While visiting my city, São Paulo, Brazil, I decided to take my mother and my son to eat lunch at the birth place of São Paulo, Páteo do collegio, a landmark in the city, founded in 1554.
It's advised to make reservations. There is another restaurant there so make sure they know you want to eat that Café do Páteo and not the other restaurant.
The place is beautiful and there are tables near the original construction, from 1554 I believe. The menu is very interesting and diverse. Me and my mother had a delicious and huge salad with a quiche/pie. My son had a huge ham and cheese sandwich made with the Yucca flour bread. This bread is very popular and still follows the recipe of the very first jesuits, founders of the city. To drink, my son had fresh lemonade, I had iced tea and my mother had fresh watermelon juice.
The service was very slow considering that the place was not crowded. Everybody was very friendly and the food was very good and healthy. Where we ate, there were native trees and the museum is just right there. For dessert we had a Brazilian classic, brigadeiro. It was definitely not what I expected but it was delicious.
They have restrooms for customers but make sure you let the restroom people know you are eating at the cafe otherwise you will have to pay 2 reais to use it.
It was a great experience. They also have their own chocolates, coffee and pastries. It's a great place for breakfast too. It is a little expensive but the experience is one of a kind. 100% recommended. read more
