Really excited to see they had a dark, Belgium beer (unlike the kolsch many people drink in this region) so we decided to stop by.
Sat down at a table on an early Saturday evening and chatted with the lady for ~10min and no one came to take our order. We saw that there was a line near the counter so the lady went up to place our order (who knows, maybe that's protocol here). She was scolded by our waitress that we shouldn't order at the register, so she sat back down.
5 min later, the waitress walks past our table and takes the order from the table next to ours that arrived after we sat down. 5-7 min after that, the other table received their food/drink as we were out the door just as the waitress came by with a meek, I-don't-care-that-you're-leaving, smile. Nice touch...
Germans don't think about customer service like Americans bc they don't rely on tips. I get it; I'm adapting/assimilating. However, my lady was born, raised, and also waited on tables in Cologne. She said the waitress (who had a slight resemblance to Amy Winehouse) was awful and recommended we leave. Not again, never again. read more
