Moving out a bit from top central area that I usually visit in weekends, I was really happy to find this place for a chance. And I have to admit that I wasn't disappointed at all. The location is quiet enough, and the atmosphere is a very familiar one. The couches offer you a very cosy feeling. (tip: the places on the balcony are awesome) The biggest plus of the place are the cakes. They are just great. Unfortunately I can't say the same thing about the coffee. That's one of the reasons why is only a 4 star, and not 5. Usually with a tasty cake goes a good coffee... Anyways, it has to be said that the service system they use is also a bit strange, but I won't ruin the surprise, I will let you to find out how it works. So, long story short, sometimes is usefull to leave your comfort zone, and try some new not so central places. Since my first visit here, I also returned couple of times, and I always bought a friend with me. Take your favourite book, or music, take a sit, have a cake, and enjoy the quiet rain on the huge windows ;) read more

Wo ist Tom? ist das erste Projekt der Perspektive Lebenshilfe gemeinnützige GmbH Köln. Sie wurde Ende 2012 ins Leben gerufen, um Arbeitsplätze für Menschen mit Behinderung auf dem ersten Arbeitsmarkt zu schaffen. Alleiniger Gesellschafter der gGmbH ist der gemeinnützige Verein Lebenshilfe Köln e. V. Die Lebenshilfe Köln setzt sich seit über 50 Jahren für Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung und ihre Familien ein.

History

Established in 2013.

Wer ist überhaupt Tom? Tom Mutters war der Gründer der Lebenshilfe. Als UNO-Beauftragter für "Displaced Persons" - so der Ausdruck für Zwangsarbeiter, KZ-Häftlinge und andere Menschen, die von den Nazis verschleppt worden waren - lernte der gebürtige Niederländer nach dem Krieg das Leid geistig behinderter Kinder in den Lagern und Anstalten kennen. Zusammen mit Eltern und Fachleuten gründete er 1958 in Marburg die Bundesvereinigung Lebenshilfe, um die Situation für Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung in Deutschland zu verbessern. Auch an der Gründung der Kölner Lebenshilfe war er maßgeblich beteiligt. Nach ihm haben wir unser Café benannt.

Espresso is very good, as are the panini and other Italian nibbles on offer - at a very fair price. That also helps erase memories of occasionally very slow and forgetful service... When in Cologne I usually try and cram in breakfast at Al Barretto at some point. I urge you to do the same. And bring some time.

Das Frühstück lohnt sich, da es sehr günstig ist und es eine schöne Auswahl gibt. Das große Frühsück zum Beispiel kosten nur 6,50EUR und enthält einen Kaffee nach Wahl, Saft, Ei, 3 Brötchen, Wurst und Käse. Wir hatten auch noch ein Croissant, welches nicht ganz so lecker war und etwas selbstgemacht und klein aussah. Die Marmelade ist wirklich selbst gemacht und etwas ganz besonderes. Also sehr lecker. Insgesamt gibt es glaube ich ca. 6-8 verschiedene Frühstückset, die Auswahl ist gut und wie gesagt: Preis-Leistung stimmt. Extrawünsche werden auch gerne aufgenommen. Die Atmosphäre und Bedienung ist auch nett. Ich habe ich wohl gefüh!t. Einziger Minuspunkt, neben dem Croissant, muss ich dem Service geben. Es hat relativ lange gedauert bis ich eine Karte sowohl auch mein Frühstück bekommen habe. Es war nicht so besonders viel los undich hatte das Gefühl, es lag eher daran, dass das Personal nicht besonders aufmerksam war. Ich sass aber auch im 1. Stock. Fazit: Insgesamt zum Frühstücken sehr empfehlenswert! read more

Uneingeschränktes Lob für alles Qualität und Zubereitung der Speisen und Getränke, Freundlichkeit des Services, Ambiente, Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis Ich war mehrfach zu Gast im Wo ist Tom und habe jedesmal andere Freunde/Bekannte dorthin mitgenommen. Nicht einer hatte irgend etwas auszusetzen! Wir haben uns durch die halbe Karte hindurch gearbeitet Ergebnis: köstliches, saftiges Cordon Bleu, handgemacht, nicht vorgefertigt, knusprige Bratkartoffeln, frischer Salat, wunderbares Frühstück mit herrlicher selbstgemachter Marmelade und frischen Croissants, toller Kaffee was will man mehr. Ich werde weiter die Werbetrommel rühren für dieses außergewöhnliche Café, das seinesgleichen sucht! read more

Dieses Cafe muss ich natürlich bewerten... :-) Es ist nach einem Mitbegründer der Lebenshilfe benannt (siehe Foto). Entsprechend arbeiten auch Menschen mit Behinderung. Dies sollte einen nicht stören. Sie sind alle sehr freundlich. Sehr angenehme Loft-Atmosphäre mit überwiegend jungen Gästen. Das Frühstück fällt nicht sehr üppig aus, ist allerdings für Sülzer Verhätnisse auch relativ günstig.Neben "normalen" Esstischen gibt es Sofas auf denen man es sich bequem machen kann.
