I came here one night after catching the train into Lyon. I had planned to go to nearby Chez George, but when I saw that no one was there and there were loads of locals here, I grabbed a seat. There is ample outdoor seating, as well as tables inside. It took about 15 minutes once I was seated to flag down a server. I know the typical Lyonnaise style is a much slower dining experience, which I am normally all on board for, so I'll give them a pass. I had the duck with frites dish and WOW, was it a lot of duck! Actually, this was the single largest portion of duck I can recall having anywhere in the world, and it was cooked properly, which made me happy. The frites were frites...very crispy but with no particular seasoning or flavoring to them. The side greens had a nice vinaigrette on them and provided a nice balance to the duck. It's a 3.5 for me, rounded up due to the local flavor. read more

Located in a nice street in old town. We were seated outside. It took about 30 min to get the waiter to bring us a menu. We ordered a special of the day which was Risotto with mushrooms. It was a disappointment. the rice was dry and lumpy as it was taken out of the fridge and warmed up in a microwave. The expected flavors were absent. Basic salad was OK. This place is very attractive and buzzy with its outdoor tables, but the food is very poor quality. My bnb recommended this place because it was open all day and I arrived mid afternoon hungry and jet lagged. I ordered the steak, which was one of the more expensive things on the menu and it was the thinnest, toughest piece of meat I've ever had, Bernaise sauce ice cold. Two stars is being nice... the food was just terrible. My hubby and I stumbled upon this place as we were looking for a place to lunch at. There were a lot of people here in comparison to the restaurants around it which had zero people. To start, they put us in a small corner and we had to move/push chairs and tables just to get the stroller by. I ordered a salad which was supposed to have pesto sauce and I believe that just put a dab and poured oil all over. It was the most oily salad I've ever eaten, quite gross. The lettuce leaves were bigger than my head, they should at least reduce them to half the size. The Parmesan cheese was hard like it had been sitting out uncovered for some time. My husband had the burger with goat cheese... the meat is about half the size of the bread bun and he couldn't even taste the goat cheese. If you've eaten this cheese before then you know it has a very strong taste. This burger came with fries that were soggy... I don't even think they fry them. They were really gross. Won't eat here again. And I wouldn't really recommend that anyone waste their money either. read more

Quite a good place located in the heart of the old Lyon frequented by tourists. A great selection of food and drinks. The portions of food a large enough to fill you up in a single order. Apparently, this place has quite a history to itself. It used to one of the only (maybe very few) places where you weren't allowed to smoke, and therefore it became a pretty popular place among non-smokers. With a ban on indoor smoking implemented later, they opened an outdoor venue as then started to promote smoking Funny quotes hanging up on the walls. Good food. Good location. Average to above average on cost. Great place to chill on a weekend. read more

My friend and I were looking for a late night dinner. A lot of places being closed in the area, we ended up here. The prices aren't bad, and the menu is varied which was nice. We both got different risottos. Both had under cooked rice so it was crunchy rather than creamy. The flavors and portions weren't bad. It was very busy since it was Saturday night, so we didn't even attempt to send them back. A friend told us later their specialty is burgers. There were plenty of tables with them, and buckets of mojitos, so you might have a better experience if you're going to try them. read more

This is one of the few places that is open for food on Sunday's so you have to give it credit for that. I had the cafe 203 burger with fois gras and it was pretty decent (15.50) although quite expensive. The pints are 5.30 which is on the high end. It was pretty busy with a young, hungover crowd. Big plus that you could smoke inside. read more

I had begun to lose hope in my search for the perfect hamburger in Lyon.... until one evening last week a friend and I went to 203. The hamburger was fantastic, the best I have had in Lyon!! However, the frites were greasy and limp - if 203 could make frites like they make at Entrecote, for example, there would never be a reason to go anywhere else. I do not smoke, nor do i like being next to people who do when I eat, but this is not a problem. Chacun a son gout, and there is plenty of room for smokers and non-smokers at 203! The service was very good, they had a new American serveuse who was very attentive and made us feel at home. I will go back to 203 soon for another burger... although i might pass on the frites... read more

We enjoyed the restaurant so much that we ate here for lunch two days in a row. I had the roasted chicken the first day. The part that made it special was some sort of soft cheese on top that melted with the warmth and combined wonderfully with the flavor of the meat. On the next day I had duck cooked in honey that was moist and flavorful. Another positive about this restaurant is that they have contiuous service, outside of traditional lunch and dinner hours. Bottom line--the three stars were given because of 1. Location 2. Nice outdoor tables for a fun drink. 3. Buzzy vibe with locals. Service. Not so good. Gives the French a bad name. We arrived and asked for a table. We were told we couldn't have a table unless we were having dinner. Strange since every other table was people having drinks. NO ONE was eating any food whatsoever. When we insisted, they finally agreed to allow us to have a table just for a drink. Note: for the entire time we were there, everyone was just drinking. No food. So I never understood why they initially said no to us sitting down. Although the service was bad, and they had a bad and arbitrary attitude, I have given them some stars because the location and ambiance and the "buzz" were all good. It was "the spot to be" for the younger crowd. So it was fun to hang out and enjoy the upbeat energy. And hang with the locals. I would return and just not expect a lot for service. Food: didn't try it so I can't review the food. Location: primo. And they have a great outdoor seating setup. Great for outdoor evenings. read more

Ok so here it goes - the rating is for food alone, because if I rated the service it would be lower. - Burgers - very good for European standards. I'd venture to say possibly the best burger I ever had in Europe. The burger was cooked to perfection - medium rare. The meat was ground properly (not all mushy inside) and the burger had a great texture and it tasted right. 4 (European) stars. - Cheese plate - 4.5 stars! Fantastic value for money at less than EUR 12. At least 3/4 lb of cheese on that plate. Very good. - Lasagna - 1 star. This is where it all went down hill. Although the plate was piping hot, the lasagna was stone cold. I called the waitress (which in an of itself was an accomplishment) and she agreed to replace it. The second lasagna was just as cold as the first one and only the edges were warm and edible. Thank god it costs less than EUR 11. Desserts: - Creme brulee - not bad, but the sugar was burnt more than it was supposed to be so it made the dish more bitter than I would have liked it. - Fondant au chocolat - kind of a lava cake - was on the drier side, but very rich and chocolaty. Overall both deserts deserve 3 stars. So, if you plan to go to Cafe 203, I would order anything except their gratin dishes as they are pre-made and will likely come out cold.... read more

Good service in spite of being packed on Armistice Day. I got the lamb steak. It came with frites (fries) and a salad. The lamb was severely undercooked and so took lots and lots of chomping. The fries were ok and the salad was ok. That's all, folks. I found less expensive places in Lyon that were amazing. read more

Well, we got in Lyon on Sunday and it's dead everywhere except this area. This place was packed, but we were able to get a table outside. I ordered vegetable plater and my husband got a half chicken. Mine had 6 small bowls of hummus, guacamole, dried tomato puree, and 3 olive pastes with green salad. His was chicken with french fries and green salad. Mine was okay. My husband said that chicken didn't have much taste. It was busy and the service was not that good. But it's really lively. read more
