I could tell they were very busy but even when we called for them, they told us to wait and never came back to us. The menu does not have any English, and the staff did not really help us with that. What a great place to enjoy Lunch with a friend in downtown Lausanne. This is by far one of the…read moremost healthiest place I found so far with L'Etoile Blanche as well in Lausanne. The difference here is that you pick the food you want first, you pay and then you go eat it. No waiter or waitress here. This reminds me the old Manora for the people who lived in Lausanne located in St-François but a classier version. Atmosphere 5/5: I really like the atmosphere of the restaurant. Trendy and Urban, Philippe Gignard did a great job to create a great urban stop to pick up your lunch in of those Lunch Bag for 19 CHF or 23 CHF. The architecture of the Bar is also well done as well. Great colors and music as background. Food 4/5: Food is definitely good! Fresh and healthy, the perfect mix. The first time I've been there, I had their Plat du Jour which consisted of a Sole Filet done in a "Meunière" kind of way. It was really good and I really enjoyed. It costed 18 CHF. Some of the Salad looks good as well! But you can't go out of this place without trying one of their fresh desserts. They have different kind of Mousse (Raspberry, Vanilla, Chocolate), Cream Puffs or Baba Rhum. All done fresh! Service 3/5: Despite the fact the restaurant doesn't have any waiter or waitress, I would except fast service at the cashier and people here to advise you the different choice you have for lunch. You sometimes have to wait at the Cashier before somebody can cash you out after 2 / 3pm. This is still a place I love to go for lunch. Everything here is over average. If you're in Lausanne, make sure to stop there for some desserts.

Once a slice of bread with salmon on topping wasn't fresh and another time the cream in chocolate cake was old! So they have a big range of patisseries but apparently they keep it for too long time! However the coffee is very good and very strong and that's how I like it! The service was friendly and it's a pricey café!

If you really want to eat here, be sure to come at a non peak time or make a reservation. The decor is really cute inside and it's a warm and cozy vibe. I tried their spinach, egg and cheese crepe, which was delicious and very filling! It's crisper and saltier than other savory crepes I've had in the past, but I highly recommend. They have a ton of options and an English menu as well. I also ordered a hot chocolate based on another Yelp review's recommendation, but I didn't like it. I don't recommend ordering it because it is essentially just a package of powered hot chocolate and steamed milk. Regardless I would definitely stop in if you're in the area and be sure to call ahead in you're really inclined to eat here!

It is basically what you would expect of an American Chinese restaurant, nothing really traditionally Chinese but good all the same. The twist with this place is that they have an ENORMOUS menu spanning Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Thai food. Basically if there is some kind of asian food you are looking for they probably have it here (as long as you don't want it to be authentic). Me and a friend split the fried salted pork and beef with mushroom and bamboo shoots. Each dish you order comes with your choice of fried or white rice (making it excellent for everyone to get one dish and split, since everyone would then get their own rice as well). The food overall was great if you are expecting American style Chinese food (and I eat at alot of American style Chinese), and the price was about what you would expect from a Swiss restaurant.

Friday nights: I've come here quite often with friends and a group of children and they have always been very accommodating and welcoming. There's a seating area with couches and coffee tables for the children to relax in after the dinner is over and while the adults linger over their wine... Not too long ago, there was a football table for kids and adults alike but some bad mannered children killed the fun for all when they tried to score extra balls by stuffing the exit hole with paper. It was a sad night indeed because it seems that the cafe owners have decided not to repair the table. Weekend brunch: Be sure to call in advance to reserve a table for sat or sun brunch because Cafe des Avenues buzzes with activity during the weekends. THe brunches are popular for families. Serving american pancakes, crepes, eggs, bacon, omelets....this place is as close to home (gastronomically speaking) as I'm gonna get. Weekday: With the exception of lunchtime, the cafe is quiet and the perfect place to get some work done. I had the tartare de boeuf avec crostinis. I had the beef a bit spicy, which is exactly how I wanted it, not overpowered with spice, but just enough heat to feel each bite. both of us were happy with our choices, and hope to come back soon. I will add that the kitchen will not open up until 6:30, as with most cafe's and restaurants here in Lausanne , but you can have a few drinks and talk while you wait.
