There isn't really room inside to eat. The outdoor parklet is nice because there's a glass barrier to the street, and there are umbrellas for of it's sunny, blankets for if it's cold. The focus is sandwiched. Paninis are €7 each. There's a menu on the wall in Italian with the 5 daily choices (including a vegetarian one). Wines are cheap: €3.50-5 a glass. We tried: - Braesola with truffle cream: I love that the braesola here is not as salty as in the US - Mortadella with fava bean purée: unexpectedly good You can grab a glass of wine and walk around the market as you wait for your sandwich - no sure if it's really allowed, but no one stopped us. Also, the Mercato has free WiFi. The woman working there were very patient while we decided on our order, and she spoke English. Cash only.

We needed a place to hang out before a nearby dinner reservation and happened by Benny's wide open space with plenty of seating outside the restaurant and decided to give it a try. We loved our Apérol Spritzes (especially the barber pole straws). I guess since it was our first, naturally we compared this experience to the subsequent ones we had...but this one really was good...well mixed, generously sized and really good. Most sprites come with some kind of accompaniments during apéritivo hour, and again, Benny's topped them all with presentation and what was offered...olives...those famous little round "spritz cracker cookies" (that can't possibly be what they're really called...) peanuts and chips. We had to be careful not to fill up before dinner! They have other creative looking drinks that we'd love to try sometime if we're ever back in Modena. This was a perfect spot, right in the middle of the historic center of town to enjoy a spritz and aperitivo hour.

This one looked like the most Casual. 7 or 8 tables outside covered by an umbrella--looks like a coz neighborhood place. Very friendly service and reasonable prices. I had a flatbread pizza with prosciutto, mozzarella and rivals. I thought I was ordering a salad--but oh well. It was very good. I also had an aperol spritz and a bottle of water and the total was 20 Euros. I would def go back!

We spent about a week in Modena and went to this place about three or four times - it was THAT good and fun. I don't know why there are so few reviews and photos posted for this place - we were there in September 2017, so I hope it hasn't gone down hill since then. All I can say is that the servers are so cool and nice and the food is JUST AMAZING. We especially loved the buffala mozzarella in any form and the cured meats - OMG the prosciutto - but salamis as well (they have other menu items, but when in Rome, I mean Emilia Romagna...). They serve your food (or did when we were there) with your own little sealed container of EVOO, that YOU open fresh! It's awesome. We had lunches and dinners there and it was one of our top two places in town. It is/was definitely a local hipster hang-out (we saw no other foreigners) but the servers were just as nice to us as to the regulars and very willing to work with our very limited Italian. They also turned us on to Lambrusco - yuk you say - but wait til you try the real thing, which is from that region. They have a light red version and dark red version - both sparkling and both amazing and always about 15-20 euros - the best new find of our trip. I sincerely hope this place is not a flash in the pan - we LOVED it!

So, we stopped by Mamma Puglia's for a drink to wait it out. They had some outdoor seating under an awning. The staff were nice and the prices were reasonable. And they offered a small selection of snacks, which smelled delish but we weren't hungry at that time. If we had more time in Modena, I would go back.

Wines by the glass for €6-10 with a good selection of bubbles, whites, and reds. They also had some Italian traditional cocktails and then some more intriguing stuff like a tequila based negroni. We also ordered some olives. Everything came in really pretty dishes that reminded me of stuff used for high tea. There's a cute patio outside, and there are small tables inside. Service was patient and friendly. It has a very relaxed vibe, and you just get the sense that other patrons there are all just in a good mood. Also, I love the wall of shelves of wine scattered with some books (I dream of having something like this in my house one day). It was a super cute place for a drink before dinner.
