside Le Vieux Velo. Right now, because of the COVID restrictions, only 1 group or 3 people are allowed in the cafe at a time. There is hand sanitizer by the door. We went for a morning walk and stopped in for some lattes. We had been here before when visiting le vieux vélo for brunch. Post-pandemic tip: while you're waiting in line for brunch, grab a latte here! We each got large lattes. I had never tried a pumpkin spice latte before and they confirmed that they use real pumpkin. I'm giving Cafe Odessa a high rating because I love everything. I love that the worker was so accommodating! I wanted a London Fog, but he didn't seem to know what it was so we had a fun talk and I was able to teach him something new! Drinks: London Fog was delicious it's just earl grey tea with milk and some sweetener and the cup and the tea holder is just so cute! You can also purchase many different coffee beans at a reasonable price. Pricing: The pricing and drink list is very good price for quality and quantity. Overall: Cafe Odessa is a cafe that I will be visiting again because I'm just so pleased with everything that they provided me with. I really want to try their cappuccino next time! read more

Although this is a coffee place, I'm not a fan of coffee. So I ordered the lemonade. It was really good. It tasted really fresh and not too watery or sugary. It was probably one the best lemonade I've ever had. I was surprised by how small the cafe was. It was great, really intimate and quiet. I could see myself studying here. It is a bit out of my way so I don't think I would go quite often. But sometimes, you need to avoid the starbucks and second cups if you want to study in peace. A hip coffee shop with super cool staff! About a 10 minute walk from Beaubien metro. The shop can seat about 12 people, so it is not your huge Second Cup ... but your experience at Cafe Odessa is more personal and the music makes the ambiance unique. Good coffee, I sampled three types, having the Ethiopian be my #1, the Costa Rica my #2, and the Rwanda my #3. Ok, they take coffee VERY seriously here. Delicious, light roast, and the filter coffee is excellent. Last time I ordered a cappuccino and I was very pleased. The first time I went to Odessa I spent an hour on Wikipedia trying to see if the name had any historical significance. The only thing I learned was that it shared its title with several cities in the states and the third largest city in Ukraine. For some reason, I was hoping that it would be named after a mythological character but I guess I may of confused Odessa for Medusa. Maybe I should of just asked one of the employees where the name stemmed from but that would of taken away all my fun from Wikipedia. Needless to say, although the name means nothing in particular, the coffee is something. Enough to give me anxiety after I drink it (always a good sign -- I think). The staff is friendly and they never sneer when I ask for soy rather than milk (I have a sensitive stomach, ok?!) and they let me come in with my dog which is nice (bonus points for being dog friendly). Their only downfall is that they need better baked goods but that's just my inner fat kid talking. I can get over that because I like coming here, and it's a great place to relax at if there's a long lineup at their next door neighbour's where they serve up delicious brunch. read more

The coffee was solid, but not standout. However, my experience with the service was a bit off putting and I probably won't be back. Specifically, when I got to the front of the line the barista said that I had cut and asked me to go to the back of the line so she could serve the people behind me. The line situation is a bit confusing since people seem to wait in the ordering line while seated but I am sure the people she was referring to came in after me. I felt publicly scolded for something I didn't do and it wasn't a nice experience. read more

3+ years seems like a good time for an update, even if it's just to report that the stars have remained the same. I've come to love Odessa like family. Quiet little spot always striving for both friendly and excellent. I buy a bag of fresh beans here every week to make at home and still come in for meetings or quiet work all the time. I don't love espresso based drinks but they are excellent here, and the pour over and small fresh pots of filter coffee are just exceptional. They manage to balance all the layered uniqueness of lightly roasted craft coffee with an appreciation for the bitter buttery chocolatey comfort that draws people to coffee in the first place. They make delicious homemade chai and serve perfect pots of looseleaf tea, and earlier this year they partnered with one of the absolute best bakeries in town, Rhubarbe, to get batters which they bake fresh each morning so they can offer a small and delectable selection of hot muffins and cakes pretty much all day. Most importantly, the owners and staff are the best people and I'm so have they are the people in my neighbourhood. read more

Had the chance to discover this place through an Elite event, and went twice after that. And I'll keep going since I love coffee AND they sure know a lot about coffee and how to serve you a good one. You can get the usual espresso, latte, chai, filter... They also have hot chocolate (never tried yet though) and they sometimes have a few bites to eat (Muffins the 2 times I went there, and they were pretty tasty and felt like home made !) One of the best cappuccinos I've had recently. Fine, velvety, and smooth. The cafe is quite, great for getting work done. The interior is beach/sailor themed. The baristas are friendly. I recently purchased the Indie Coffee Passport (amaziiing opportunity for coffee lovers, plus it gives you lots to yelp about!) & I've since been on a quest to find a latte that tastes as good as those I used to drink in Portland. That is precisely what I found, first at Kitsune, & now at Cafe Odessa. The latte here has a creamy, almost velvety texture, & a flavour that's rich, yet on the subtler side, as Risa D. mentioned (definitely not "punch you in the face," indeed). The decor was evocative of a beach shed, but in a Maritimes kind of way - white wooden walls, minimalist furniture, a few colourful items on the shelves... Basically fisherman style, not Miami babe. I went on a rainy day when the place was quiet & practically empty, & it felt as though I had stepped somewhere else entirely for a few moments - somewhere like PEI, for instance. I wouldn't necessarily set up camp here for hours, due to the limited number of tables, but it'll be a lovely quick stop next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I like the neighbourhood where the cafe is. They played a whole list of Beach House songs (one of my favourite bands) which i loved. Odessa serves creamy rich cappuccino. The cafe is more suitable for working/ reading than for talking. They also have a bench outside the cafe, a nice chill spot. Will visit again. read more

Odessa is a laid-back third-wave coffee spot about an 8-minute walk from métro Beaubien. What on earth is third-wave coffee? I'm glad you asked. To the best of my understanding, it's a movement that means knowing the origins of the beans, down to the microclimate and growing conditions on the farm. It means light roasts and hand-poured filter coffee. It means there are tasting notes for coffee available like you'd find in a wine guide. Odessa also has lovely espresso and makes a mean soy latté. Snacks from local bakeries are available, including an amazing raspberry chocolatine and (sometimes) Saint Donut donuts. There's a nice sunny window to sit at, and lots of little stools. (They're more comfortable than they look.) They are participating in the Indie Coffee Passport (2014) - 26 cafés for $25 (plus taxes). read more

The Cappuccino is excellent, not too sweet or too diluted, and the pain au chocolat is a nice way to start your morning as well as complement any choice of coffee. It's a cozy albeit small cafe with capacity for about 15 customers sitting on small 1 ft x 1ft sized stool/chairs. So quite a squeeze. Coffee's not bad but overpriced to an extent ($3.50+tax&tip for a cappuccino the size of a double espresso shot.) The ambiance is warm, informal and friendly. Not a bad place to work. They don't serve meals but I guess they have a collaboration with a restaurant next door because around lunch time, people with reservations waited in this cafe and someone from next door came to announce the availability for the tables of reserved customers. So again, meh.. it's an okay experience. Nothing that will make me come back for it. Might just consider this cafe if I am in the area and need some coffee since there are no other decent looking cafes around that zone. read more

I had the chance to visit this cute little cafe on Beaubien! It's the cutest little shop. There isn't that much sitting area but it's a great place to study alone or do some reading or journalling. If you follow my reviews, you'll know I just went to Vieux Velo and got asked to chill at Odessa while I wait for my table. Great strategy on the part of these two businesses, especially since my table (which was supposed to take 30 min) only ended being a 10 minute wait. It was the first time trying their coffee (and Pilot, too) and I was pleasantly surprised at the character of it. Damn good stuff, though my date didn't think so (she wasn't a fan of the lingering aftertaste). I wouldn't go out my way to come back here but I definitely wouldn't say no to trying more Pilot. I like this place a lot. Clean. Distinct coffee. The type of place I'd go to if I had a really boring essay to write. The only thing that would stop me would be the ridiculously small stools they have as seats. It's like they think all people are 90lbs and 4 feet tall??-- Ca'maaan. read more

This cafe is awesome. Just spent a few hours there. I went in to look at beans to buy for home. They had some great coffee. Then, I got to talking to the barista. She was absolutely fabulous. Pulled a delicious shot of espresso and a great cup of drip from the V60. And to top it all off, I had a really nice conversation about coffee, food, etc. I really enjoy cafes where the people making drinks for you take care to share that passion for coffee with you.
