I've visited this store often throughout the years, mainly due to its' location, I have frequently had issues with the service, on the past two visits, I had a staff member argue with me after making a drink that I ordered to be iced, as hot, on my most recent occasion, where I visited in August 2022, it took a whole team of three baristas to work out how the Cold Brew was made, and they still forgotten to add ice, which could be down to poor training. The interior is dark and well in need of a refurb, as it hasn't changed much in years, and even the seating isn't too comfortable. I think they also need to take care, as many of the tables were blocked by a huge stack of boxes, which were just all over the place, with no sign of anybody unpacking them, not only did this block off a good 2/3 of the seating area but had the potential to be a safety hazard. My guests mentioned their beverage quality was fine, and I would agree with that, after having to explain the process of making the Cold Brew to the staff (To be fair, they seemed friendly enough and apologised, so it must be a training issue) 2* - This Starbucks has a lot of work to meet the regular chain experience and really does show the vast contrast between chain and corporate-owned Starbucks locations.

The interior was pretty modern and comfortable, they had a nice amount of seating, I do think the tables and seating area could have been cleaner; the tables were not cleaned in the hour or so I was there, and were notably dirty before I had arrived, meaning I had to wipe the table down myself. I'd totally understand if they were short-staffed, but they had multiple baristas who seemed to be standing around and not doing anything, so surely they could have tidied up? Service was a little slow, again there seemed to be staff members not doing anything when they easily could have been helping the queue move quicker or move drinks, the baristas did seem friendly enough, however. My Venti Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte came to £4.80, just under 5% extra compared to a standard corporate-owned store, they do accept Starbucks Rewards here so if you have a free drink you get more bang for your buck compared to most other stores. My drink was fine, they did put in slightly too much of the pumpkin syrup, but it wasn't too noticeable, and it was much better than having too little syrup which other stores sometimes seem to do. 3* - A-OK, not a bad Starbucks store, although cleanliness/pricing remain unsatisfactory.

The drinks here were really expensive, due to the fact this store is a franchise A gluten-free panini, which is normally £4.49 ending up costing £5.05 My Venti Iced Vanilla Latte, which is normally £3.10, ended up costing £4. A tall iced latte macchiato which is normally £2.45, ending up costing £2.90 A tall latte, normally £2.60 ended up costing £2.85 This brings the total price compared to a regular store owned store as £2.01 which is over 15% more which certainly is ridiculous as this store did nothing to warrant that higher price, the location isn't worth the location being one of many stores within a few miles in Preston, and the quality which was poorer than other stores isn't worth that either! My gluten-free panini tasted horrible, the panini bread looked like it was on some sort of brown bread, it was bland hard and disgusting, and even the filling didn't make it bearable, the whole panini tasted like a mess, I ended up spitting it out which is a real shame considering how excited I was to try it, and especially how excited I was to see Starbucks doing HOT gluten-free food, other than a wrap! My drink was average quality, although it was frustrating for my drink to be served without cream at first, the drink was average at best, and perhaps not as good as other branches in this regard. My friend also commented with similar complaints, her beverage also came without whipped cream originally which was asked for, which was quite frustrating. The overall branch is quite nice looking from the outside and inside, but can be cramped outside so can feel rather uncomfortable and not very nice rather quickly, considering this and issues with service (staff seemed nice, yet service was a little too slow and they seemed to get confused easily), and of course the higher pricing due to a franchise store and other factors mentioned in this review, I sadly feel this is a very poor Starbucks store and deserves a single one-star rating.

They have recently allowed people to sit in with their beverage, however, I think the sitting in area is very small, it seemed cramped and impossible to social distance. Like most Costa stores I've visited, staff didn't appear to be cleaning or sanitising tables or encouraging people to sign up on the NHS Contact Tracing scheme. The tables were again so close together, I couldn't help but be bothered and irritated by rude, obnoxious people within touching distance who made me just want to get the hell out of there. They did seem really understaffed on both visits too, they seemed to only have one staff member taking orders, payment, getting food and making drinks. I felt sorry for him, he was doing far too much and the wait time was pretty long even for a basic beverage. Most recently I tried an Iced Chai Latte, I am a fan of Chai having the best freshest Chai at Dishoom in Manchester and London Kings Cross locations, but here it seemed to have a funny taste. The one saving grace was the price. It is much cheaper now they have passed on the VAT reduction to customers, this is one of the few Costa stores I've found to actually do that. No mobile order and pay which is frustrating, even more so as you have to deal with the queue. The other drink I ordered on a previous visit was a Honeycomb ColdBrew, this wasn't mixed properly but I just found it to be too sweet and the Honeycomb seemed to overpower the coffee taste into a sickly, awful mess which was a real shame. The seating area inside is nicely laid out with some cosy and comfy seating. I've only sat in for coffee once here as I usually grab a take out, but it's always clean and there are plenty of tables. It can get quite busy in the pre-9am rush and also at lunch time with shoppers popping in for some lunch, but the staff are always great here and keep the queue moving quickly so you won't be kept waiting for long!

They serve coffee (decent) and a range of breakfast and lunch options. I had a cheese and ham toasty with chips and a cappuccino and my mum got a tuna sandwich with the same beverage. Food was good in quality and tasted nice, also arrived very quickly, however it was £14 for that lot so definitely on the expensive side for a town centre cafe. Overall - a good location for a quick lunch, but not if you're looking for a nice relaxing cuppa with a good view. I guess it does what it says on the tin - a good solid safe in the town centre.
