Very disappointed! We made an order and then waited for 45 minutes for another waiter to come and ask what we have ordered! Then we had to wait for another 15 minutes for part of our order to arrive, and then another 10 for sandwiches. This place is a must if you're in Padua. It is the oldest cafe in Padua, dating from the 1800s. I've been here a few times but have not actually eaten here. The only thing I've had is the famous Caffé (coffee) Pedrocchi which is coffee in a medium size cup with mint flavoured cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder. The precise recipe is a secret. When they serve you they give you no teaspoon, because they say you must not stir it. Very different. When you have your coffee, you can linger here just like any other cafe in Italy. If you come in from the entrance and stay outside, make sure you walk in the cafe to the back and then into the dining rooms. They are spectacular! This is a great place for a special event and is set up to impress. As mentioned, I can't comment on the food because I've only had the coffee here and maybe an aperitivo once. It's the oldest cafe in the area from the 18th century. Their specialty is a coffee with a thick creamy mint topping that they give you instructions on how to drink. Apparently, the appropriate way to drink your coffee is by sipping it through the mint mixture. Do NOT stir it in. The experience that they want you to have while drinking will be lost. I only stopped in here briefly for a quick espresso, but I was surprised by the best espresso I have had in Italy. I saw these girls order a coffee with a peculiar green topping. YOU NEED TO ORDER THIS DRINK. There is a reason why it is so popular. It is essentially espresso with mint foam and a hint of cocoa. This building is a historical landmark of Padua, established in 1826 as a coffee roasting plant, right on the town hall square known today as piazza garibaldi. Best customer service since day one. Customers allowed to sit and read, because of course this is one of Italy's "university paradise". It was known as the most beautiful cafe on earth. To me it actually remains this way. Our waiter Lucca was extremely accommodating. Please know there is table section for service and a section for self service. So goes the local saying: "Padova, the city of the three withouts: A café without doors, a valley without grass, a saint without name". Caffe' Pedrocchi is precisely the café we are talking about, so quintessential it is to the local flavor. In fact, so I've heard, back in the day the Pedrocchi used to have no doors at all (the "valley" would be Prato della Valle, the largest square in Europe that come to think of does indeed have greenery, and the said saint would be sant' Antonio da Padova whom locals insist to call just "el Santo", like there is no other saint they could be referring to). There has been a long standing superstition surrounding Caffe' Pedrocchi that states no student from the University of Padova should ever go through it's entrance: he or she might never graduate. Thankfully I'm not a student, what allows me to enjoy what I consider the best caffe all orzo in town without any worries. Beautiful ambiance that doesn't seem to have changed much since it was opened in the early 1800's, service can be a hit or miss depending on the waiter on shift... do not miss Pedrocchi or you might as well have never been to Padova. read more

Pedrocchi is one of the most important caffé in Italy. It's in Padova's center, or it's Padova centre. Unlukely it's a little bit filmsy.
