Got a latte and a piece of mixed berry bread and lemon and poppy seed bread. Toasted with a bit of margarine these were both nice, one sweet and the other a bit tart or citrusy. The coffee was not bad at all. Would happily go back for more one day and just looking at other customers meals the breakfast dosent look bad either.

Deviating from the standard fare on the other hand, I wouldn't recommend. I ordered grilled fish and was alarmed to be asked whether I wanted it with onion and tomato. Um...what!? I declined, opting for lemon and salt. What I got was what appeared to be steamed fish. No seasoning, with a slice of lemon. It was pretty awful. The fish cake thing was better as it was battered. The burgers came out sloppy and both friends that ordered them tried to get half way through before giving up and declaring it too gross to finish. The potato cakes were tasty, crispy and oily in a way that you want fried potato to be. So if you are in town and looking for some beach side eats, stick with the artery clogging classics.

With limited options in Batemans Bay, you could do a lot worse than to end up at The Starfish Deli…read more The location undeniably can't be beat, the service is sweet and efficient, and you won't be short on meal options, even if you're dealing with a food allergy/aversion. The food was... fine. I think we would have done much better by sticking to seafood (the rock oysters and shared fish platter looked stunning) instead of venturing into some more gourmet choices further down the menu. The wood-fired margarita pizza was more thick cheese-bready than light, fluffy and blackened-blistered, so I'd avoid pizza completely and instead go for something like the anitpasto platter, which was well stocked and delicious. While The Starfish might not satisfy your epicurean longings, it'll certainly fill you up in that "cheap 'n' cheerful" way that is sure tough not to like.

I ended up going up to the drinks area to ask for menus. When we finally got the attention of a waiter, they were attentive, remembering the fish allergy in our group, but the food was slow to come. Make sure you check the chilli level of your dish before you order (even if the menu doesn't say it's spicy!). 3 of our 4 dishes were overly spicy to be listed as mild.

We loved the rocket, pear and parmesan salad but the chicken pesto fettucine I ordered was almost inedible. The fettucine had been really overcooked to the point that it was almost impossible to eat with a fork because it kept breaking up. Apart from that the service from the young wait staff was really friendly and helpful, the prices were reasonable and BYO for $2 per head is a plus!
